| I think it was about 10 minutes in to the second half. We recived a penalty within kicking range. Should we have taken the two points on offer? that then would have put us 18-4 up (providing that we had kicked the goal) with the ball back.
But no, we choose to run it and on the third play, Briers gets hurt (ankle ligiments) and we cough up possesion through Bridge trying the same trick he pulled off in the first half. The flick on which takes the winger out and were in at the corner.
So my question is, Should we have taken the two points on offer or do what we did and go for the 6?

| IMO, no. I think we showed courage by trying to run the ball.
To quote ESPN NFL 2k5 "They are in go for broke mode. Unfortunately, they got broke." Despite this, it showed that we were committed to the game and still wanted to claw this one back taking both points instead of salvaging one.
I always think that hindsight is wonderful to have, but if you feel confident, you push for all its worth.

| It is all ifs and buts....... I do think we should have put a drop goal over on our very first attack of the second halve and let them know they would have to score three times and kick two of the conversions, I do believe that would have changed the course of the game.
I know hindsight is a great thing but at halve time I said to someone I was talking to that we should go for a one pointer the very first chance we get.

| Said it at the time and got laughed at.
What score did we lose by...
Didn't enjoy the result but I got a good i told you so in! Briers and Bridge were both on then and it was more kickable than the one with 2 to go. ALWAYS take a three score lead when available in a close game, school boy error

| Nope.
We've craved a new Warrington for years. A team that wants to win at all costs, that doesn't give up, that never knows when it's beaten. Well, it looks like we've got it, we were 2cm away having it anyhow.
Be careful what you wish for, eh.
I found it refreshing that there was no mixed messages, no looking at the bench, just 'lets win this game'. Granted, it cost us a point, but we've set our stall out now, it will have been noted.

Not taking a three score lead was the latter

| This is something Smith practiced at Leeds - his philosophy was that in a Grand Final you may need to run the penalties when chasing a game so - he hoped - practice would make perfect. Policy can backfire big style - ie when Sinfield didn't kick an equalising penalty in the cup final v Bradford (maybe Powell was in charge then?)
As a Wigan fan I'm glad - in hindsight - that you didn't take the two.

| It wasn't just the two, personally I think it could have killed the game off. That and Briers wouldnt have been injured in the following set or two. Mind you, its pointless really because the whole game would have been shaped differently

| In the big games you have to take the points when thay are offered. "Just keep turning the screws" You don't often get a second chance. At the time we were struggling a bit and had been finding it difficult to break the line. But that was last week lets hope we can bounce back on Sunday.

| i AGREE the 2 points at that point in the game was a must.
But the one i am completly shocked at was the penalty in the last 2 minuets when we taped. Bad decission TS.

I agree with you, it's better to take the 2 in that situation as it gives a big psychological boost to go an extra score ahead. Teams have to be ruthless in the close games. I'm still baffled why when we (wigan) went 22-16 up, and had a set within your 20 metres with not much time left on the clock, on the 5th tackle we were right infront of the posts about 10 metres out and ran the ball rather than going for a drop - that 1 pointer would have left you needing 2 scores and quite possibly ended it there and then. I think a player as crafty and experienced as Briers would have gone for the drop in the same situation.

Thats why we didn`t go for goal and take the 2 points, you can`t be happy with just a point against the small clubs, you have to be more amitious than that.
Anyway, you can see how far we have come as a club with the way that Wigan celebrated the win, it was like a cup final for them in beating one of the big teams.

| " see how far we have come" ????????????
its the first time the Pies have beat us at the HJ ever.
In that respect either we've gone backwards or they have gone further forward than TS has taken us.

| i think we did the right thing on not taking the 2 , build more pressure on wigan ,, but the the penalty when we were 2 points behind i fought we should of gone for the 2 then , if we miss we get the ball back if we get the ball back either way we would get possesion again and probably gone on to score another try
