| Little worrying is that, "substantial sum" believed to be £500,000.
I don't believe a word Gatcliffe says anyway so the chance of the figure being higher is very much possible, let's hope the RFL and the Inland Revenue come to some positive arrangement that may work in our favour, i also cant see some of the current crop of players taking pay cuts either.

Technically they won't be taking pay cuts as their 'top line' will remain the same. Any changes in 'take home' pay are due to changes implemented by the tax man and not the club. The players may not like it, but there is very little they can do about it (the same as the rest of us if/when income tax or VAT is changed).

He has a point; other clubs will have the same issue but we might be in a better position to cope with it. Definitely better than Sintellins.

| Nothing about Andy Gatcliffe gives me confidence whatsoever, on the occasions ive heard him speak i can`t say he has left me brimming with confidence about the club. To be fair to him ive not heard him speak all that often but on the occasions i have heard him speak he hasn`t come across very well at all.
Is their anyone on our board that actually has a decent grounding in rugby league or are they just management people that in the main have come from other industries and fancied a change ? I`m not saying here that you need a grounding in RL to be a successful board member, what i am saying though is you need some form of experience in your chosen field of business from at least 1 person in a senior position because how else do you expect the business to be successful if nobody fully understands it ?
As far as i know we have Simon Moran, Doug "give a little wave" Hoyle, Andy Gatcliffe and Steve Broomhead in the main positions at the club, i don`t know a great deal about Steve Broomhead or Andy Gatcliffe`s backgrounds so if anyone could enlighten us all that would be appreciated.

Thanks mate, its as i thought really. Our board is basically made up of ex council people, managemnt from other industries and very little RL experience if any from what i can see. Its no wonder Paul Cullen was awarded a new 2 year deal on the back of under achieving and mediocrity if thats the make up of our board along with the strange decision to award Stuart Reardon a new contract.

| I always get the impression that Gatcliffe loves to take the plaudits but that alot of the time he maybe flying by the seat of his pants.
Its just my impression and opinion and doesn't go any further than that.
I would say though that a £500k tax bill maybe considered more than problem irrespective of how strong the clubs financial position - which cant be that good as they wouldn't be doing so much cost cutting and having fire sales etc.

Which RL person would you put in charge of a multi-million pound turnover business?
Again, McManus and Colquitt. What is their knowledge of RL? Leeds have Hetherington, what does Paul Caddick know? He doesn't even have a primary interest in RL.

I didn`t say anywhere that this person would have to be in charge, i basically said that in any industry you have people on the board that understand the industry that they are in and to have knowledge of it.
I don`t see anyone on our current board that has knoweldge of the RL industry because if their was a such strong minded person then their is no way that Paul Cullen would have been offered a new deal along with Stuart Reardon getting a new contract that was sanctioned by this current board on the back of poor and inconsistent form as well as his ever growing injury record.

Have to agree with you here - I would rather a bloke with little RL experience but lots of financial acumen be in charge than someone who bleeds RL but doesn't.

What about them ? The St Helens board won`t consist of 2 board members, neither will the Leeds Rhinos one. You can bet your bottom dollar that the people you have mentioned will be getting input from people that have an understanding of rugby league both on the field and off it.
So you believe this club is in good shape then ?

| If the people who post on this forum with their vast rugby league knowledge were in charge, I'd be worried!
They are the business men doing the business. There are a large number of coaching personnel that deal with the game side. At some level the two must meet otherwise we wouldn't be talking about how dire our performances have been, we would have gone down the river a long time ago.

I take it your not including Tony Colquitt's position at Gillette where he played a major role in developing Gillette's partnership within rugby league both in the UK and Australia, and has excellent contacts at local, national and global levels within the game.

| These criticisms of Andy Gatcliffe are unfair, the club was run poorly before he got there and we were always losing money. Since Gatcliffe has been in charge we've run a much tighter ship. I know we have had investment from Simon Moran but Gatcliffe had turned the financial situation around before Moran became the majority shareholder. We are never in trouble with the salary cap and we don't have Guardian "save the club" campaigns and talks of CVA etc now Gatcliffe is here, we don't have to sell players because we are skint any more. In times of a recession when you need someone who knows how to run a business cost effectively and keep it out of trouble then I'm happy to have him at Warrington.

Investment from a major backer and a new stadium is a massive advantage that Andy Gatcliffe has had over any previous Warrington CEO, i would question any board that gave out new contracts to Paul Cullen and Stuart Reardon as that was rewarding mediocrity and setting the path for us to continually under achieve.
As for your point about the salary cap and not breaking it, its possible that we could be in a right financial mess due to a route that our board chose to take which took advantage of a loophole but their must have been known risks of taking that route that could have left us owing a lot of money to the tax man which seems to be the case if the rumours are true as the guardian have stated that it could be upto £500k that we owe.
