Is there anything we can do to stop being so vulnerable from kick offs?

At Wakey we fielded 2 / 3 ? with the foot. We also snoozed a short one - that iniated the collapse - and then (from memory) we fluffed a receipt at Hull too (Dec ?)

Practice them.

I guess they are not a big problem for SP atm so he is concentrating on other aspects of training, but he seems to be a very thorough coach (goal kicking was sorted in the off season by importing a RU kicking coach I believe) so I suppose they will get around to it at some point.

Anybody notice that we don't do kick charge downs anymore ( thank god).

I notice we were also letting Hull catch the high bombs and tackling them the second their feet touched the ground, eliminating the "tackled in the air" penalties.

Now you mention it, you are right. Don't mind putting pressure on the kicker but our previous apparent obsession with charge downs turned out to be low percentage success and high risk play.

If we stopped scoring tries, then we wouldn't have to worry about this so much.

Our defence us much tighter and moves in units so we don't shoot that unit line. The opposition aren't often in a position of attacking momentum to exercise an attacking kick anyways, more often they are so deep that their option is little else than hoist a deep kick for safety.

But yes good observation. It can only be down to defensive block unit structure.
