My dad said that Wilderspool was the one ground he genuienly was edging about going to in the 70's and part of the 80's. Walk to the ground was quite intimidating by all reports. The legging it over Bridge foot after the game
As for noise and atmosphere I think a big helping factor was probably the snooker club side, kept a lot of the sound in the ground.
All the moderators must be at the game or something.
