| They already present themselves as the peak of a pyramid of "rugby" in the north-west. So very probably. I'll keep my ears open as I work spitting distance from Stockport's ground.

I thought Leeds,Sheffield,Bradford and Liverpool had a greater population than Manchester.

Pev doesn't mention Population , I guess just prestige? the office of National Statistics list Manchester the 3rd most popular City after London & Edinburgh.
the area known as Greater Manchester's population is 2.6 Million .
North West Sharks sounds rubbish , I guess they cannot use the 'Manchester' tag , as Manchester RUFC formed earlier than Sale in 1860 would be unimpressed .

Read the section on sport to see why Salford have such an uphill battle. The rest of the site suggests why the conurbation will be had for any one non-established club to crack.

St Helens have two massive premiership football teams to contend with. They've an uphill battle too and still manage top crowds.

| Are you suggesting they're not. Put it this way, both of them are in the top 4 best supported clubs in the north west, and liverpool is the 2nd best supported in england possibly uk.

| St.Helens is a traditional rugby league town with a great and successful history of winning trophies on a regular basis - Salford isn't
I think you'll find that's why they have higher crowds bud

| I don't think the comparison with Saints is entirely fair. St Helens being further away from either Liverpool football club than Salford is from either Manchester club surely has an effect. There are a lot of Salfordians who live closer to Old Trafford than to the Willows, and now a lot more who live closer to Old Trafford than the new stadium.
In addition, Salford have got the biggest football club in Britain - possibly the biggest in Europe - on our doorstep and, to make matters worse, the second biggest club in Britain even closer - just the other end of the Trafford Road swing bridge, in fact.

Is that where the blue seats came from? Were they going cheap because some never got used at the Etihad?

| Haven’t read the whole thread so apologies if this has already been said, but…..
My wife was in a meeting on Wednesday and was speaking to one of the big wigs from Sale,
They said that nothing has been agreed about a move to Barton but discussions have been going on too long for it not to be a preferred destination for our lovely union brothers and sisters.
Look out for Pimm’s on draught in the coming weeks!

| I still cannot see why there is any concern about a rugby union club.
Wigan and their chairman have gone out of their way to embrace a rugby union relationship.
I am slightly curious as to the response from Sale supporters towards their CEO's.
There appears to be some animosity towards David Tarry from some Salford fans, yet he has never flitted between union and league clubs like Mick Hogan, not attempted to deceive the anti-doping agency as Rule did at Hull FC,and he isn't facing disciplinary like the incoming Sale CEO - [url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_union/16531680.stmLink[/url

They had a champion team on their doorstep who needed investment to continue at the top: now playing at a local school after Mr Whelan "developed" Orrell.
