The three years (so far) at Salford have seen no progress whatever
'"
That's the thing. Technically speaking he HAS made year on year progress, two years of which he had the Super League's smallest budget for players.
Perhaps not enough progress but I suppose that's subjective.
I'd like to know what his remit for the season is?
My personal belief was that I'd like to see (or not see) 3 things this year.
1) Competing with and deafeating the mid-table teams on a more regular basis.
2) No drubbings.
3) 24 league points (4 of which should be a given considering the plight of Wakefield)
So that's criterion number 2 failed already. Criterion 1 possibly/probably and criterion 3, well, looking slightly less likely than 1210 yesterday.

I'd hazard a guess that when Wayne Bennett said that he didn't have to go back 15 years to recall the last time anyone was impressed with his work.

Granted, he'd won a couple of things in the previous five years or so. (Although I do agree with the statement on a broader level. Self-assessment is far more relevant.)

| I am in my 6th year as a lecturer and you know what, I learn something new everyday, i develop different teaching strategies to engage and instill knowledge into my charges, I also have to complete a minimum of 30 hours of continuous professional development each year to keep my teaching licence. So I have to improve year on year to be at the cutting edge of new ideas and techniques to be able to do my job, I am not allowed to become stale. McRae may be in his 16th year but he has not continually been coaching and I doubt he has been on any refresher course since he want back to Aus to coach Souths to two seasons at the bottom of the table.
For me he has been too long at our club and if he stays I may not bother wasting my time watching, I have a form to complete for next seasons ticket, I may not bother now, because I can not see us improving while McRae is there even Simms, they are driving fans away and the new stadium will be like a roulette bowl with just a ball in rolling around.

| Heard this I am completely appalled. As iv stated before at the FR meetings the players expressed their lack of respect for SM what does this tell you? But why do we waste our time voicing our views he will be here all year! He should of gone a long long time ago.
We are currently the laughing stock of SL with SM in charge I'm very surprised he didn't stay behind to commentate on the Leeds Bradford game?
Sack Simms and SM and bring in a world class coach surely with new stadium etc we will be able to have the pull of a high class course, noble yes (but only for a short term fix) but I'd like to see a more younger dynamic coach.
As stated before Alker not good enough needs learn off a better coach, and don't get me started on vievers defence coach ?? Shipped in 80 plus points in last 2 games against a half decent team and a mid table team, what happens when we are going to play the real big guns?
Rant over

| So he does not care what we think of our Great Club what we say or even think.
In fact what do we know.
Arrogant Ozzie pr!ck
A 42-12 embarrassment and he is not bothered what the fans who pay towards his overinflated salary think.
Sounds like the comments of a man looking for a way out.
We can only hope so.

| He won't walk he's not got the decency plus he knows this is his last coaching job and so holding on for dear life. Il not boo the players but if sub standard performance happens again I want a protest against SM we have top class players and this should be a year of excitement so we need to sort out before it gets to late!!!!!

| i think Mcrae is an absolute , embarrassing joke to Salford City reds rlfc. I only wish his coaching skills were as good as his arrogance. If money is an issue to get rid of him , perhaps we should just tell him to stay away from All the club affairs ( perhaps even just suspend him for his dire outburst) untill further notice. Im in my 25th year now of supporting our mighty reds , these should be exciting times for our great club (new stadium) etc but never have i felt so pssied off with such an ass trying to run the show. This guy has no respect for both our club or our most well respected chairman. Get rid now sir JW , before its too late.

| for me its two things
The players obviously dont repect him much, he puts the plan in place and the players cant or wont follow the plan to the letter.
The players seem mentally very fragile wether that is a coaching thing or down to the the players indivdual not willing to improve this part of their game i feel its probably a bit of both as i watched most of the games this week and other teams look so fluent in the way they play the game .
Mcrae plays percentage rugby he always has, it wins you games if done right but its not going to win you fans, he thought that the players he has had at his nal (ie alker, littler, fitzy people purchased by other coaches before him) wernt up up to the tasks but he has had to play this way to get though.
This season comes the old guard have gone replaced with a better quality of player and this team is virtually his own so why continue to play so negatively? why continue to play dumb rugby?
The whole shape of the team is wrong when attacking its far too flat and narrow can we blame mcrae for this? or do we blame the players for stealing a few yards so they dont have to run as far to get into position, it getting harder to get message onto the field with water carriers being banned and stuff so the players must take some responsibility for the moves that they put on.
its one of my bug bears watching player mince around in back play instead of getting into position, i know your tired, i know you need a breather but you can earn a rest by, causing the opposion to give away a penality, scoring a try, kicking a 40/20 or causing an apponent to knock on then you can get a good 40 seconds "Rest" waiting for a scrum to form.
Usually it takes 3 or 4 tackles of one man one out rugby to get everyone where they should be 4th tackle if we dont get a significant gain its a punt down field, a superleague team should "set" a move up in 2 tackles max.
its all very pedestrian it needs more flow to it, mcrae needs to let the players express themselves and mentally the players need to be better, both sides work together they can achieve

| As I can't listen to the clip for some reason I'll take your word for it being an accurate quote.
If it is I'd suggest that Mr Wilkinson will be having very strong words with SM and that he will be lucky not to be asked to consider his position as head coach, even if this is what he is genuinely thinking as a media professional he should know better than to react in that kind of way.
Maybe this is the first signs that he knows he's living on borrowed time and hopefully that there is pressure being put on him from within the club.

| It was 6:30 in the morning when they played the interview clip, I hadn't really woken up and I wasn't sure I'd heard it correctly.
I'd spent most of sunday on a supporters coach , we'd sent 4 full coaches of supporters down + a coach privately hired by a group of fans , We'd gone down to Cardiff full of hope & expectation and pretty much brought back to earth by our dismal & inept performance .
when I listened out for the promised interview the minimum I expected was some comment apologising to all the fans who had made the effort only to witness such a display.
I'm still in a state of shock not just at the performance , but also the coaches comments .
If I'd transplanted his comments to the business world.
I'm a sales manager ,
My business has imade a substantial investment in staff , the business has struggled for 3-4 vears with me in control . but have seen little or no improvement from initial results .
My report to the board of directors and the companies shareholders is - i don't care what you think or believe about the company or me , - I have been a manager for 16 years , and you don't understand...
does anybody think I would still be a manager of this company by the end of the day ??

| You might be if the company had to pay you off instead of you walking.
It seems to me mcraes bottle has gone and is panicing that he might be given the boot because of his negative and poor performance, when do we usually sack coaches 6mths to go on their contract? Can the club afford to wait that long ? Do we have a replacement already sorted? Do we go for a noble, Millward or a cullen? Somebody with a good reputation will they be willing to take the poison challice on where so many have failed.?
Or will we end up with john Harvey mark 2?

| It sounds to me like a statement from a man who knows that the clock is ticking. I'm sure he's aware that our performance was the worst of any team that weekend. Highlighted more by the fact that we are one of the teams people are looking forward to seeing play. SM is one of the most media savvy coaches out there. To come out with a statement like that surely shows that the cracks are starting to show and he's feeling the pressure.
After all the first thing you do when your in the is you get all defensive. He was probably up all night filling sandbags.

Just the 1 play then? Would that be the 2 attempts at short kickoffs one after the other. Or the quick short drop under the sticks. Or the dummy chip and run only to then chip and run through.
I think he needs to re watch the game again

Just one ? I counted 5
the chipped Kick off ~ used 3 times at least
the Grubber kick into our dead ball line , used plenty
the short kick from their posts to regather ~used once
The scrum half chip & collect over our flat defense tried at least once
the show and go , inside step , Witt used twice and walked through the defensive line
with his 16 years of coaching experience he'll be able to add plenty more
.. the " play - it Cautious ' used in every game over the past 4 years

3,000 supporters a tenner each - there's 30 grand and as a gift it would be tax free
Where do I send my cheque?

| [iALL our head-coach has got to do now is get a win this coming Friday evening against the mighty St Helens..
Losing is a terrible habit in any sport and sooner or later the first thing any clubs do is sack the coach.
Will Salford City Reds show Mr McRae the door?
In my opinion the Reds will wait until July before making any changes it will all come down to the franchise bid I'm afraid.[/i
