| Just wondered whether our super purpose built stadium has under soil heating or some other similar facility to combat freezing conditions?
I hear that temperatures are going to plunge over the the weekend, dont think it will affect the game on saturday but it would be nice to know that we had the facilities just in case.

| I thought only football grounds had undersoil heating like Hull FC, Wigan, possibly Huddersfield.... we have big sheets to cover the grass

| I was suprised to hear that LSV has under soil heating.
To be honest, it's not neccessary in my opinion. We never had it during the winter seasons so why do we need it now?

You wouldn't be saying that if tomorrow nights game is called off due to a frozen pitch.
Technically you are correct though as SL is supposed to be summer rugby yet the RFL are so stupid that they deem it fit to start the competition in midwinter
The start of the season seems to be getting earlier and earlier with every passing year.

Actually, I would be pretty damn pleased as I cannot go on saturday for the first time against Wigan in SL so I'm praying it'll be called off. Fat chance though.

Temperatures are going to plunge?
It's not exactly been Algarve weather over the last couple of weeks, has it.

| Undersoil heating is actually very bad for the grass, ask anyone who knows in depth about horticulture his/her opinion. just put sheets over and run warm air through the sheets.

| We should invest in undersoil heating anyway, I know people would say it would only be worth it for the odd one or two games a season but you could pay for it by passing the costs onto the fans through increased ticket prices.
There are enough mugs on this forum who watched Wire through years of dross in an ageing stadium, so I would think demand was fairly inelastic for a good chunk of our support. If we have got the Challenge Cup winners playing in a state of the art stadium with undersoil heating then people should pay for it especially as it would allow us to attract top players from the NRL who would like the idea of their feet being warm when they were playing.
Has anybody done any market research at the levels of price setting at rugby union and wendyball, because everybody knows RL is a far superior product, and yet people pay £30 a ticket to go and watch that sort of rubbish. It's time to stop ticket prices in RL being artificially low and start getting some proper investment into the game.

I think Sally's post is a quite appropriate response to the opening post, which was total nonsense, which seeing as it came from you, is little surprise...

| To those wanting undersoil heating (theres not many of you because there is actually some common sense around) how many league games have we cancelled due to a frozen pitch?
For the sake of argument I will let you include all stadiums, all league fixtures and all friendlies. Even with all that, in terms of lost revenue from frost I still dont reckon you would be anywhere near the cost of installing undersoil heating.
LSV has undersoil heating does it not? Shame the surrounding roads and footpaths didnt because that was the only thing that stopped the game.

| At this time of the year the ground tends to defrost in the day and refreeze if there are clear skies at night, the ground wont freeze with players running all over it
Plus usually we usually just get rain in february, this winter has been very cold by my standards

Agreed.
When will the RFL wake up and realise that it'd be best to play all 27 rounds plus the play-offs in June, July and August?

| One of the reasons why we should have had a 12 team Superleague and started the season a few weeks later.
