Obviously Powell doesn`t rate him, but if we incur injuries to ANY of our props, we have no cover whatsoever with Doro at Widnes until the end of the season.

Or is this move because we have signed a prop for this season, and an announcement will be imminent?

It is a good move for all.

Given our prop situation, Powell must have come home training and found Butler sat in his favourite chair and eating his private stash of jaffa cakes while Mrs Powell sat starkers massaging his tootsies.

Two props shipped out having been given minimal game time and we can look forward to Jack Hughes cameos for the rest of the season.

He must offer more than Philbin on his current form

Do we support Powell or not? If he's the right coach for us, then we must assume he thinks that Hughes, J Clark, Davis offer more as "middles" than Butler. He sees them training day in, day out. He sees (and analyses better than any fan can) what the overall contributions of those players are.

We need a metre gainer at Wakefield.

Yep. You do not have to know too much about the game to asses a prop. After about 3 runs I decided he really needed a lot more umph.
I cannot seriously believe that anyone, who watches the game, should say it's a mistake to let him go.

Given our prop situation, it's a damning indictment of Butler's commitment to training.

We don't know the inside info but to ship him out shows that Powell had absolutely no faith in him.

I'm afraid so and I am not surprised (though I know nothing about his training). Hope Butler he proves me totally wrong.

We can do little more than trust Powell and judge the 2023 season.

What a shame. I had high hopes for a "big bopper"

Hard to judge Butler from his stay at Wire

He came to Warrington, as a young prop having played for England Knights at London.

However he arrived completely out-of-shape, having missed a full season owing to CoVid restrictions in the London fixtures.

Played only a handful of 1st team games for us, but has played OK for our reserves this season, since the reserve games have been reinstated.

Being released could be the kick up the derriere that he needed to sort his future out.

Of course, I forgot he is injured though in my defence he's so anonymous a player and captain I scarrcely notice he's playing anyway.

He might not be the best, BUT..... if we get injuries/suspensions in the prop area, then we're goosed.

2 successive coaches never gave Rob Butler a chance which suggests to me either he wasn't up to scratch or he didn't make a good impression off the field.

Never heard of Rob Bulter though he coule be great.
