I, for one, am glad O'Brien doesn't look to run up and down the line, he is a throwback to the old fashioned scrum half who dictated play with his passing and kicking game, along with his movement.

Still needs a couple of years to physically mature, but he looks a really good prospect to me.

Completely agree. I want to see a scrum half of this ilk come through. A lot of the British 7's in SL at the moment are just nippy support players like Burrow and Robinson, not that I'm saying these are bad players they just don't dictate the game.

A proper ball playing halfback would be great to see. Briers isn't too bad in this respect, but when you look at the likes of Thurston and Prince who are great ball handlers he pales in comparison.

Find it hilareous that every time someone comments on goulding the " gogreen " comes on argueing.. Then straight away pushing obrians name forward.. stating his try count... player of the month etc..
The only one your fooling mate is yourself... cant anyone comment on how good goulding is ??? None can deny obrians a great player, but am sure what he does on the pitch will decide wether he makes it to superleague or not....

I find it funny that if u recognise a good player l on here, someone thinks u must be related. It proved it when the gentlemen I was discussing the HB's with mentioned Goulding. suddenly he's BG senior. The debate was about halfbacks hence we discussing that. The player of the Month in June I heard was Josh Crowley the prop and well deserved from what I have seen. Don't know who won it last month you may well be right when you say Goulding as he too as I have said has played well so far this season.

Unless a player comes in making breaks and scoring tries, they generally don't last long. A good ball playing half should be going about his business quietly for much of the game, with the odd spark creating gaps for his backs, and directing his forwards around the park. Briers does this well IMO, but the likes of Burrow, Robinson etc are just not like this.

For me, a good 7 can be a quite boring player, but with the basics spot on, yet I'm not sure these kind of players are in the game, as too many people see it all about the big plays and the try scoring exploits of players.

When you watch the Aussie game, they have a fair few 7's who just do the basics, have a good kicking game and good defence, over here, ours can run. I think it takes a lot of patience to bring an old style 7 through, which the NRL clubs are prepared to do, but I'm not convinced SL clubs are.
