| With SL having reached the halfway point, who would you view as the current leader/favourite for Man of Steel?
Sky seem to think it would be Rangi Chase/Danny Brough at the moment.
My contenders would be:
Chase
Brough
Roby
Dureau
Monaghan M.
I think a choice from Warrington is a difficult one, with most of the team playing very well you could easily make strong cases for Westwood, Briers and Hodgson among others. Chase's chances will dwindle unless Cas can return to form and Brough would be my pick so far.

| Every fan will claim to Havin a man of steel in their ranks!!
You have named a few already.
It would be embarasing if James Roby isnt in the running again has he won it one year as a bench player!
Westwood is gettin big raps off pundits all the time,so is monas!
Hoffman is havin a decent season so far as well, peacock is another who could force is way in!
All still to play for though if Brough keeps up the performances he could well be in with a shout as well..
Dark horse could be James Graham must keep his dummy spittin to a minimum though..

| James Roby must be streets ahead. He's carrying Saints on his own.
Hodgson is our best bet as I think he's been our best player this year. Followed closely behind by MMonas, Moz, Gaz & of course Westwood.

| Scott Dureau would be a very good bet I think. He isn't playing for one of the bigger clubs and is getting noticed a lot. He has been a great influence for most of what Catalans have done this season. Certainly against us his kicking game was superb and he could break through tackles comfortably. But thats against us! Certainly for you guys, Hodgson has been brilliant so far this season. I'm not saying he should win man of steel, no where near, but a very underated player, who I find doesn't get as much credit as he deserves is Paul Wood. Apart from that, totally agree with the short list that you've put down. Oh, all you need now is Richard Moore on the list! Jokes!

| James Roby 2011 so far:
206 metres per game
40 tackles per game
I might be completely biased, but he's been absolutely incredible so far.

You need to pay more attention at school. I bet you go to Lysander or Newman.

| Not having a dig here Saddened, but the MoS has lost all credibility (for me) since Roby 'won' it a few years back, when he was only doing 20 minute stints when Cunningham wanted 'a blow'.
I can't comment on Roby (this season), as I've not seen that much of him.
On a Wire point, Monaghan M is a good shout. I can't see Hodgson getting it, due to time off the pitch (rested games). Mind you, as above, it worked for Roby a few years back

He was the clear choice that year, there was no one else to compare to him. People just need to ignore what they see on Sky sometimes. Trent Barrett was the big favourite that season but whenever and I mean whenever Wigan weren't running up big scores against mis-matched teams he was awful. He was such a coward and never once stood up for them. People see one or two performances on Sky and assume that is how the player is all through the season.
Proof of that is the number of nominations for Danny Brough today after he scored a scintillating try against Saints. Where were all the nominations for him as a contender in any of the countless number of threads on various boards discussing this topic.
arliebird has made a more sensible suggestion in Craig Fitzgibbon, he's a warrior and is having a fantastic year and was even when they were doing so poorly.

I have seen him rip Warrington apart twice this season and he has destroyed sts.

Any side in SL would have beaten that Saints team at the weekend. They were a complete mess.
I really rate Brough, just questioning where all the nominations for him were last week when this was being discussed?

| To be fair Brough & Brown have been very good this season and could both be counted as contenders. You'd have to be very blinkered to not view Brough as a strong contender at present.
This isn't a Danny Brough thread, it's just a discussion about who people think is Man of Steel at the halfway point in the season.
And I think it'd be tough for Roby to win at the moment as he's only really standing out because Saints have had nobody else looking decent.

| Come off it, Saddened
Even Clark Kent would struggle to win MoS, when he was only playing 50% time.
I found the Trout Barrett 'campaign' that year, a tad embarrasing, especially after a 'washed up' Lee Briers had Trout in his top pocket, in both games that season.
For once, jdrocket speaks some sense about Brough. A very talented individual, who's gone relatively unnoticed, due to the clubs he's played for.
Whoever receives MoS, I couldn't give a toss.
The football equivalents have become just as big a joke, in the last few years.

What nonsense. Jon Wilkin always looks more than decent
Foster, Lomax, LMS and Puletua are all doing really well for us.
