I've always done the full weekend, Friday until Monday and even Tuesday, but there is no way I'll be doing that in February.

Teneriffe and t.v is a far better option.

Brilliant idea I think. Actually get the start of the season some publicity for once. Fans will be desperate for rugby which will get a good attendance.

This has got to be the most stupid thing the RFL has done, who wants a weekend in Cardiff in February. What about all the people who camped and caravanned in May. What if we have snow and no-one can get there, or home. It should have been on a Bank Holiday weekend as usual. Will I be going NO.

Initially I thought about the weather being an issue etc etc. But if we can all remind ourselves of how eager we become during the last couple of weeks in pre-season, there is a fair bit of logic in 'Kicking off' the season with an event like this.

I'll certainly be there.

Great idea. Only been one of the four Millenium Weekends but won't miss this start of the season bonanza for anything. I know lots of people who feel the same.

It will be great watching the big derbies of Wigan v Saints, Hull v Hull KR, Leeds v Bradford and Warrington v Crusaders after 4 months without rugby.

My only concern is if we have to play the week before to make room for our WCC game later in the month. That would take the sense of excitment away from the Millenium Weekend a little for me. Perhaps we should agree to back-up mid-week sometime later in the season.

Its a risk having it at the start of the season because players won't be fully match fit and their bodies won't be fully battle hardened that early in the season, when your not fully fit thats when your prone to picking up injuries. The standard could be compromised as well because players timings will be out with having very little game time, pre season friendlies are just a blow out and they won't really get you upto the pace of SL.

I think this is a brilliant idea. I loved the Summer magic weekends, but this is that new twist. The roof will be on so we will be dry, the atmosphere will be electric, and it's giving the season the big BANG it needs to get off to a flying start.

A few months ago people were complaining about Murrayfield, many people even suggested that it should be the type of thing that opens a season, not what happens half way through. Now that that's what we have, people are complaining :/

May appeal to parents, it would appear to be half term.

Agree completey Paul. I loved Cardiff and the derbies will attract more fans that's for sure.

One of my favourite parts about Cardiff last time was walking around the city first as they had entertainment on and you could stand outside the pubs on a nice day talkin to fans and singing in the streets, but in February it is most likely to be cold so people will just go straight into the stadium or just be packed inside the pubs with little entertainment to see.

I myself will probably end up going just because its the first game of the season and will be bored of watching the football. Atleast it has a roof so the pitch should be fine to play on and should bring out some good open rugby.

Hopefully the derbies will make it more appealing to fans from other clubs to stay and watch such as the hull derby and Wigan v Saints

Loved it in Cardiff in May, but February? it's a no from me. The Magic weekend has been done now and should be scrapped imo, great for the first couple of years but we gain nothing from it now. Playing an entire round in a half empty stadium in a city who don't give a stuff about RL does nothing to promote the game. Blackpool in June if the MM had to stay.

Day trip it is then. I don't fancy stopping over night in February, but I feel if its marketed correctly we will almost likely see an opening season attendance record.

As people have mentioned, many don't like to miss the start of a new season so even if people just go for the day it could end up reaping bigger rewards.

That fixture list will deffinately help, but I dont think being in feb will help though. Not being a long weekend either will hurt the attendance. You wouldnt want your team playing last on the sunday
