I think what he was trying to say is that wigan have put an auction on e-bay for a child to be their mascot for the semi with us. Current bid £205. I really hope our club never tries to milk money out of our fans like this.

Small time idea from a small time club

In the Ebay advert, the first line reads

"A FANTASTIC MONEY CANNOT BUY OPPORTUNITY"

Erm, how do they think Ebay works?

As far as I'm aware lots of clubs sell the matchday mascot as a sponsorship package, so you could argue that an auction is fairer, as at least there's a chance that an ordinary fan might win it for a reasonable price.

I would say an auction is the worst possible way to ensure that "ordinary" fans can take part.

There should be no cost involved (and my understanding was this was normally the case) and it should be either a waiting list or ballot system for those who want to do.

Heard a rumour the funds are going to charity, all to do with the recent BBC sports presenter and her fight over cancer.

Do a team like Wigan need money? I expect Wire make close the the same, with season ticket and match day ticket sales, compared to Wigan.

I hope it is but it doesn't say anything about a charity or a good cause on the advertisement!

Seeing as Wigan don't get to spend all their money because of the communist cap surely they'd have some left over for a charity donation without the gimmicks

it is a waiting list all you have to do is ask at warrington two of my kids had the pleasure of being mascots for the last semi fantastic experience for them

I don't agree with the practice, but an auction has to be fairer for the ordinary punter than being up against businesses who can pay a higher price and claim the cost as marketing expenditure, not pay it out of a wage packet.

It would be good to win it and come running out next to umpah lumpah in your wire shirt kick him in the nuts and shout f-off you pie eating git , may put in a bid it would be worth it !
It is sad though that they have stooped as low as this and that their mascot now has to pay for the privilage

nothing wrong with selling the mascot position its their bussiness.not to sure how we pick ours will it be someone with a friend in the club?maybe vouchers in wolfpack booklet which can be entered into a draw might be a good idea.
