| Apologies exSafordUni.
First Red Joldsworth please check what "rights" mean. Also please explain how you shout loudest on a WRITTEN site.
Also Salfords No 1 (name says so much) - again check on what "rights" mean. Also I do not give a monkey if a poster has paid to go to every match since 1901 ... it's the quality of his/her opimions that matter.
His are poor as the supporting evidence simply is not there. As are both of yours.

| GT: I assure you I'm not having a nervous break down I am just stating the facts as I see them. How many times have we sold a promising young player on the verge of a great international future and signed 2 or 3 aussies who the fans agree didn't live up to expectations.
How many times have we signed big name players at least 5 years past their best and had to pay them top dollar because of who they are and not what they are.
For those who say that it is best to have a club rather than win stuff at a risk . We all want Salford Reds to be here but why have we got to continually put up with making up the numbers.
Why haven't we got enough fans? COS WE NEVER WIN ANYTHING
To win stuff we need our best players to stay.
Ray of sunshine am GT: Show me the light at the end of this tunnel and I will become the brightest ray you could wish for. If you don't like my opinion tough!! But insult me I don't think so. Get a reality chech QUICK

various promotions, cups in the second tier?
speak to a widnes fan (spent too much, went bust, look where they are now) a swinton fan (assets became too much to run, went bust, look where they are now), an oldham fan (went bust twice? look where they are now), a rochdale fan (re-formed as community club this year with points deductions - look where they are now)...
ask yourself what makes our club different to those? it's the money that our board have personally put in to maintain the club as a going concern...
various fans on this thread need to accept the reality of what we are.

| We do!!!! Trophies in the 2nd tier and promotions doesn't bring the fans in as our attendances show.
If we must accept what we are we should have stayed in the championship where we had a chance of winning those second tier competitions. Either the club has ambition to play and compete in SL or it doesn't.
If it does- keep Myler, and Turner et al at all costs
If it doesn't- get back into the championship and stop promising us we are going somewhere.
By the way. At no point did I say that the board have not put money into the club!!!! What I said was they were guilty of wasting it!!!!!!!

In regards to your statement above can you please tell me how many times we've done that and who they were because I can't for the life of me think of any?

| Terry O'connor for one. Paul Groves left us and immediately got in the GB team. Admittedley it didn't work out at saints for him!
The more telling statement I made was the number of big money hasbeens we've had.
Andy Gregory, Martin Offiah, Bobby Goulding, Garry Jack (2nd time rnd), George Nicholls, Peter Glynn, Kieron O'loughlin, Willie Talau.
I'm sure you can think of a few more.

Terry O'Connor and Paul Groves......there the ones, neither of them were world class players, though I always liked TC even when he was at Wigan.
As for the older ones who came like Gregory and co, I sort of agree with the point your making but most of them even at there old age were still better than players we had.

You’re right here. In the last 30 years, whenever Salford have had a genuine young talent on their books, or a kid with the hype machine behind them, they have sold them on. The two you’ve mentioned are the main examples; Ged Byrne to a slightly lesser extent, Nathan McAvoy to a much lesser extent, who we’d already seen the best from. However, there’s no evidence to suggest whether doing so was detrimental to the team; I suppose that’s subjective and hindsight helps, or perhaps doesn’t help at all, in that analysis.
You’re probably being a little harsh on Groves. A lot of Saints supporters were fond of him and a combination of Murphy tossing about with team during a lulled period and players such as Bernard Dwyer coming through curtalied his impact. He still managed to play over well over 100 games for them.

I’m sure many would agree with you here, but some of the players you mentioned, although past their best, were a joy to watch at The Willows. A battered Andy Gregory is the still the best scrum-half I’ve seen play for Salford; Bobby Goulding had a good period and the Martin Offiah of 2001 would walk into today’s side. We’ll never know whether the policy of signing such players led to our relegation in 2002.

| It also has to be said, Salford have spent big during certain times under Wilkinson’s tenure. Adrian Hadley, Garry Jack and Richard Webster to name a few big buys.

| Quote ="Captain Planet"If worst case scenario was that Richie Myler does leave and go to Warrington as seems to be the gerneral feeling arounf the rl,
Would Salford have a case of suing the RL?
The reason of my thinking on this is that speaking to a player under contract with no permission from his club is obviosly illegal. So the fact that the RL allow tony smith to be warrington coach and England coach means he can "discuss tactics" with myler at anytime he wants while he's on england duty.
It would be the second time its happened to salford with coley/noble, only difference was he was in the final year of his contract where as Richie is coming upto that.
Any thoughts?'"
Anyways going back to the original question

Big difference between realistic expectations towards on the pitch matters and posting constant drivel on different threads about how the club's going to hell in a hand basket when you're in no position to judge nor comment.
Quote ="red13pjb"Get a reality chech QUICK'"
I have had a reality check. Salford are not a big club and without the new stadium and any other large cash injection we're never going to be realistically competing for major trophies. However, I do realise that this isn't the fault of JW or any other of the Salford directors. Something that has been explained in this thread and something like you and the others agreeing with you and calling the rest of us "s" seem to ignore and can't seem to handle.
The directors cannot pump their own money into Salford year on year, with no return, without bankrupting themselves.
There is no one out there willing to come in and invest. JW has tried to find someone. No one was willing to come forward and take the club on.
How is any of that his fault? It isn't, but you're still happy to whinge and cry because we don't win trophies. Boo hoo. 99% of rugby league clubs will never win trophies, but there's plenty of them out there who would swap places with us today if they could.

I agree completley, The Salford board will hardly make any thing at all and it doesn't help that our gates are rubbish. If we get into the new stadium and that's a big IF we would still need sufficent amount of supporters to make a decent amount of money plus big sponsers.
if only a sugar daddy would take us over
I can honestly say i have never expected us to challenge, for me watching salford win a game is good enough. it's not to bad being an under dog and winning games your not expected to it gives me the best feeling ever, people just need a reality check
sorry for going off on a tangent, had a moment

| If we dont make a go of it in the next two seasons were fooked anyway! Why not spend a bit extra and we'll hopefully win more games and make an impression on the rfl. If were challenging for the play offs then surely we should get another franchise? If we go down, kiss goodbye to JW and to our club.

| i've just read that the cap is staying the same for next season off the superleague website. Also it says that players who have played for 10 years or more at the same club, half their salary doesn't count on the cap. So that effects alker and littler?
