It was for a while, and I think it was a good thing. Purely for selfish reasons that we can waltz into The Shed just before kick-off. It was becoming the case that Leeds and Hull got in there early and took it over.

| :O No freakin way. When going gets tough, the tough get going... And besides, we have more than enough "young bucks" in our ranks, myself included I guess, who merely need some leadership and guidance... That's where the old guard come in! We can't possible leave the new generation in charge of the remaining time we have in the shed. TIME FOR ACTION ME THINKS!

Hmm. Still reckon it'd be great if they came back. I mean, it's not like we don't have the room for a few away fans is it? (I bet the club are squiriming at this suggestion. Don't worry, I can't see it happening somehow.)

| For me the shed needs to get more intimidating like it used to be. Lets give it to the away team when they come on the field for the warm up, give it them when they leave, they won't want to come out again and when they do then give it them again for the start of the game. We can do this as well as getting behind our team, for me the shed now is more hostile towards our own players than the opposition and it shouldn't be like that. We need to make teams hate coming to the willows like they used to. The atmosphere needs to start before the players even come out because believe me you can here the fans in the dressing room I've been in there. Remember the Boulevard? No one liked going there, the hull fans got on top of the away team straight away and got behind their own team at the same time often putting visiting teams off. I'm not saying lets all become a bunch of thugs for from it, but atmosphere for me isn't all about singing nicely nicely songs about your team thats only part of it, its also about having banter with visiting supporters/teams.
Imagine the Bradford team running out to a torrent of hostile boo's on a cold February evening I'm sure they could think of better places to be. Then when Salford come onto the pitch everyone getting behind the team and showing some true passion. Then at the end of the game even if we get beat we can say "fair enough, we were beaten by a better team" But, we as Salford fans have still given it everything to put them off and get behind our own lads at the same time.

I'd welcome it if they just stuck to the right side.
I also remember a bottle throwing incident from the right side accelerating the start of segregation.

| A few points, FWIW...........
TR - [i"At salford over the last three years there has been a right side of the shed, and a left hand of the shed"[/i
Well let's all move into the middle then (where some of us still stand) and join forces. At OT you'll often find a chant started in K stand that dies on it's ar$e by the time it reaches the SE. From what I can tell we're all in agreement that SOME of the central shed dwellers are the problem. There doesn't appear to any beef between the left and the right sides so let's all cuddle up in the middle and the non-singers can inhabit the flanks.
JJ - [i"I'm a bit old for singing at games"[/i
Lame excuse gramps . Have you seen some of the old farts knocking out a choon on "Songs of Praise"? I'm a great believer that your voice gets better with age so loosen them vocal chords man!
The Op - [i"we'd all usually make fools out of ourselves at one point but we all laughed with each other and nobody laughed at anyone else expense regardless"[/i
Spot on. I remember trying to start a chant in the San Siro in '99. Believe me, I'm no Pete Boyle and when my first effort went down like a lead balloon for a couple of minutes I felt like a right tw*t! Maybe it was the beer inside me that persuaded me to have another go but lo and behold 5 minutes later the whole end joined me in a rousing rendition of "Keano's f*ckin magic". Still one of my proudest moments to this day.
[i"The only thing we lacked in the past was numbers, at the moment its enthusiam and numbers, its up to us the supporters to grab the bull by the horns and drag the match day experience forward to where it was and even higher"[/i
Exactly. 150 Salford fans belting out "Oh when the Reds...." or 13,000 Pie fans chanting "Wiiiigan, Wiiiigan."?No brainer.
BF - [i"I think it's hilarious when the "Yorkshire, Yorkshire" chant from the Leeds fans in the North Stand is met with a resounding "Baaaa" from the shed - long may it continue"[/i
Agreed. Bad language/prejudice(in the loosest sense ) has it's place in sport (in moderation). Most normal human beings know where to draw the line and a bit of "banter" about Yorkshire/Humberside/Merseyside/Wales has it's place. Sport is tribal and as long as fans know where to draw the line a bit of un-political correctness is fine by me. If fans want a lifeless dump fook off to the DW/Galpharm . If/when we move to Barton we need to take some of The Shed's "soul" with us otherwise it's just gonna be another soulless steel pit
And as my MLK quote touched so many hearts yesterday here's my thought for the day..............
=#FF0000[iIs it Right or Wrong?
Try to Find a Place!
We can all Belong...
'Be As One'
Try to Get on By #
If we unify?
We should really Try![/i
Sweet Harmony, The Beloved

| Quote ="Iain"I think the circumstances mentioned here come back to the inappropriate timing that KOTS mentioned. There has been a tendency to sing songs at dumb times: "We all hate...." at a time when we need to be getting behind our own team; "oh, w*nky w*nky" as the "w*nk" team run in their 8th try against us (how w*nk does that make us?); "score more tries" when we're defending; "you're not singing any more" when we're 2 points up and inevitably going to have to defend our line for the last five minutes; "easy, easy" when we take a 10-0 lead after 12 minutes
My main gripe is the concentration on abusing the opposition at a key stage ion teh game when we need to be getting behind Salford. I'm all for witty put downs in songs and having a good atmosphere, but it's got a bit too much like "well, we can't say we're better than you, we can't think of anything funny, so we're just going to tell you to f*ck off".'"
Good call.
I also feel that we don't abuse the referees often enough.

They were quite capable of banning people last season following certain incidents. I'm not sure why the same action can't be taken again?

Some of the more moronic new shed dwellers could to some be intimidating, I'd not be too happy if I had a son taking him in the there with some of the lashed up idiots and their antics.
Let's face it the shed has long since lost it's mojo, not personally got a clue how to get it back - though think it's probably gone for good.

| Quote ="Red Preacher"Amen to that brother... But how do we stop/overide the less desirable members of the shed who make the rest of us look bad and ultimately spoil things for us?!'"
To be honest fella, they are totally rudderless when it comes to organising what to sing and when to sing it (they are like a mini warrington in a way bang a drum and ill they chant in time to the beat) and when they get bored and there is no atmosphere and thats when the abuse starts with "all hate scousers clap your hands" and the like, its a nothing song, a song fans will join in along to the same as do with a "SALFORD...SALFORD" chant.
They sing something positive or about salford back them, if they sing something negative or abusive or random leave them to hang themselves, it should work both ways as getting the atmosphere back in the shed is a two way street it wont take that long for them to notice what’s going on and im sure they will do the same as we all want our game day experience to improve
We work together and after a bit you can play on it a bit “left side give us a song?” ect its with any relationship ground rules need to be set.
Quote ="king of the shed"Very valid point fella thinking back to the Hull FC and Leeds "encounters" in the Shed in the past.'"
The atmoshpere back in them days were electric from both sides as both went for it, in the main it was all lads together and pure testoterone, when we scored having to duck as bottles of pee came flying over from the leeds or Hull side of the shed.
Times have changed now tho and we cant expect to attract families to watch salford stand in a United shed and get behind the team if they think they will get smashed with a bottle as they probably wont come back.
I wouldnt want my wife or child to get caught up in a Salford/Hull/Leeds shed tear up from yesteryear.
There is enough people on here and stood in the shed who want to make it happen and get the atmosphere back, it might take a bit longer than it would if leeds or hull invaded our end but i think a start is needed.
As for banning people on club coaches cant they put stewards on the bus, keep them all in check, the worrying thing is in a couple of years they will have figured out they can get to away games on a train just as cheap and they will be drinking in the same pubs as us all day rather than just for 80 mins 1 every 2 week.

I know light a few flares run into the middle of them, throw the flares on the pitch, depart ninja style, then we'll all say we saw them do it.
simples
On a further note its just not the usual pink cowboy hat brigade dishing out the vulgarity. There now seems to be a group of young lads and a few girlies ( if you can call them that) stood on the stairs just to the side of "the numpty group" who seem to be trying to take over the mantle the numpty group has started. Some of the chants and comments coming from them were just plain wrong. I actually felt ashamed that my 2 boys had to listen to it and really was thinking of moving away from them. But why should I have to move?
Anyway to get things rocking again lets get a "McRae for england" chant going he might think we love him again, then fingers crossed he might get the job and "do one!" leaving us to find a new person to shout at
Lets also start getting some of the older stuff going again. We've lost a lot of the ironic humour in the shed over the past few years. As others have said some of that stuff used to really make you laugh at times.
Who's for a bit of STAND UP IF YOU LOVE SALFORD, sit down if you love salford. That was a laugh
