He played for nearly 2 and a half years at 9 for manly when they signed orford and excelled there!!

This is what some of us have been saying for a fair while on here that Monaghan whilst at Manly turned into a far better hooker than he ever was a scrum half at the Raiders, if this is true that he is homesick then to me he should do the decent thing and mutually end his contract with us as we can`t afford to carry any passengers that don`t want to be here.

We could play Bridge and Briers as the halfbacks for the rest of the season and then Tony Smith can look for a fresh half back pairing for 2010, Michael Monaghan has done nothing anyway to warrant a regular starting place and its time we freshened up the half backs with someone like Chris Bridge to partner Lee Briers as thats about our best option if Monaghan wasn`t in the 17.

Can we think outisde the sqaure and get hold of a player like Michael Dobson who has all the ability and potential but with none of the (undeserved?)reputation?

I can imagine we will soon hear an interview in the Guardian with Monaghan or King saying "I'm going nowhere, I intend to see my contract with the Wolves out", because nobody in the NRL can pick them up on their current wages.

I doubt that Monaghan is as unhappy as we are with his performances in his 1st season and 4 games of being here,
He imo underestimated super league and thought he was in for a holiday but since turning up and getting on the pitch he has found out it is tougher than the NRL , He is not the 1st and wont be the last ,just look at the amount of players who come here from the NRL supposed best league in the world and flop and don't live up to there NRL reputation of being a top star not just at warrington at a lot of SL clubs NRL stars come here and underwhelm us with there performances but then go back to the NRL and are stars again .
IMO if we are going to bring in an NRL player you might as well bring in 2 or 3 top quality than 5 over paid under skilled journey men .
When I say quality I mean Thurston or Orford or Folau or Slater top players not the dross we get this includes Kiwis as well .

The problem is that a season of Wire coaching soon gets rid of any skills or committment that any superstar player may have.

I always find it refreshing how being in here proves how little Phil Gould knows about the game.

after 2 months we were all calling him a world beater and wondering why manly had ever let him go!!

i personally feel that he seemed to have a bad attitude especially while cullen was around but since he is still here and we have changed coaches again i say let's wait and see if smith can reignite the form he showed at first

Doesn't look like Monaghan is enjoying his rugby over here, he started off quite well last season but has since gone Backwards rapidly. Also his kicking game is woefull, after watching him in his last season at Manly he always wanted the ball was always the go to man on the last tackle even when Orford was on the pitch, such as good his kicking was. I think he should be allowed to leave at the end of the season if he's so unhappy or we need to cut our losses if his performances don't pick up. Darren Lockyer is the man i'd like to see at 6 next year even if is only for a season, he's still world class at 33-34, and lets face it every wire fan would loved to have had Joey over here for a season even when he would have been 35.

Well I thought he was excellent at weekend. So clean slate and everything, I'm looking forward to watching him again and also what he can do with a decent coach over him.

Big hopes came when Monaghan signed for Warrington and in all honesty has been as bad as sullivan was when he was here..

Cullen signed him as a Half back when he is a hooker all hands down.. his last year in the NRL was at Hooker so why change it ?? Becasue he thought Super League would be a easy stroll in the park well ill be glad when he's gone.. 2 new half backs needed ASAP ..

Unless he was particularly good in pre season training

1st 4 or 5 games he was outstanding, but went pretty plop quickly, he was even leading the Albert Goldthorpe table in the league express for a while!
