My take on this is that he's just playing for them outside of his Salford commitments. It would be some going for Longy to be sacked before he'd properly started his new role.

I reckon training with Salford, then training with Preston a few nights a week with his brother Karl and playing for them at weekends when it doesn't conflict with Salford duties.

No doubt he will be England's new saviour within say two weeks.
