| Quote ="Yorkshire_Red"Bingo for me mate.
Yes it's easy to have a go at the ref & TBH I thought we had some very soft pens against us today. However, we also consistently infringed the rules of the game & surprise, surprise if you consistently break the laws of the game you'll consistently get penalised.
It's very easy to start calling for McRae's head after a performance as dreadful as the one that 40/50 of us had to endure this afternoon, however (and I can't believe I'm leaping to his defence here) I fail to believe that his tactics were for our players to consistently give away soft penalties. =#FF0000Nor do I believe that he instructed our team to become ineffectual in defence whenever HKR came within 10 metres of our line. The challenge for him now is to prove to us that now he has a squad with a bit of talent about it that he can take today's horror-show & make sure that we don't have to witness it again.
On a personal level, my partner has pointed out to me how much money I would have spent today & how much better we could have spent that on our daughter's impending arrival. Sadly, she's absolutely right but my point was that this was a vital game to see in order to gauge how close we are in being able to compete in 2 weeks time when the serious business starts. I only hope that I'm completely wrong & our daughter arrives in May to see a Salford side that IS capable of competing at the right half of the table. After the debacle I witnessed today I very seriously doubt it sadly.'"
For me there is a statement we will be repeating far to often this season, granted Alker retired so there was little we could do about that but to release Swain our other tackling machine was pure folly for me, I've know doubt at all this season we will offer much more in the way of attack but I do worry that we will leak points more than the past couple of seasons.
I also agree that SM is highly unlikely to be at the club come the start of next season, I've always thought that we will find a marque coach to usher in the new era, let's just hope that there is no damage done by poor season this year.

| It's not 'Practice makes perfect', but 'PERFECT Practice that makes perfect'. Our performances in the friendly fixtures have been far from perfect.
It's no good blaming the Referee, our Team are undiciplined and there is simply no excuse for gobbing off at the Ref' no matter how frusted players may become. Although our players are RESPONSIBLE, the Head Coach is ACCOUNTABLE. (Big difference). I can't see that SM has been held accountable for many of our Team's weaknesses whilst he's been in charge.
It is a fact that these warm up games have left our fans fearing the worst. We have signed some excellent players and put additional Coaches in place. If we lose in Cardiff, the morale of our fans will be pretty low to say the least.
I am not expecting miracles this year, but I do expect our Team to be competitive in all our fixtures and give us something to shout about. Our expectations have been raised, and the Coach has to make sure we achieve our potential. If we end up in the bottom two or three again, he simply has to go.
COME ON YOU REDS, I'll be there through thin and thick as usual!

| Well that's it Friendly's over. Its now all down to the real thing and if I'm being honest I've not been impressed by what I've seen (not surprised though) 4 games and 1 win in pre season, The loss against Leigh was poor and even though we had loads of kids playing its still not an excuse. If you look at the rest of the super teams who have played an even younger team they have beat championship opposition. The Wigan game at times were good and against Swinton we were okish in parts. The Kr game for me is a bit of blessing in disguise, hopefully this will now bring everyone back down to earth and maybe people will start to listen to what I've said all along we are no where near a top 8 team yet!!
Anyway after saying all that I still don't think its time to panic every new team needs time to gel and with so many changes we all need to accept that maybe we will take a little longer than others. Positives from the games so far are for me the performances of Ratchford, Clay and young Jack Holmes. I just hope we can book up in the next couple of weeks and go and grab a win at Cardiff, if we do I think will this breath a little more confidence throughout the team and hopefully we'll go ok. For me the most worrying thing is the amount of penalties we have been giving away in the games so far we really need to cut this out if we are going to stand any chance at all.

I think there is another way of looking at the Alker & Swain loss. The reason these two players have done so much tackling is due to the amount of tackling required by the team over the past two years. For instance St Helens made approx 1000 less tackles last year which equates to about 6 full sets per game. The problem for me isn't about not having two tackling machines it's about not having enough possesion and doing too much defending.

| "I don't quite know what to make of us. I'm glad it's a trial, but at the same time, it's not the best performance for us to go into the start of the competition with" Shaun Macrae quoted after the game.
He doesn't quite know what to make of us!............hardly inspires you with confidence does it.

| After going to the game yesterday and having time to reflect, I must say we were nothing short of awful, forwards got dominated (again) and the amount of penalties we gave away was beyond a joke. Yes Childs wasn't the best but for the obvious penalties we did give away it I didn't get the constant shouting of "its only a friendly ref" friendly or not rules are rules if we cant get away with it in the league then there's no reason why we should in a friendly. We need to learn to cut these out if we are to get anywhere near a top 8 finish.
Some of the posts on here had bin exactly what I expected and as in my post on another topic, if we loose at MM then people are going to start getting on the players back after one game (sad I know) as ive stated previously some people are expecting to much.
Overall of the Friendly's we have played, I was happy with the Wigan game, KR & Leigh were awful and Swinton well it wasn't the best was it.
On the McRae situation I think his tactics are a joke, Fekka hasn't ran onto the ball from deep as he should be doing, and the one move we have where holdsworth passes it around the back to Patten (last season Fitzy) is ok if we don't do it on every set and have a few more runners for the defence to choose from, You could tell yesterday KR had pin pointed Patten and when he did get the Ball he was closed down straight away. Just a bit more variety would be nice.
Now we have all had a bit of a moan, lets remember we havent lost any points yet and look forward to MM. And lets get behind the team for the last season at the willows.

| I don't buy into all this it's only a friendly rubbish, as has been said winning is a habit, one our side don't know to much about.
Leigh beat us, Wigan dare I suggest were in a lower gear, Swinton well don't get carried away Swinton fans, Salford may have put you into a false sense with a substandard performance, and to top it off a mullering at KR.
Also how damaging is a result like this when in the last season the club are pushing for bums on seats, whilst getting hammered and putting the admission up, ? we all know how apathetic the Salford public are at the best of times.
I wonder just what Justin Morgan is thinking today about his sides fortunes, as opposed to the thoughts of our "head coach".
In two weeks time when we play the Welsh it is a must win, I mean have they even got a team together ? If we don't beat them then who will we beat ?
Or maybe we are holding some secrets back and all will be rosy.

Our outside backs are getting exposed too easily. Something to work and improve on in training over the next two weeks I think.

| Some observations about some of the try's we conceeded.
Try 1 - The Hull KR number 12 seems to obstruct Holdsworth leaving Gleeson with a one on one tackle to make. Should have made a better effort with the tackle.
Try 2 - The Hull KR loose forward has his arms around Nero before pushing him over (Off the ball) leaving a one on one with Ratchford who didn't have the upper body strength to stop the try.
[i* Amusing that ref Child's didn't see either of the above despite appearing to penalise us every opportunity he could.[/i
Try 4 - Not enough pressure on Dobson to stop him making a decent grubber kick.
Try 5 & 6 - Jodie Broughton rushing off the touchline leaving space for Fox out wide.
Try 7 - Didn't get back and reorganise quickly enough after the previous break, leaving an overlap.

Lets hope the likes of Adamson and Wild remain fit then as I think if we we don't retain possession and give away silly penalties, these two will be under added pressure.

| I know it's easy for me to say, but I wouldn't worry too much about this game. Child is an absolute joke and you had no chance with him in the middle. You've made some good signings this season and it's always going to take time to gel, as it does with most teams. Honestly you lot should draw a line under it and forget about it.

Agree with this. Friendlies mean very little but the one positive is that those who fell for all the spin from the club will hopefully have re adjusted their expectations.

| As mentioned by other fans, Childs was rubbish though. Rovers were the better team, but I think you may have done better with a different official in charge.

| Ok lets look at what cr@p as come from SM mouth regarding this display:
“I thought the opposition were pretty good, they looked well-drilled (so we are not?) and kept good shape, so they were always going to be a threat.
“I don't quite know what to make of us (heard this before does not have answers, il tell you what to make of it terrible). I'm kind of glad it's a trial, but at the same time, it's not the best performance for us to go into the start of the competition with(starting off with dip in confidence).”
Sorry to say this before a SL ball is kicked but TAXI for Mcrae !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fans are entitled to have a whinge but I agree it's now starting to get really silly this. Reading moan after moan from the same posters on different threads is becoming rather tedious to say the least.
