Pretty much sums up why I’m still on Powell’s side. I’m sure he’s made errors too and is learning new things about coaching and also himself. For those who blame him for turning things upside down, it was the club who recognised this needed to be done and tasked the coach with that based on his history. He admits it’s never been so hard to change a mindset of a team.'"
What the interview proves is whatever the club saw as a problem that needed solving, they chose someone who did not have the experience and skill set to resolve it. By his own admission, he has struggled.
He says he has learnt a lot this season, hopefully he has, but the cost of that education has been one of the worst seasons we have had to endure playing wise but also financial cost to the club.
Can he now deliver a consistently winning team? The jury is out but the club and supporters need a return on the financial and emotional investment made.
