I know the Official Coaches are Alcohol free, but I have just been told that it is now unlawful to have alcohol on any Coach or Mini Bus travelling to a sporting event and has been that way for a few years!

Does anyone know if this is true?

I actually thought the law stated 'Football Matches'

Unless your stevo and which it's only soccer ball.

In fairness, it states 'major' sporting events - I count this as just another game in the season

Under Regulations 51(1)(k) of the Public Service Vehicles Regulations (NI) 1985 No. 123, as inserted by Regulation 47(13)(a) of the Public Service Vehicles (Amendment) Regulations (NI) 1990 No. 201, while a public service vehicle is standing, plying or carrying passengers for hire a passenger shall not consume alcohol.

You said it only covers major sporting events, I said it doesn't, it covers all events. If Stevo still thinks he's correct I'm sure he wouldn't mind be pulled into Knutsford services on route to discuss things with appropriate people.

Oh ignore me. Just starting my 7 day giddy countdown. 19 freaking years since the last time and I am hiring a mini bus from the same company (hopefully not the same bus!!) with most of the same people on it, although all are older (obviously), most are fatter, none are wiser and most have less hair (and that's just the women)

I believe the legislation states to a designated sporting event , which this will be - does not just affect football. The police have the power to search the coaches and they have the ability to summons the hirer and company providing the transport service.In the past this would not have been an arrestable offence but now if they have the nessecary criteria they can arrest for this.

Well, behave, I'd hate for the driver to lose his license and you all having to watch it from Woolley Edge Services. Perhaps if you insist, hide with all the coaches.

A 'designated sporting event' is defined as an event or proposed event that has been designated or is part of a class designated by order made by the Secretary of State. A 'designated sporting event' also includes events designated under the comparable Scottish legislation. Provision has also been made for events outside Great Britain to be designated and travel to or from these events by public service vehicle or railway passenger vehicle within England and Wales will therefore fall within Section 1 of the Act. The 'period of a designated sporting event' is defined as the period commencing two hours before the start and ending one hour after the end of a designated sporting event except that where the event is advertised to start at a particular time but is delayed, postponed or cancelled it includes the period commencing two hours before and ending one hour after the advertised start.

I do drink, but not at 6am, that's my point chief. It's going to be a long day, either the travel sickness and alcohol indigestion will make it unpleasant for many travelling down and/or nobody will remember the game and wake up with a bad head.

Afterall, been 19 years since the last CC final, I'd quite like to remember this one!



And as DJ BFC, IIRC, can confirm, can certainly be part of the atmosphere.

Point is, I don't care if anyone drinks or not, but there's families and the like on many coaches, lets not spoil there day by causing scenes/ trouble on the way there...or back.
