| Quote ="theredshed"Does anyone think this shocking performance could have anything to do with the fact 50% of the squad are likely to be booted out of the door at the end of the season? Yes you can blame some poor ref's decisions but I think it's a lot deeper than that. If you were working somewhere and you knew you wasn't wanted anymore would you honestly put 100% effort and commitment in to it? Could it be a case that pressing agents have now told their players there will be no new contract offer from the club? If it was 3 or 4 players not being retained then I'd imagine the rest would pull them through but when its virtually half or more of the seventeen then its a different story.
All I can say is i'd rather go through the pain of an embarrasing result like today now with less to play for than next year if it means we will have better quality players and more commited team.
Maybe it's an ideal time to blood some youngsters now!'"
Even if they are out the door, surely by putting in a good performance on the pitch they'd be be putting themselves in the shop window for another team to offer them a contract.
Today showed yet again that McRae can't motivate the team against crap opposition. We always seem to put in good performances against the so-called top sides, either losing in a brave fight or pulling off a victory with a great performance. Yet, when we come up against a team in the bottom half of the table we manage to look clueless. Even when we do win we manage to scrape through, looking more likely to gift the game to the opposition.

| Can't believe I'm defending McRae but does anyone think that his gameplan for today was to tell the players to miss tackles on a consistent basis & to be completely ineffectual on the rare occasions that we had the ball. No? Then maybe, just maybe, today the players were guilty of having a mare.

If you play for a club in the bottom 3 and your not being offered a new contract are other Superleague clubs going to be interested? The only shop window these players will put themselves in is the National League's where i'd imagine they'd have to take a 75% cut in wages! Not exactly a huge motivation is it?

| To me it was obvious that the out of contract players were making up the numbers. From the bunch appearing I would guess that Gibson, Jodie, Stef, Smith, Cashmere, Boyle (who had a mare), Sid (injured), Luke (going the wrong way defo) will be with us next time. Totally agree that the young uns be drafted in immediately until the end of the season which cannot come soon enough.

| Quote ="redgunner"I am trying to give a measured response, first the positives, Salford fans who turned up, there were as many Salford fans as crusader fans! Cashmere & Matty Smith were the only two who should actually collect there pay cheque.
Why do we promise so much then against a team around us produce a performance like that, it would be easy to blame the ref who was shocking but we were worse.
For me this is what is wrong with the present structure, no relegation, no pride in some of the players, looks to me like some of the players have been told they don't have a contract next season.
Willie Talau sending him packing now, Fitz had a mare, Alker, looked a shadow of is former self, Luke Swain now going through the motions, Parker finished, weak defence on the right hand side, Ratchford not match fit, J. Smith indiscipline, Adamson looks to be going backwards at present, no punch in attack, what a waste of £20 plus travelling
What really vexed me off is Salford fans turned out in there numbers today & we let them down again, no excuses please!
Our coach Shaun McRae to top it off on our way home & listening to GMR we listened to his post match on the way home, 3 years into a contact & all he could say is he did not have a clue why they played like lemons, at no other super league club would this coach still be in a job!'"
The fact is, should he even have a clue on how we got beat that heavily against a side of our level?

I'm not a Mcrae fan, but I don't see any reason why a coach has to run about on the park with the players. I'd highly doubt that Wayne Bennett does that with the team currently sat top of the NRL. I'm more concerned with our apparent inability to be "up" for games against the lower teams than how physical the coach gets in training.
At the end of the day, Mcrae has never done much in his career with "weak" teams (he's certainly no John Kear), but we're highly unlikely to pay him off so we've got to hope that he can get better results with a likely stronger squad next year.

I hate to be a pedant matey but Wayne Bennett most probably does have a run about with the players. He had a certain degree of notoriety for distance running with the players when at Brisbane. However, I'm pretty sure Craig Bellamy, Jack Gibson or Phil Gould (3 highly successful coaches in the NRL) run about with the players thus validating your point. I'd certainly love to find out why the players appear to have a different mentality for games such as today as opposed to games such as last week.

It's a very good point, but for a small number of games over the past two years we seem to lose virtually every 4 pointer by some margin! Could be some kind of sports psychology thing like Wire always losing to Saints!

Precisely. Without a shadow of doubt it comes down to the psyche of the players. If only the club could afford a shrink!

| Just hope we take a good following to Huddersfield, we usually always do and make a top atmosphere their, in recent memory we actually usually out sing Huddersfield, the best away game for me I think, just think today would of pushed a lot of people away from going Huddersfield.

| Yesterday was embarrassing. There's no other word for it. We were a shambles. For me only Ray Cashmere came out of the game with any credit.
If any other group of paid employees performed as badly in their working environment and failed to reach reasonable targets that had been set for them then their Line Manager would be held to account. Shaun Macrae is responsible for that performance in the last analysis and he is answerable.
I know he didn't tell Gibson to kick the ball infield to nobody when it seems he only had to fall over the line; nor did he tell Alker to kick to their left winger when we had a twenty metre tap or tell Ratchford to put in a chip kick to two offside team mates on the last tackle on our twenty metre line, but he did give the team a game plan before the match presumably. What was it? We did not seem to be organised in any way. We had no options with ball in hand and our defensive line was static to allow them 10 metres at evey play the ball. In contrast, Brian Noble's team was organised, aware and gave the ball carrier options in attack at all times.
We may not have the most talented bunch of players in Super League as others have rightly pointed out, but they cannot be as bad as they seemed yesterday, and that's down to the coach.
I recall that a certain Karl Harrison was sacked after a similarly inept performance in France!
