Personally i think Tony Smith has a tricky decision to make when Chris Hicks is fit and when Brian Carney arrives, to me Matt King has looked far more at home outside of Chris Bridge on the right wing. This isn`t suprising given that he played origin and test rugby on the right wing, when we signed him i pointed this out that he`s a far better winger than he is a centre as he`s a very good target man thats good in the air and is very difficult to stop close to the line due to his shear size.

I would be very suprised if we seen him as a main starting centre again in a Warrington shirt, the only time we should start him at centre is to cover for possible injuries. He`s playing well on the wing and he`s been a good target man for Lee Briers, not many players will out jump him or stop him with a full head of steam close to the line.

I`d be interested to know what the stats are on how many tries we have scored down the right hand side when Matt King has been on the left side of the field, we have always been a side that favours attacking the right, the amount of tries tries Henry Fa afili scored backs this up and now Chris Hicks is doing similar.

Even if you had Matt King`s height on the left i still think we would favour attacking the right, it doesn`t help Matt King if he`s on the left wing having Michael Monaghan as his main distribution source as Monaghan doesn`t have the best passing game in the world and his kicking is poor.

Like you say Matt King is the tallest or one of the tallest players in SL, he needs quality service and he would get better service on the right from Briers compared to what he would get from Monaghan.

Grix may have to make way for King to fit Hicks and Carney in the team. Grix may possibly have the weakest attacking game out of some very good picks IMO. However Grix made some fantstic tackles protecting the try line on sat that shouldn't go unnoticed.

TS alluded to the fact that Grix was playing as backup in that role of centre in an interview with Skents a couple of weeks back so looks like hes going to move back to the pack and challenge Vinnie for loose

That play of kicking to the corner for King is a great one should of been used more last season.

Agreed. Its a waste of salary cap having him on the wing next season when we've got Riley, Hicks, Penny and possibly Carney to fill those positions. If he can play centre for Melbourne in the NRL, I don't see why he won't be able to do it in the Super League for Warrington. Grix has done a good job there, but I would give King a run at left centre this season, as soon as we have 2 fit wingers available.

I'd like to see Grix as a Jon Wilkin type player.

At Melbourne Matt King didn`t need to be a creative centre, they had a system where the creative players like Slater,Inglis and Cronk joined the line out wide to create the overlap which would more often than not leave Matt King with a run in or a close range barge over.

He was also used in a similar way to what we are using hm now for which is to get on the end of high kicks which makes sense given his size, NSW and the Australian test team used him in a similar way which is why he only made the wing at test level given his lack of creative centre skils along with his defence which can be a bit ropey at times where he goes charging out of the line.

I agree, its a massive waste of our salary cap to have him stuck out on the wing when we signed him to be the soloution to our left centre problems.
