| Sounds exactly like what most of us suspected - A gang of underachievers, hacked off because a new coach comes in and tells them that their comfort zone is no longer going to be as comfortable as they are used to, and so they basically downed tools.
Good on Powell (& the club for backing him) for being ruthless and sorting out what was obviously a significant number of bad apples.
I think we can all guess the main culprits, I just wonder if Wigan will be as willing to allow them to rule the roost, as they obviously enjoyed doing with us?

| Well I'm glad Amor was in the trenches with us then - what a disgraceful attitude. Sorry, can't stand the man. Pay my wages please but don't expect me to dig in whilst the going is this tough.

| It's all a bit strange this. We heard his thoughts last year and not sure why it's being brought up again.
Sad old boy. Well I suppose ... the current transformation of our fortunes is pretty newsworthy.

| When we signed Amor, Powell said: "He will add depth and experience to our squad and I also expect key leadership skills to come from his time at St Helens. I’m looking for us to really grow over the second half of the season and Kyle has a perfect opportunity to support us in doing that.”
It appears that rather than providing leadership and support, Amor went into full-on sulk mode and just became part of the problem.

It keeps getting brought up as he keeps getting asked about it, in the same way Powell keeps getting asked about last years performances. I'm sure people will move on eventually, Feb 2024 probably!

| Agree with much of the above, we had been saying for years that the club needed a change of culture, when it happened (some of) the players clearly weren't happy with it and that reflected in some pretty shocking performances for much of the season. I had thought that maybe Powell could have approached things differently, but the more I read about it, the more I think he was right to try and get it done as quickly as possible.
I'm sure the players who have moved club won't act in the same way at new clubs, I think there was a comfort factor here and they had confidence they should have had a bigger say in how thigs were ran - that won't happen when they go in to a new environment.
Amor hasn't painted himself in the best light for me (or at least the article hasn't), he was clearly brought in to help provide leadership and drive standards, he failed in that regard and gave up before the end of the year.
It shows change was needed, and the club and CEO were correct in backing the coach to make that change, even when things were going so wrong on the field.

KA has gone up in my opinion of him, not that it was low anyway.
His honesty is a quality. He had it in him not to suffer in silence.
That I commend.

Totally agree.
I think the likelihood is, he rocked up and was met with a load of stroppy players, who were trying to create as much aggro for their new boss as possible - When trying to be the willing new boy, prepared to put a shift in, he likely was then met with sulking fellas, telling him not to bother, and after a few weeks of that he's, rightly, told Powell it's an unworkable sh!+show.
To be honest, this just makes me more interested in seeing Powell's memoir in the future - I suspect there will be a number of former Wire players who won't come out of it particularly well, especially a certain leisurewear company entrepreneur...

But he was suffering/moping in silence. It took Powell to pull him to one side for him to whine that he didn't want to play.
No doubt he did walk into a horrible situation, but knowing he was there for about six months only you'd think he'd be professional enough to ignore the politics and just get on with the job and even try and instil some stability.

| "Don't play me, I'm done". But still pay me until the end of the season please. What a great professional he is. Whatever comes out about the behaviour of some of our ex players last season, Amor isn't coming out of this with any credit either in my opinion.

| It would be interesting to get Steve Price's take on what was happening with regards to the club culture/bad apples during his time in charge. Did Price not see the problems, or perhaps he didn't even regard them as being problems? If he did recognise them, did he try to do anything about it? I think it was brave of Powell to confront the issues to the extent that he did last season. It put the greater, long-term good of the club ahead of his own reputation, which took an absolute battering as the season unravelled. If we continue our upwards trend in 2023 and it leads to Powell restoring his reputation, I'll be pleased for him.

Which is why I actually respect Amor here. He could have gone through the motions (like many of last year's squad appeared to be doing) and instead was honest when asked by the coach.
Makes you wonder just how tough it must have been for Powell - how frustrating must it have been turning up at work knowing several of the players had no interest of being there and because of the way contracts work, not being able to do much about it?
Many of us questioned why players were being shipped out like they were. Its pretty obvious now the battles Powell was having with the lazy, entitled bunch he was burdened with.

That’s my take on it…
He was honest and couldn’t give the shirt the respect it deserves. If only a few more from that 2022 squad had the nerve to be honest.

| For Amor to come in mid season and quickly sus that the situation in camp was bad suggests things were very bad and had been for a some time.
The leadership group have to take a lot of responsibility for that, but also in the KF interview last week he clearly said that if DP (and presumably KF) had the time again they'd have done things differently.
So there are issues all round that combined together to create a perfect storm.
It's not as simple as player x, coach y.
I can draw parallels with a point in my career.
We were a capable team who could typically be relied upon to deliver. A new manager was appointed who had little experience of our side of the business and when he came in rather than taking a little time to understand the job and people, he tried to teach us to suck eggs and got peoples backs up. So whilst we 'did the job', the atmosphere was poor and not many would 'go the extra mile'.
Was that the managers fault? Was than the fault of individuals within the team?
Both.
And I think that could well have been the situation last year - with the added complication that many knew they wouldn't be here next year.
I think Amor was probably just being honest, although it comes across poorly for all invovled, including Amor.
The Price years were not satisfying even though we won a cup. The style of rugby was really poor, and it all started out so positively with the win against (?) Brisbane.
A lot was down to Price I feel, but I do wonder whether he realised he was limited in what he could do, didn't recognise the situation or didn't want to / feel able to tackle the issues.

| Wasn't Price a kind of panic signing of a manager when nobody better was available ?
In truth ,though, the club had been in decline since the first few years of Tony Smith's tenancy. Maybe the homegrown roster of players should have been blitzed before it encouraged Smith to walk the plank .

| Not sure, but we often bemoan the fact we don't have many home town players coming through, or established in the first team, and when we do then sometimes they are viewed as being bigger than the club.
Either way, not sure.
