The Dream


We’ve waited too long for this day to come
Thirty thousand Wires standing as one
All travelling down, a sight to be seen
Man, woman and child sharing one dream
Tension in the crown as kick off draws near
Mixed emotions: excitement and fear
Restlessness as we huddle like cattle
Then Morley appears ready for battle
The rest of the team follow to fight to the death
The hooter sounds and we all hold our breath
Again the fans will have their own role
To sing and show passion deep from the soul
There may be times the players feel beat
Feeling too weak to achieve this huge feat
With their hopes and dreams they’ll look to the skies
To see a Primrose and Blue haze in front of their eyes
Then comes the roar; we never stop believing
This is one relationship we won’t be leaving
Cut us we bleed like everyone, that’s true
The difference being we bleed Primrose and Blue!

I do a bit of the old rhyming stuff myself. That's some quality work, sir.

You can equally substitute Jon Clarke's name in for Penny's in the view of the old bloke who stands near me and looks like he's about *that* close to popping a blood vessel when Clarke gets the ball.

It doesn't help, admittedly, when my mate and I shout things like "Jon Clarke - England's number seven" and "Lance Todd next week Clarkey lad", at which junctures this guy starts spinning in an apoplectic rage.

Not my favourite metre for a poem, but I really enjoyed it. Good on you!

Cinquain is my favourite but it's an art form i seem unable to recreate and look good

being a wire fan though Burlesque poetry would be more appropriate

Expert would be far too strong a word in all honesty, but I remember studying The Passionate Sherpard.

I got a certificate of recognition sent home for my 'cover', for lack of better word, of Jabberwocky, too, which was pleasing.
