| Quote ="Hillbilly_Red"Thanks to those Reds sat near me who made the weekend so enjoyable.
I'm sure you know that you can experience that @ The Willows...........and certainly more often than once a year
Thanks to all RL fans for showing how the Rugby League family works.
Go on then....how does it "work"
Thanks to Edinburgh - a fine town with excellent pubs.
I think you'll find that it's actually a city
Thanks to RL - trying out experiments to show what we have to offer.
They keep trying, and the status quo remains
A success as we moved away from the M62 (heresy) and showed entertaining games (anathema) featuring colourful fans enjoying themselves (blasphemy) in a national venue (evil). And your point is
Apologies to the frequent posters on here as I am not being negative in the post. I understand that this is difficult for many of you but ...
you can give up moaning, belittling, and carping.'" Everyone is entitled to their opinion....just like you
I didn't go, cos I didn't fancy it. The idea of watching 7 RL games within the space of 36 hours, whilst sat on my bum in a quarter full stadium, paying over the odds for crap ale and poor food just doesn't appeal. I've seen plenty of fantastic cities across the world, and whilst I have yet to sample Edinburgh, I'm sure it is one of the best. However, trying to soak up the atmosphere whilst mingling with 60k other RL fans isn't my idea of a city break.
And as for SKY's coverage........well there was hardly anything of Edinburgh shown, or how the fans were enjoying themselves outside the stadium.
A failure, and a waste of time................... in my opinion.

I've got to notice that the general feeling is posotive on the other bords (not entirely but generaly).
Seems a bit strange to me that Salford fans made one of the poorest showings compared to other clubs and they seem to be the ones that didn't enojoy it as much? I wonder if people would have enjoyed it more if there were a few more reds there?
Also they want your feedback to make the event better next year.. I think this is the link (i stole if off the cas board)

| I enjoyed it next time i'm going to pick a hotel a bit closer dunfermline was a bit far away, hotel was ace though town was brill lots of little bars, I thought the stadium was a bit steep to get to your seat, I nearly fell back down the stairs twice, and when the game started from where i was sat the stadium looked empty, (west 20) thought chegggers was a tit where was the entertainment, all i saw was a couple of dancers at the begining and some idiot doing back flips, and when the fire works went off I nearly crapped my self god they were high, overall it was ok really I wont be getting seats in the west stand next year and I will be getting a hotel in edinburgh it seems I missed out on a lot of stuff, although I have been to edinburgh a few times in the past, but I did go in the pub before the match outside the stadium, the one with the barby and the bagpipe player, the beer was very expensive just like in the stadium , but the atmosfear was great, looking forward to next year will make a weekend of it next time and bring the familiy.

To be fair it seems strange that you will pay £1000 for a football season ticket (including cup games) and £40+ for away games to be 'surrounded by corporates' yet will complain at £7.50 to watch Salford in Edinburgh.

Yep, and using excuses for transport and accommodation costs is rubbish, I went from Wednesday to Monday and including train/accommodation and match ticket it cost me individually £120.50, ok I had food and drink to buy whilst there but would have had to do similar at home. Edinburgh is only as expensive as a night out in Manchester and you only need spend what you can afford whist there, fast food is the same price as anywhere else and so are the supermarkets, most entertainment in Edinburgh is free i.e. museums and art galleries. I got to see paintings by Van Gogh, Monet, Frans Halls and Rembrant scot free (excuse the pun)! The transport system is second to none, a bus cost £1.20 for any distance and a day ticket is a mere £3.00. The scenery is free too
For mine the only people who are complaining are either those who didnt go, those who just went for the game or those who would have nothing more to say had we actually won the game who would have been upset they missed it had that happenned.
Nobody is forcing anyone to go and watch them play in Edinburgh or anywhere else, if you dont fancy it, cant afford it, think its a scam, think the RFL/Sky are to blame so be it. Sh[ii[/it happens

It did yes, but for some reason some of you are finding any other reason for 'the event' not to be held. FWIW I too think its a rubbish idea, I didn't go to Cardiff as I thought the same then, however some of the excuses for not going are far too fetched. Some people believe the Champions League is in a similar vein but it goes from strength to strength (not comparable with RL, however, opinions are divided). Face facts its now on the RL calandar for the considerable future and whinging about it isn't going to change that its already been and gone this year................Was it a success?, no maybe not for the whole of RL but some clubs picked up an extra two points so I suppose they beleive that they had some success on the field, the media coverage is better than none atall, success there then?, and the place where it was staged was a major success in terms of somewhere to visit. Depends really on how you define success I guess?

| isn't wining the game and claiming two points success on the field, If your team don't win then no, but it was a success in bringing all the teams and supporters together in one place to have a good time, I didn't see one argument between fans you can't say that about football

As I have said before the success was for the Scottish Tourist Board.
It is a extra game we just do not need.
Lets get the Sky money, stadium charges, steward costs and everything else involved with the Magic Weekend to be spent on the grass roots. Get kids into the sport so we may one day in my life time win a series against Australia.
That is what I would call a success.

But people got cheap transport up on a par with a normal away game. Also a day saver ticket there was just £3. Thats not alot now is it.
Hotel prices were'nt that bad you could camp for £15 theres a YHA in Edinburgh which I bet is also cheap. You just need to use a bit of foward planning
Nope no body has actually said that fancy dress is a plus point, but people having fun is.

There are. What there isn't is 7 sl league games in one venue for only £20. And i would presume up until the MM weekend non in scotland for possible scottish supporters of SL to watch.

| At last the debate starts - carping has gone.
Aside - Prestwich Red - my argument is based on a belief that SL aims include "developing the game" (so magic weekends do meet that criteria- but we argue against this way as a lost cause), "raising participation levels" (again the same).
If you do not accept the aims of the club/group/organistion you join - then you should leave. So do we deserve to stay in SL?
I gave up my determination not to be part of this board as mature opinions were on display in this post.
My attitude to the weekend was one of incredible pride. No other sport could have done the same.
As we know, Newcastle want it for 2011.
I agree on pricing but saved up for this one - I'll now save up for more. I want to be part of any promotion of Rugby League. And, believe me, I fully support the weekend. I pray for a time when all kids are exposed to Rugby League.

| Got to admit i had a fantastic time.Went up on the Friday with the wife. It was only the 3rd time she has been to the rugby. Her first game was Manly vs Parra 2nd the opening of Leighs ground and now Edinburgh. She enjoyed it that much she fancies a weekend away for the Celtic game! Came home on the Sunday via a jib into Hamilton races. Already looking forward to next year!

Sorry Hillbilly Red but this post has totally confused me.
It appears at best to be a mish mash of gibberish
I said the money spent on the Weekend would have been best used on youth development, which surely promotes the sport , and I think somewhere in the mist you do agree to this.
In the end though you do say I should go if I do not support the ideals of the Great God that is Red Hall, RL and SCRRLFC.
That is where I will leave this debate as I am obviously not worthy.
Final point, fookin Newcastle 2011 cant wait for that
