Good evening all,

I am just after a little advice/information regarding the iPad. I have done my homework on the net and have weighed up the pros and cons but I am just interested in hearing from anybody that already has one.

The things I am interested in are, speed, battery life, ease of use, quality of screen etc. I understand there are many people out there who think iPads are a waste of money, but I really am more interested in constructive feedback at this stage.

I am looking at getting the 32 GB wifi version (that’s if it is possible to get one)

I would definitely recommend having a go of one in the Apple shop before buying. I had a go on one and was surprised by the weight of it.

As I don't own one I can't comment on its practical value, but my instinct tells me that like a lot of first generation Apple stuff it has go lots of potential to improve over subsequent versions.

Don't really keep up with all the technology stuff i find it tedious trying to keep up. i still only have a PS2, just can't be bothered anymore.

Its an i/pad made by Apple so that menas in six weeks time there will be a product out that will do exactly the same for half the price. Dont own one but have seen one being used. Its just like a huge iphone (infact image the giant mobile on trigger happy and you get the idea)

Except you can't make calls on it. I'd say it's more of a massive iPod Touch.

The best thing to do with anything, drop the 'keeping up with the jones' ' thing, wait a few months when all the saps have bought things at top dollar and then get it on the cheap.

It looks great. When would you use it though? Would you carry it round all the time? What is the equivalent lap top for the money? Would that have more practical software alreay built in to use?

I think I would have a lap top. Purely based on the cost and functionalilty.

I'd rather get the Apple MacBook Pro I think.

It looks like a big waste of money. I've got an mp3 player to listen to music, I've got a laptop which can go on the internet and can view pictures on. If I want to read a book I read a bloody book it's not exactly a burden on my life to hold a book and I prefer the feel of the pages than faffing around with a screen.

I reckon I spend enough of my life chained to technology I don't want something which will mean during my free time I can spend more of it looking at a screen.

Just a quick search on google shopping i found this. www.google.co.uk/products/catalo ... 8wIwADgA#p This is far better than the Ipad, has 288GB more storage, is more than twice as fast as the ipad, and a good 4GB of ram. and the ipad doesn't support flash That's why i don't see the big hype surrounding the Ipad and is over a £100 cheaper

That is also a thing of beauty. As a silver surfer that really made me smile.

For me it's a lot of money for an "intermediary" device. I have a laptop as it can do all I would need a PC to do. I therefore don't need both.

I understand it is'nt there to replace a laptop but I still won't be handing over that amount of my hard earned. Would be more tempted to sacrifice screen size and get a dell streak. Then at least I wouldn't still need a phone in addition to the i-pad.

As per many Apple proucts it is market leading in what it does and yet agin they have been the first to bring something to the mass market.

Played on it quite a few times, Played being a key part. Can type up work documents and its quite simple, but a laptop/bluetooth keyboard is whats needed if you're going to be doing alot of 'work' based activities. The next one will have a camera in the back and then that's going to be a big development.

Not going to replace laptops but it's a very nifty gadget to have. Would love one but far too expensive.

I'm a huge apple fan but the ipad has no appeal for me whatsoever.

It seems Apple are trying to invent a new place in the market somewhere inbetween a netbook and a smartphone!!!

I understand the intial excitement and many millions of people purchasing them based upon the hype and the clever advertising, but I really don't see where it fits in.

It is not a phone, so lets say i have an iphone, well I already have every single bit of functionality that the ipad has but on a smaller screen.
So I want a larger screen for surfing the web but don't want to carry a laptop round with me, well I can get a netbook for far cheaper than an ipad!

It just seems pointless seeing that on the iphone I can already listen to all my music, surf the net, read ebooks, etc etc, and it is also a phone!

Most people I've spoken to who want an ipad are almost trying to find or make up reasons for why they need one, but ultimately it is a product that is just not required or needed.

All these people saying Netbooks are more functional, are they really? I have used 3 or 4 different Netbooks, I have lasted 10 mins maximum before I've closed the thing in a huff. Slow, buggy, crash prone things that have small keyboards, low resolution screens and fragile bodies. I'm not going to comment on iPads because I've never used one, I know that is going to have to be a pretty bad device to be worst than your average netbook.

I'm not all that convinced by netbooks either to be honest.
At what point does a laptop become to big to take somewhere that it is fine to take a netbook to??
