I don't think young Richard Myler wants to leave Salford at this time it's all down to planning for his future and of course at the end of the day it all comes down to money.
Can Salford City Reds afford him ?
Can Salford City Reds afford not to let him go ?

| It's the football scenario. Do the club sell him for a large fee or let his contract run down and lose him for nothing. No brainer.

| I think if we ( wire ) sign him, we might loan him back to you for another season to gain even more 1st team expierance. He's a gem of a player and if you do sell him, i hope you get a massive sum, he's worth it.

No chance in hell. Myler will start for whichever team he signs for.

We get a fee for him regardless - I would imagine that it will be higher if he signs for another club at the end of this season rather than at the end of his contract next year though.

| We could offer him a good salary with 2 salford players leaving this season why not offer him a good wage because there is no need to move yet hes only 19 and got years left ahead of him.

Do you really think? I dont. Look at the likes of Eastmond, Tomkins etc for proof of that. Playing for a smaller club has really aided Myler's development and he has had far more chances than youngsters at the bigger clubs get. However he is still far from the finished article and if he played for someone like Wigan he could easily get put in the reserves or be on the bench.

For the amount of money he would cost any club that does try and get him from us, I can't see him sitting in the reserves.
Eastmond and Tomkins are playing behind Long and Smith respectively which is pretty much why they aren't starting week in week out.

Do you really think that Salford would get that much because I dont. Do big clubs even want to pay a large transfer fee for him? Maybe, maybe not. However even a large fee wont be anywhere near as much as some on here seem to think. I hope you arent one of those dreamers that thinks we would get £500,000, or even half that, for him because that is just laughable.

That is what happens at big clubs. You have better players competing for positions. Smith is rubbish and he is still keeping Tomkins out. Dont be under the illusion that other clubs dont have really good youngsters, it is just that ours get more of a chance due to our thin squad and lack of quality players.

I'd be disappointed if we didn't get at the very least £150,000 for him. Considering a 29-year old Martin Gleeson went to Wigan for £100,000 plus Mathers we should be able to command more, possibly even double that. Given the hype surrounding Myler, how he's been repeatedly described as being England's future no.7 and how valuable he is to us, we're not exactly going to let him go for peanuts surely.

Tomkins is playing in his first season as a first teamer - he's not going to just come in and take the place of a player like Smith who has more experience. Similarly Eastmond at Saints isn't going to displace Sean Long. However with Long definitely leaving next season and Smith possibly on his way back home as well, we could see these two claiming the positions for themselves next year.
Myler had the luxury of being able to play a whole season in NL1 where the competition is much weaker - this would have done a lot of good for his development. I would think that after two seasons starting at scrum half in pretty much every game, 2 England caps and the possibility of him breaking into the squad for the 4 Nations, I would expect him to be starting next season for whichever side he has a contract with.

| FWIW, I thought Richie was very poor on Saturday night. Granted he is probably the best goalkicking half back SL has seen since Frano Botica and he puts in some huge hits defensively but I'd expect far more from an international No 7. His lack of back up play and creativity with ball in hand is shocking and his short kicking game in the opponent's 10m is pretty woeful. A massive club like Wire really shouldn't be wasting their hard earned money on average players like Richie Myler.

A lot of that would depend on how much it would cost to buy out the rest of his contract etc, and I think it's fair to say that Gleeson will have been on a much higher wage at Wire than Myler is at Salford.
And, for what it's worth, he's too good for Wire. Very impressive on Saturday night, I know it was against a weakened side but you've still got to do the right things, even if his family are a bit on the loopy side

| Offer him to Wigan in exchange for a bit of cash, Tomkins and the winger Ainscough I think then we are getting two very talented youngsters and have a bit of cash to invest in salaries for the rest of the good youngsters we have.
They wont go for it but not a bad idea for me.

I wouldnt be too fussed on either of those 2 players. Tomkins is overated and Ainscough is a liability. I think they would be poor playing in our team. If they really wanted Myler we could push for much better players than that.

Agreed but you're also taking into account how old they are - if Myler turns out to be as good as he's been billed as then you're set for a scrum half for over 10 years whereas some would argue that Gleeson is past his prime. If we do resolve to sell Myler early then we should be highlighting this sort of thing to try and push the fee as high as possible.
