| This is probably going to annoy our resident posties but here goes...
Normally, without industrial action, I would receive aprox 3-4 letters eachday Mon-Sat on average. Since last Wednesday I have received only 3 letters (yesterday), two of which were complete junk. Today has seen no delivery whatsoever.
Now I appreciate that whilst the strikes continue there will be delays but there is absolutely no way that the sorting office have no mail waiting to be delivered to me. I know for a fact that a book I ordered was despatched first class last Tuesday but its still not arrived.
I get the impression that the notoriously slow and unreliable Royal Mail employees are using the dispute as some kind of excuse to offer an even worse service than what was previously on offer. I wish someone could come up with a viable alternative for door to door collection and delivery and that the Royal Mail could be put out of its misery. I would just add that this is not a matter of me disapproving of the industrial action - i dont know enough about it to form an opinion on that.

| I've had no problems myself. I ordered some clothes on-line on the Wednesday night before the first strike, and they arrived Saturday morning three days later.
The only thing I'm waiting on now is the 4 nations final tickets.

The mail you were expececting doesn't come direct from source straight into the Warrington office. I would hazard a guess that due to the strikes it has been held up elsewhere.
I can hand on heart guarentee to you that if it has arrived at the office we are trying our best to get it delivered during these difficult times for all of us.

It is because that has probably been in the system for a few weeks. If it has a big M in the top right corner then firms can hand that over to Royal Mail weeks in advance and then specify a date when it is to be delivered. As the strikes have held up most of the first and second class that it isn't surprising that this is all that is getting through.

That is where you may get a little frustrated. Although usually machine sorted mail usually get's through just a couple of days late.

| I would ask for a little patience and support to your local Postie during these hard times because if Royal Mail get their way you will see a much more expensive less frequent service than what you have now.
Those of you that don't live in a cost effective area for the company will then have to come and pick your mail up yourself (at a cost no doubt).
The only thing the postal workers are after is not to be bullied and harrassed into unagreed changes in the work place.
I just wish that some of you could go in and see what goes on so that maybe you would understand a little as to why the CWU have decided to take this drastic action. Nobody wanted this strike to go ahead but workers have been left with no choice.
It is NOT about money. There has been no pay rise now for the best part of 2 years. Everyone knows the business has to modernise, however there are ways and means to go about it.

More people should sign up to the Mailing Preference Service www.mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/ that would really hit Royal Mail hard if everyone signed up because they make a huge amount of money from junk mail.

| in fairness, the mediea coverage of the strikes has been very one sided, and hasn't really made clear what exactly the surrounding issues are.
At the same time though, I think RM staff do need to be a bit more understanding of the total nightmare they will be causing for some individuals

I am fully aware of problems that it is causing and I apologise to customers on a daily basis if it is something that is serious (not a book). However most people are generally supportive face to face.

I'm on your side.
This whole thing is a joke and the Govt are the ones taking the p*ss - they are scum of the highest.
That idiot Mandelson doesn't know his elbow from his you know what and is the biggest piece of filth that exists on this planet.
I've read that in one sorting office in London there used to be 30 people with one manager - this was changed to 27 people and 2 managers with both managers getting a 10% pa salary bonus if they increased profitability ..... which they did by cutting the head count down to 22 ........ which affected speed of delivery etc etc etc. You couldn't make this cack up.
Mandelson is trying to offload Royal Mail and by creating the illusion of profitability the price would be higher - but the service is being hammered because of the way he and the odious toad Adam Crozier is going about it (Crozier, another piece of scum - previous experience running the FA).
This Gov't is a sick sick joke. How, as the Labour party, can they betray the people that they were formed to stand by and protect - the workers. They are more than happy to take Union money but don't give two hoots about them once in power and with access to a bigger pot of money to play with - the taxpayers and boy, have they got stuck into that.
I'm with you and your lot Lefty - the rest of you should be with them.

| You are correct, one of the main aims of this whole dispute is to remove union and therefore make it more attractive to private companies that will attack the service which would make it unrecognisable.

| im sure i saw it on the telly a few days ago that RM were trying to reduce postal workers salaries and in some cases it was from £20k down to £12k.
If thats the case i can understand why the workers are fighting it.
incidentally my book arrived this afternoon (our post is normally always delivered by 11am at the latest) and it was a woman who arrived in what appeared to be in her own car and was wandering up and down the road delivering parcels and letters to random addresses. She did have a RM flourescent jacket on though. Very strange.

This is the Labour party that's in power isn't it? What on earth are they doing?? I just wish they'd have the nuts to stand by something - just for the once and stick to it.

It would be less frustrating if we hadn't given the Labour Party 7 million pounds of our money over the last 8 years. That's why we have the support of the back benchers. However it's the top brass that are doing the damage....

Apology accepted. Oh and that will be Royal Mail trying to make everyone part time. However we are not on 20k.
