| Anyone else concerned about the performance of our next coach and his current team?
Since beating us on the 5th June they have lost 6 games on the bounce and including the CCF. Now I know they have less resources than Warrington but this is one of the worst sets of recent results in the SL. They also seem to have a lot of problems with Covid and injuries, I don’t know whether this is just bad luck or poor management.
Daryl Powell is moving to a much bigger outfit, he will have a bigger player roster some on big money and egos to manage, he will need to manage upwards and downwards, with bigger expectations and scrutiny. He has demonstrated in the past that he can develop players, hopefully he can develop the club.
If I was Mr Fitzpatrick I would be a bit worried. As am I. anyone else?

| Not worried in the slightest. Cas & Powell are simply coming to a natural end. I don't think they are underperforming as such, just obviously struggling for motivation, now their only realistic trophy chance has gone. If anything, I'd hope they finish him early & give him chance to recharge before taking up his job with us.
Powell always comes across as a determined character. I'd hope Cas's drop in form is simply giving him the hunger to succeed in his new job, at a club where he will have far more resources, which he obviously lacks at Wheldon Road.

| I think you need to look at Tony Smith at Hull KR, his last couple of years at Warrington weren’t up to standard, but he went away, moved to a new club and is having success. Powell is a good manager, I wouldn’t be too concerned that his last season is going down the pan.
Smith & Powell have achieved a lot over a period of time. I’d be more concerned if we were bringing in Watson for next year, he hasn’t got that consistent achievement in the bank yet to suggest a drop in form is temporary.

We will be fine. He clearly heavily involved in our recruitment for next year and I’m liking the way it’s developing. The time to judge is not now.

I’d tend to agree with your Watson comment after giving him a chance to shine next season. In the seasons he worked at Salford after replacing Tim Sheens ( A top coach in his day) is record was phenomenal. Each season he would start with a complete new bunch of players and by this time of the year they would of clicked proven by reaching a grand final and challenge cup final on probably the worse budget in Super League. At Huddersfield working with players with probably bigger egos it’s took this disruptive season to sort out who he feels can do a job and want to play for him and Huddersfield. I will eat humble pie though if Huddersfield are not a lot better next year.

| Its pleasing to see the sale of rose tinted spectacles have sold well to the normal stalwarts on this site.
Like I said I hope Daryl Powell and his crew do well for us, however, if we were still looking for a successor for Steve Price would we be looking at a coach whose season has imploded as badly as it has at Cas? Doubt it.

That's like saying Hull kr should've steered well clear of Tony Smith based on what happened in his last few years here. Awful signings, dire rugby, Middle 8s!

Awful analysis.
I'd be more inclined to judge him on his previous work over the last 10 or so years, than the last couple of months, when both he and Cas appear simply to have lost a bit of motivation - No surprise, when both know he won't be there in a few month's time.
What is happening there is probably the most predictable thing to happen this season in SL, especially once his move to us was confirmed.

| Not worried at all. It will be a brand new back to normalish season, brand new coach and backroom staff, new players etc everything is fresh and the excitement and motivation in the camp will be really high. The situation at Cas at the noment happens alot with the coach leaving etc it's just how it is

| I think Powell has more than enough credit in the bank to let one dodgy season under awful circumstances bring into question his coaching ability. He's lasted much longer than some high profile coaches elsewhere and Cas under his guidance have always been more than competitive under probably tight budget constraints.
Personally I'm really looking forward to him taking over and we'll certainly see a different style and approach to Price.

Awful analysis 'eh? So let's use your's DSM. Judge him on his last 10 years or so.- OK, since taking over at Cas in 2013 he has a 59% win rate.
I am not too bothered about that though, it's his results as a coach since announcing he was to become the coach of our team. He still has a responsibility to coach, motivate and manage his Cas players, that is his job. Compare that to Steve Price, who cops a lot of stick on here, and I am not one of his cheerleaders, his team are still giving us effort.
Like I have said, I hope for his sake and especially ours, he comes to Warrington and makes us the top team. He has a big job on, hopefully he can manage it.

| Wolf Hall are you for real? The guy hasn’t even arrived yet.As most have said Cas getting beat at Wembley then a free fall was most predictable not to mention covid plus departing players so I’m guessing the morale at that club right now is low.Regarding Powell I think he could be the best we’ve had for years but just my opinion.

Yes, it's awful.
He basically set the foundations for Leeds golden SL period.
He turned Featherstone into a SL standard side. Only RL politics stopped it happening.
He turned Cas from a bottom end SL side into a consistent credible trophy challenger, playing great RL while doing so.
So, in summary, he's improved every side he has ever been in charge of. If he improves us, then it's likely we finally win things on a consistent, dominant basis, as its pretty much the next step from where we are right now, which is that we are presently a frustrating, under achieving outfit, with all the attributes of a great side, but have no consistency.

| Not sure the club would be concerned, his team missed the play offs last year, and they still assessed that he was a good appointment. This year, despite the free fall, is more successful than last given the cup run.
As fans go, I think pressure will build on Powell, as I’ve said previously. From the end of the Smith era, there has been frustration re: recruitment and who was ultimately responsible for that. Smith had credit in the bank, but suffered from a poor recruitment pattern and frustrated fans blamed their choice of Agar, Fitzpatrick and Smith. Price has had similar stuttering signings, but has been saved by the ambiguity of signings to keep pressure off his back. I think it’s pretty widely accepted that Latu wasn’t wanted by Price, Sita has stuck around despite not being fancied by the coach, even BMM didn’t seem to fit in to his plans really, had the feel of a square peg.
But Powell has gone on record to say he is solely responsible for recruitment, he’s bringing his own men with him, coaches and players, he’s got Williams in, kept King and has been backed by showing a few big names the door who don’t fit in his plans (Austin & Mamo, plus Hill and Lineham if you believe the rumours). Expectation will build, quickly. The buck stops with him, he has a team that is 3rd or 4th best at the moment and demand to move up, and he has been backed to do that. We don’t need a ‘project’ coach, we need someone to get us over the line. Is he the man?

Look back at Leeds. His signings weren’t great, it was the kids that got the job done for Smith. I think it’s absolutely fair and accurate to say that Smith should be credited with the job done at Leeds, although Powell did a decent job of improving a sleeping giant, Smith woke the giant up and crushed the competition.
Featherstone, good job done. Although Paul Cullen did a great job with Widnes in the championship but nobody really looks at that when it comes to his career. It’s a second tier job, much different to managing at the top of the elite league.
Cas, you could argue, have systematically regressed since 2017. After a decent 2018 (3rd and a play off semi, which is just OK for a club who wants to be a big club) they’ve gone to 5th, 8th and currently 8th on the verge of missing the play offs again. That’s a significant slide.
I don’t want to come across anti-Powell, but I just don’t see the super coach that he’s being made out to be. Even with management of star players, Hardaker cost him a title, Chase was Chase, Clark walked, Carney walked, Solomona walked, Gale walked, Eden went from top try scorer to reserves.
