| I am getting confused (and fed up) with this whole dual registration thing, so can somebody help me out. Am I right in saying that Mendeika was one of the players 'signed' by Swinton on a 12 month contract?

That is what I recall as well. He was one of six; Shaw, Morrison, Ormsby, Burke, Riley and Mendeika.

| I think the contract with the RFL and Swinton is only valid on days prior to the summer solstice, where aquarius is the ascendancy and in alignment with stonehedge. It is ruled null and void, and players are free to go-on loan (during daylight hours) to other clubs on days that coincide with the release of any Kate Bush top-20 single or if the day the contract was signed coincides with the first airing of Bagpuss or Ivor the Engine (but only in Lancashire).
Hope this clarifies.

Strangely enough, that does make perfect sense.
Some Swinton fans are going to be hopping mad though.

| I have gone back and dug out the post with the official RFL statement about the 6 players (but not tracked down the list of names as yet);
cumbrianwolf wrote:
The majority of the youngsters in question are still "Warrington players" and are on a season long loan with Swinton, they still train full time with Warrington and train additionally with Swinton in the evenings.
Extract of letter from RFL;
"Picking up on your specific point I can confirm six Warrington players have recently transferred to Swinton, all of whom were ineligible to play in this season’s U19s competition due to being in the U21 and U20 age categories. Having taken the view point they were not going to play many, if any, games in the first team in 2013 all six players have agreed to the transfer arrangements and their new employment contract with Swinton Lions RLFC. These players are now not registered or contracted with Warrington Wolves and therefore do not count towards the regulation regarding only allowing 5 loan and/or dual registered players in any matchday 17".

And here is the article from the Swinton Lions web site;
www.swintonlionsrlc.co.uk/lions- ... ngton.html
Surprisingly Mendeika is not on the list. Mind you, Brad Dwyer is mentioned as a signing, and they also talk about 'dual reg' rather than contracts.

From what I can remember, the news of these 12 month contracts only came out after Swinton were heavily criticised in round one for fielding nine Warrington players. There was never an announcement from Warrington and the players have stayed on the website. I might send an email later.

| Just done a bit of digging, and the six to sign for Swinton were "Morrison, Mendeika, Burke, Shaw, Ormsby and Riley".
What's going on is anyone's guess! Squadbuilder/WWST have been silent on this, which is unfortunate as they are probably in the best position to at least try and explain what on earth is going on. Perhaps Roy or someone else who reads this forum could help?

| I don't think Squadbuilder should try and explain it, not in any official capacity anyway. They are NOT the club. Either the club or the RFL should make it clear though; it looks a bit smelly.

I worded that wrong sorry. What I should have said is as a supporters group which represents fans on youth development it should be pushing for some answers, a fans forum on the issue would be well attended I am sure.

| I think it is quite simple! - this is an extract from the RFL letter - " Having taken the view point they were not going to play many, if any, games in the first team in 2013 all six players have agreed to the transfer arrangements and their new employment contract with Swinton Lions RLFC. These players are now not registered or contracted with Warrington Wolves and therefore do not count towards the regulation regarding only allowing 5 loan and/or dual registered players in any matchday 17."
The six were subsequently increased to 7 with the inclusion of Danny bridge.
As the rules have it, swinton have loaned Mendieka to london, the seven players have no contracts with warrington. It has been announced on the swinton website.
You may note the careful wording on the warrington website which avoids saying he is currently a warrington player...vague.
I suspect that the reason they still appear on the warrington website is due to the fact that warrington have received sponsorship for the player and it is not political to have dumped your reserves.
That said, click your fingers and I am sure they will find a way back.

| To further muddy already murky waters, in referring to both players loan arrangements, TS is quoted in todays League weekly as saying ...
"Brad is probably just getting back to the standard where he deserves a shot in super league again .... the benefits they'll gain from having a shot at that level, we feel, will enhance their chances for us and when given the chance with us, they'll be the better for it".
Seems pretty conclusive to be honest, rather suprisingly so in some ways.

Not sure about Bridge as he has been in our matchday squad last couple of weeks. Perhaps Swinton have loaned him to us?

Why would Swinton choose to loan out a first team regular?

| Chris Terris Taylor of the WG has written on twitter that "Danny Bridge, Ryan Shaw and some of the other Wolves players are not Wolves players officially, but Swinton players that train full time with Wolves. As such, it was Swinton that loaned Brad Dwyer and James Mendeika out to SL clubs officially, not Wolves."
I think he has got it wrong with Dwyer, but otherwise confirms what has been said above. As someone pointed out Danny Bridge has been in the 19 man squad lately, so I presume he is currently on loan to Warrington? What a mess.
Quote ="Paddock Punter"But has anyone seen him play?'"
He captained the under 20s squad last year from stand off, but seems to have switched to centre this year so difficult for me to comment really.

Apparently Dwyer is indeed a Swinton player. D Bridge is on loan to Warrington.

Certainly the scrapping of the u20s, the decision by SL Clubs (but not all, Warrington voted against) to not go with the RFL recommended u23s and the farcical dual reg / loaning situations not to mention the difficulties in funding the community programme following the massive reduction in Sport England funding have all been hot topics at our recent board meetings. So much so unfortunately we have not got down to analysing the detail of how individual players are being managed. Only that despite this being a system Warrington did not want, the club are determined to make it work as best they can. So I guess we will see a few more curious arrangements as the season continues.
I can only hope the clubs can get back together, realise they've made an almighty mess and put it right for 2014.

| From Love Rugby League-
Quote There has been some confusion surrounding young centre James Mendeika's loan move to London Broncos earlier this week.
Mendeika, 21, has moved south on a five-week loan in a deal announced by both Warrington and the Broncos.
However, Mendeika is actually on the move from Championship side Swinton, with whom he signed a one-year deal earlier this season, alongside five other ex-Wolves team-mates - Glenn Riley, Ryan Shaw, Gene Ormsby, Jordan Burke and Jack Morrison.
The RFL have confirmed that Mendeika is officially a Swinton player, now on loan to London.
The confusion stems from the partnership between Warrington and Swinton, which sees the Lions make use of the Wolves' facilities, effectively meaning the six players have continued to train full-time with Warrington.
That confusion was further increased when Warrington announced that Mendeika, as their player, had made the move south, while London also announced in a press release that they had signed Mendeika from their Super League rivals; when in fact, he had been signed from Swinton.'"
