| I asked this question on another thread...But its disappeared due to the shear amount of threads.
I've been to Old Trafford a couple of times, head into the city centre for a few beers before going to Sam Platts near the ground before kick off. The Wetherspoons (Bishop Blaze) and the Trafford arms near the ground get really busy so you have to be early for those two..
Usually in the city centre i just end up in a couple of wetherspoons... So i wouldn't mind knowing of any other decent city centre bars myself..

| Think the place we go everyyear is called the Quay House at Salford keys about 5-10 minute walk to the ground from their. There is another pub 5 mins away from that that usually gets rowdy before kick off but the Quay house is very good.

| The pub opposite Selfridges, cant think of the name of it, will not let anyone in who has some form of jersey on. They told us last year that we cant go in with football shirts on, they werent happy when we told them that they were Rugby League shirts. Add to that, we were a mixed group with Hull, Leeds, Wigan, Bradford fans all in the group.
Moon Under The Water is a good watering hole. Deansgate doesnt get as chocker as some think. Usually then travel to the Lightning Bar at LCCC or Trafford Bar which is a 10 minute walk to the stadium.
Matt Busby Way is also a good spot for a drink, fans all mix round together and can usually spot a good selection of shirts.

Northern Quarter would be a good shout - less likely to see people from Yorkshire in those bars (apart from in the bins).

| Surely people old enough to get into pubs won't be wearing replica shirts?
Sinclair's (the one opposite Selfridges) is a good boozer, as are quite a few in Manchester. The Northern Quarter and Spinningfields are both popular areas, but personally I prefer Oxford Road.
If you want to play it safe with Wetherspoons I imagine the Paramount on Oxford Street, The Moon Under Water on Deansgate and the one opposite Piccadilly Gardens will all be busy with people going the match.
Personally I'll be with a 12 year old so won't be drinking in town. Sam Platt's between the ground and Salford Quays it is.

| You still have to show match tickets for the Blaize, for the rugby matches? if so might have to meet my mate outside, now that i know DM is going to Sam Platts, it's obviously too cool a pub for me.

Just before the Vauxhall Garage and Stretford Sports Centre (same side of the road, on the right as you approach from Stretford)

Head past Old Trafford on Chester Road towards the M60 and it's next door to the Vauxhall garage with a Honda garage opposite I think.
It's cheap and basic, like all little social clubs. It's sometimes a bit of a no go on a United match day as you get a lot of lads on banning orders in there. I should imagine there will be loads of RL fans in there on Saturday.
Quote ="Dropkick Murphy" and the one opposite Piccadilly Gardens will all be busy with people going the match'"
Blimey it's rough in there. I was having a p!ss once in there with two lads behind me having a knife fight. Not a good situation when stage fright is kicking in.

| I've been in that Wetherspoons loads of times, often wearing shorts with an LFC tattoo on my leg, and never had any bother.
I must just be hard.

Great pub, all that ceiling decoration!! Probably more factually correct that it was demolished to make way for the office development in front of The Bridgewater Hall on what is now called Barbarolli Square. Happened overnight and a paltry fine ensued.
As I'm meeting my pals off the Warrington train at Deansgate, I will be pre match boozing on Liverpool Street, White Lion, Oxnoble, Cask, Commercial and The Deansgate next to Hilton on Deansgate seem favourite. Also easy side of town to get a taxi or met

City are at home at dinnertime so there should be loads of people around from about 9am in the pubs/bars from both City and Sunderland (who always bring about 2800).
There are loads of decent pubs in town. I prefer them to most of the bars and certainly more than all the Weatherspoons.
If you get into town at a decent time you'll have time to go to loads of places.
Head down Princess Street past where the student/indie club Fifth Ave is and under the bridge on the right is Charles Street where there is Joshua Brooks www.joshuabrooks.co.uk/main/ on the corner (excellent night spot for anyone staying in town afterwards) and next door to that is the Lass O'Gowrie which has just won a 'Best Pub in Britain' award. Head down Charles Street and you go towards Oxford Road where there are places like The Thirsty Scholar and further up Temple Bar.
All great drinking places.
Northern Quarter northernquartermanchester.com/ is spot on. There are literally dozens of pubs and bars. Head for Thomas Street (opposite Shude Hill Met Station) and there are loads together, and just roam around and you'll stumble upon loads of places to drink (and eat - Troff do a great full English breakfast!).
Shambles Square (the place someone else mentioned as being opposite Selfirdges) is good. Sinclair's, the Wellington and the Mitre have fairly big outside drinking area, and the Crown & Anchor is just next door.
Close to St Peter's Square and opposite the back of the townhall is a Weatherspoons called the Waterhouse. Next door to that (at the back) is the City Arms and the Vine Inn (close by is Tiger Lounge). They are decent boozers.
Then you've got the more obvious (which will be more rammed, probably more expensive, with much worse choice of beers and arguably clientel), more cheesy, more commercial bar areas like Deansgate Locks on Whitworth Steet West and Deansgate and The Pritnworks.
Plus obviosuly the Quays area and pubs around Old Trafford itself.
I'll be out all day as i'm going to watch City at dinnertime so hope to see some of you around town!
