| Personally i don`t think it will matter who replaces Tony Smith as we just don`t have the quality in depth to have a realistic chance of winning a series or tournament against Australia, none of the british based coaches look good enough so in my opinion it will have to be an overseas based coach whether thats an australian or kiwi.
The only name i can come up with that isn`t coaching a first grade team at the min and has coaching experience at the highest level and recent success is Mal Meninga, he has business commitments in australia so i`m not sure if he would come over or not.
If would couldn`t tempt Mal Meninga over here then Reg Reagan would do for me, at least getting beat would be a bit more of a laugh.

| Jon Kear seemed quite interested last time he was on sky. In fact id say it was worth a wager.

John Kear to me is a great coach at working with other clubs cast offs and the lesser names in our game, he seems to develop a lot of averag eplayers into good solid team players.
I think where he falls down is with the bigger name players, if what you hear is to be believed then he had a lot of problems at Hull in controlling the dressing room, i like and respect him as a person and he is an excellent coach at getting the best out of fairly average players, anyway i doubt the RFL will go for a case of Deja Vu with the next England coach.

| Hanley is a good shout for me. Hes a quality coach who would instantly command the respect of the players and hes not attatched to a club is he. He has had the GB job before though, so i dont know if that would put him off.

Had this discussion coming home from the game last night. The problem is we need a coach who is prepared to work until the 2013 World Cup. Hanley doesn't seem to have the patience or commitment to last that long after brief stints at Castleford and Doncaster.
Looking in the UK, for me the next best [iUK-based[/i coach is Justin Morgan, but if the RFL are looking for a full time coach it may be difficult to temp a current Super League boss.
I'd like to throw a name into the pot randomly; Graham Murray.

| The best, but probably one of the most difficult to acquire would be Brian Smith. Big on structures and developing all facets, not just day-to-day coaching.
May be worth a punt, who knows?

Not sure if he'd be willing to juggle two jobs, he's just took over the Roosters and he has a big job to do there. Maybe in the future.
I'd be pretty interested in one of the Origin coaches, or one of the former origin coaches, simply because they've coached at a very high and competitive level; furthermore, their experience of training for origin, etc., could raise the standard and intensity of coaching throughout the game, something I feel is needed.

Thats why we are saying he would be good as coach of England. Nobody's touting him as the next Aussie coach?

Wonder who will line up in the halves for England alongside Danny Brough should Kear get the gig?

| Can't think of any suitable English candidates.
Its a shame Shaun Edwards never stayed in the sport, I reckon he would have made a quality RL coach.

| Shaun Edwards please. Surely he could continue to live in London as coach of the national side? Minimal travel up north and could possibly used as bonding time with his son during school holidays?

| It'll never happen but I'd love Eddie The Eagle with Jimmy Kranky as his assistant.
