| Even more adversity if he ever ready this site. Good honest pro who follows team orders, yet gets slagged off by many. However, I understand that most posters on here have much more knowledge of the game than a multi GF winning / CC winning / national team coach
I will be watching for sure.

| When the team couldn't defend Clarke was one of the few who could. When Matt King was being a turnstyle there was no boing of his name or cheering when he was substituted.
The send off the two players will receive from this clubs fans will be totally and utterly different. I like Matt King he is genuinely nice bloke but i absolutley respect Jon Clarke and the way he's gone at Warrington.
As value for money goes Clarke must win hands down.
I would like to think the idiots that give Clarke such pathetic abuse will watch this programme and maybe think differently.
Or maybe they wont .......

| It narks me a little when people jump to the defence of Jon Clarke, people have never had a go at his loyalty or commitment to the cause.
Its just he has limited ability and its a very basic game thats never going to take us forward in any way shape or form, he's had over 10 years very good employment along with getting paid for something he enoys doing.
Does anyone on here genuinely believe that he would have lasted 10 years at somehwre like Saints, Leeds, Wigan or Bradford during the era that he has played the game ?
Lets face it we had a previous coach in charge that showed far too much loyalty to certain players, the new 4 year deal that was given to Jon Clarke i doubt very much that it would have been handed by Tony Smith given his reluctance to play him even when we have injuries.
Ive nothing against Jon Clarke at all, he comes across as a very decent bloke off the pitch but the way some people go on about him you kind of think that they would like a bronze statue putting up of him either in town or on the way into the stadium.

Agreed. The 4 year contract that Cullen gave him must go down as one of the most ridiculous in the history of the game.
This is the first time Tony Smith has had the chance to decide on his future, so there's no way he will be at the club after this season.

| This stupid. I don't think anyone thinks him to be the best in the team or anywhere near. The point, Rob and firewire, is, as you point out, he was given a big contract, that is where the tension originates.
There are many people that seem to harbour a great deal of hatred for clarke because of it. The person that people have a problem with is cullen. What was clarke supposed to do when tony arrived? Resign?? Obviusly not. Clarke turns up hungry everyweek and plays to the best of his ability.
He will probably move on but there is no greater servant to the club than clarke. He even seems hungry after the fans (of the team he has been with for over a decade and loves) have given him .

And if Smith does give Clarke a new contract would that mean in your opinion that Cullen was right to give Clarke a four year contarct or would you claim that you have a better knowledge of rugby than Tony Smith?

| He's not in the same league as Michael Monaghan, for example, he never was a never will be. Yet, a few years ago he continued to roll up his sleeves and kept giving us 100%, through tough times, when many other 'better' players went hiding. He always gives his all whenever he is called upon, as he will continue to do as long as he wears the primrose and blue... Great servant to our club- not a flashy player but a hard worker. To my knowledge not many rubbish players get picked for GB! His best years are behind and I will admit he's not my favourite player but as long as he wears that primrose and blue i'll support him 100%, just as he will continue to give us 100%...

But he gets booed when his name is announced and when he comes on the pitch. He gets cheered when he is substituted. The attacks on him are unfair and typical mob mentality of sports fans.

very appropiate answer i for one like clarkey he has gone off the boil a little maybe with a shorter contract he may have played a better game but like you say if ts gives him a new contract i think there will be a bit of back tracking by some

| I like Jon Clarke and as others have said, in darker days he really rolled his sleeves up and played with a lot of heart..... Would he have gotten in the top teams at the time probably not.... But neither would many of our players at that time.
Looking forward I'd be surprised if he gets another contract, in my opinion he's not good enough for us now...... Doesn't mean he hasn't been in the past.

| Clarke hasn't regressed in recent years. Just that the players around him have gotten alot better which makes Clarke look worse than he actually is. Would you have Michael McIlorum or Scott Moore in front of him? I know I wouldn't. Higham is one I have no time for.

He doesn't have to play with a pain killing injection though does he? Like someone has said he get's paid i can imagine decently for it, i played a game with a broken hand for my team and i had to pay them subs.
Clarke has been a good servant for us, but he should never of got that long contract and he has just gone out of contention ever since Smith took over
