| Contractors are being invited to bid for a £15m contract to build a new stadium in Barton for rugby league club Salford Reds.
The scheme is a joint venture between Manchester-based property company Peel Holdings and Salford City Council.
The stadium will be built on a 45-acre site next to Peel's Port Salford scheme. The site is bounded to the North by the A57, to the East by the elevated M60 Barton Bridge and Eccles Water Treatment Works, and to the South by the Manchester Ship Canal.
The contract covers the construction of a stadium with capacity for between 12,000 and 15,000 people across four stands with room to expand to 20,000 capacity.
The stadium will also feature two community pitches as well as the main playing surface, community changing facilities and parking for 500 cars and 20 coaches.
Up to six contractors will be shortlisted and invited to tender for the job in July.
Firms have until 23 April to submit pre-qualification questionnaires.
The stadium is scheduled to be completed in 2012
Finally woooow

[iThought I'd just share with you what I've heard recently.[/i
The 6 month contract for the land remediation work to start March/April has allegedly been awarded to a local company from Irlam. Being sceptical (After several false dawns) I did a quick google search to check a land remediation company existed in Irlam and found a firm by the name of W Maher & Sons Ltd.
www.remediation.co.uk/manchester.html Click link & scroll down to bottom of page
I've also been told by the same guy that he knows someone 'in the know' at Bovis (BBC Media City Contractors)... and he apparently said they will be favourites to win the contract from Peel/SCC to start building in September.

look I want to believe that we will start on March 15th and complete within the timescales quoted but as usual on this board gossip seems to be taken as gospel.
Does anyone actually know anything definite?

Probably like the HJ & LSV. Read that it is going to be 4 stands with standing at both ends.

I also really hope that it doesn't have standing at both ends because that would be crap! I don't want to stand at the end where you can't see the game properly. I want to stand at the side like in the shed.
From iconic stadium of the fans to e, makeshift, it will have to do, as we messed up again stadium.
Well Done Salford

I read Salford and Saints are using the same architects - AFL who designed the new Wembley Stadium.
If you open this AFL promotional brochure (link below) and scroll down to page 7 it shows all their clients.

| i wouldn't mind a stadium like HJ or LSV. Like someone said though, if the standing for home fans is behind the sticks that will be rubbish, at the side would be better. Probably have the dug outs opposite because of some of our muppet fans shouting abuse.

Personally I can’t see a company like Peel putting their name to a cheap looking boxy stadium within ‘Whittaker World’ . . I would expect with their huge buying power and business partners for them to build a hell of a lot more for their money than your average new stadium punter.

Most buildings associated with Peel are architecturally naff. Grand in some cases, but ultimately naff.

Surely if AFL are the appointed architects the design should be impressive?
