If the above were to come into force, which I have no doubt it never would, how would these 500 + people arrested live? They would probably be forced to steal, creating a vicious never ending circle. So stopping their benefits would ultimatly impact more innocent people than those affected.

Punishment is needed, but something that isn't going to affect society in the long run.

Please don't be under the illusion that if we keep on giving these scum benefits they will not commit crime in the future.They are committing crime now and will do so in the future regardless of whether us decent tax players carry on paying for them.

simple..build more prisons and lock them away for a very long time..and dont give them computer games and a games room etc,may sound harsh to some but they are there for a punishment..let the time fit the crime

I'm under no illusion that those who undertook looting and mindless damage are indeed no angels, however stopping benefits, I feel, would be counter productive. Rather than having the X amount of money for spending on what they want, reducing that to a 0 will impact a lifestyle they are currently happy with, and so, to maintain that lifestyle they will turn to crime. That's assuming they won't get jobs by the way.

I think hard labour or indeed prison with some sort of punishment system, regardless of how well behaved they are, no PS3, no treats, just basic supplies and living requireents, make people resent prison, rather than having first dibs on the pool table.

I think the punishment in this country is far too leinient, shown all the time in the press, and more recently by the woman who killed her lover in the lay by a few years ago - just got out, name escapes me.

What about the ones who are working? Should we make them work for nothing?

They should be forced to spend their weekends clearing up dog dirt with their bare hands..

simple: dump them on one of the empty islands off Scotland and just Police the waters around it, or the time honoured

Not sure but one of the first up in court was enlisted with the army. Maybe that's why the the army weren't deployed; they were too busy looting.

They will not stop if you withdraw their benefits they will just think f- society we are going to take what we want.

And why not, if you want to smash up and steal from a supermarket who will stop you? I bet now if you get 20 scallies to go and run through Asda and take what they want nobody will do anything about it, the police can't deal with a group.

What I think would be an effective, inexpensive way to deal with them is this:

Take them to a distant police station, or other appropriate place.
Tell them to strip off.
Give then a disposable nappy to hide their modesty.
Let them make their own way home, and come back in 3 days to pick up their belongings.

Not sure what the Court of Human Rights will think, but who cares?

Lazy spongers do nothing more than make my pi55 itch but I think removing benefits will hardly 'cure' them! If anything, it'll encourage rioting on an even bigger scale.

The biggest issue in this country is the lack of respect held by youngsters who also have a complete ignorance of repercussion - simply because, well, there really isn't any today. Now I'm not going to go into detail about spending cuts impacting on the Police Force/Service (whatever the bob the builder hats are called these days ..) because I'm generally not too knowledgeable on this subject. However, it's obvious that there is a substantial issue there as the looting taking place in Manchester ran for a fair while before any Police intervention was made. These little anarchic bell ends had the freedom of the city, almost!

The other major issue is, I look at a copper now, and it hardly strikes the fear of God does it? People are harping on about how GMP officers put in 12 hour stints, showed tremendous courage etc etc etc..... give over! They were hardly confronted by the Mafia in a mass shoot out were they? We're talking predominantly about thousands of teenage chavs here and their smarmy faces and general 'F You' attitude towards the coppers was hardly a suprise to me. Because any consequence they face - if they get caught first and foremost - is nothing more than a smacked ar5e.

This country is progressively losing its sack and has been for a considerable amount of time. And in my opinion, those members of the public who entered into their community to deal with the problems in their own ways, having lost interest in watching mayhem go literally unpunished, should be encouraged every day of the week. All these little morons need is a good kicking, and a moment where they genuinely shat themselves, not ASBO's and therapy.

I've just found out this bloke was someone I used to teach in a South London comprehensive, about 15 years ago.

Now while I wouldn't have put it past a good few of the nutters I used to 'teach' being involved in all this, what's puzzling me is that this bloke was a well-adjusted, personable young lad at the time. Most odd.

All i know is the Punishments...thats right "PUNISHMENTS" aren't Severe enough and the prisons arent Harsh enough.

the remedy for that isnt exactly rocket science so sort that out and a few of these wannabe gangstas will think twice about recieving a dry bumbing next time around...
