Missed me have u?? Well seeing as we lost a representative Australian in Ryan Hoffman and then England international in Joel Tomkins both replaced from within the club, Hock and Goulding. We replaced Andy Coley with Eric Lauaki who will be on similar wages. Signed Anthony Gelling from Auckland Vulcans so he won't be on mega money! RFL made salary cap rule changes to allow us to give Sam his big contract and not take up the full amount on the cap. Add to that Amos Roberts retirement who will of been on pretty big amount as it was on same contract he arrived on. Also isn't there a rule u can spend a certain amount of profit on the cap? And unlike some clubs wigan actually operate with a profit

| so we have it in one Wigan can spend more than the cap, so not a level playing field, looking at the Wigan squad there is no way they are not at full cap so Matty will take them further over. The RFL have no balls when it comes to the salary cap, Wigan caught three times cheating combined total loss of points 6, JCWWRL you are in cloud cuckoo land if you think Wigan have any space under the cap, perhaps a couple of players might play for nothing again to get below the cap, or Matty's partner is being employed as a consultant?

Oh and Sean O'loughlin is only 50% on the cap as too will Harrison Hansen next season I believe as players who have 10 year service at a club get half tbeir salary taken off the cap.

The Wigan team that is chock full of Academy players? They might be substantially better than anything Salford run out, but they're not on substantial wages.

| Smart move for all parties, we get some cash for him (whilst we still can) Wigan get a "replacement" for Leuluai and Smith gets a move to a club that will win something.
I've never been a big fan of Matty for many of the reasons on here but having met the lad and chatted over a pint, he's one of the nicest and most genuine players I've spoken to, I wish him all the best but I'm not overly upset about it.
Bring in Sneyd, he's got 8 matches that he didn't expect to have for a chance to shine and show PV & SL, the team and us fans that he’s got what it takes. Great chance for him now.

| The players and some staff don't seem happy on twitter, pretty fed up of seeing the whingeing tbh, yeah I know they might have a right to etc but Patten really leaves you wanting to slit your wrists his latest 'tweet' ''Staying off twitter might say something I'll regret''

| When I first read about this, earlier,I thought it must be Shaun Wane doing his friend PV a great favour and getting a little money put in his direction.
After all,the injury occurred during the first Exiles game.
With PV losing 2 of the spine of his side rumours of also losing DJ are not very welcome but this deal is the best all-round.Matty gets to his new club and will experience their tilt at success on 2 fronts and we start the future without him,a player who had his heart and desire elsewhere.
I think they call it a win-win.
I have no problem with him lining up against us in August, while the memory is very fresh in my mind about how comprehensively beaten 2 former Salford players were last Friday night.

| I've just posted as much on the Wigan forum but now having some time to think about this the deal makes perfect sense.
Wage lost, transfer fee gained = massive help to our shoddy finances.
Game time for Sneyd who will most likely be our starter next year given we more then likely won't be able to afford an experienced replacement can only be a good thing. Harsh to write the lad off after the Cas game as I understand he was injured most the week prior. A good run of games could give him massive confidence going into next season. On the flip side, if he does turn out to be utter gash after 8 games we know we can't rely on him going into next season and will have to look at bringing somebody else in.
Top 8 a distant dream anyway with the 6 point gap.

| further to the sun article, the players responses from tiwtter would suggest this has gone down poorly,.
Patten - 'when I thought I seen it all'...'trying not to say something ill regret' etc etc
Holdworth - were being fed the same 'sh*t week after week like a record on repeat'. Also suggesting that lots of people are 'derricks' which appears to be playeers code for another 'D' word
Think the players need to grow up a bit. Yes your mates gone, BUT its a good deal for the club so surely they can see that!
Cant see how we'll keep many of our soon to be out of contract players (DJ, moon, broughton) with the moral / negativity from the players.
What a mess!

If you click on that one tweet, you can see that he's actually replying to Gareth Owen talking about Stevo's commentary on Sky. Although the 'Derricks' comment I presume is about the Matty Smith situation.

| Sorry but if the players can't see the business sense in this then they need to go back to school.
Very remote (if any) chance of making the play offs.
A player every man and his dog knows was off anyway.
A club where cash isn't oozing out of the seems.
A chance for a few games to blood his natural replacement to see if he can cut it and then plan accordingly off season.
For once I think Salford have done this right, made some much needed cash.

Agree 100%
At least this time when we lose one of our better players we get something for it. Still don't think he's Wigan standard but if they are willing to pay for him who are we to complain!
Let's hope Sneyd is able to impress and make a case for next season. I'd much prefer Salford to spend what ever money they have on the pack rather than another playmaker. If we beef up the pack so DJ can play for Salford the way he did for The Exiles then it'll be money well spent.

| That's what I was saying about twitter, Holdsworth has done it again today saying ''So f*cking angry'' Yes it might not be rugby related but I'm 95% sure it is about the Smith saga, I'm getting pretty fed up of it tbh they need to act a little bit more professional.

| They need to get in the real world, or maybe they would prefer to work for a club such as Bradford. A sound move for Salford, can't see what they are moaning about really. I'm sure smith was not forced out he is not a slave.

Speaking of Bradford they have £20,000 to pay players with when they need £200k, the RFL have said they will be OK because they have a home match against London on Sunday and hope to get 15,000 so cover the wage bill as well as getting Sky money which is due in a couple of weeks and selling players. But the third option depends on other clubs having money and space under the salary cap. The first on season ticket holders paying again to get in to boost the coffers and getting the people of Bradford out again to part with hard earned cash like the first £500k raised, it also assumes that they don't mind doing this for each of the home games to be able to pay the wage bills for the next three months.

| If DJ is unhappy, get rid of him too. Him and his mate Patten have made it clear throughout the season through various comments that they are not happy with our club.
Smith has gone, Patten is going, DJ needs to make his mind up as well. If Hull FC or anyone wants him, I hope we take a decent fee for him and sign or promote someone who IS committed and WILL perform for us next season.
The last thing we need next year is another 'star' player going through the motions until the next contract comes along.

Slightly unfair comment. You could hardly class any of the players you mentioned as 'going through the motions'.
Losing DJ, if/when it happens will be the crucial time for us. For me, he is the player who makes the team move around the park. Losing the General is also going to be tough as he is definitely the best attacking Fullback around atm. Losing Smith was the lesser of three evils and getting a fee is a real bonus. Losing all three at roughly the same time would be tough for us and some shrewd coaching will be required to find the right replacements for the right price.
Keeping DJ, at least until the end of next season would be the best thing for Salford in the current climate.

| The only place DH will be going to in the future is Oz.
Patten will be his agent and they will get a good deal somewhere.
If he does go to someone in the UK then get a whacking fee for him and have players at Salford who want to play for the club.
Sick of hearing about the whinging ba$tards.

| I have seen the link to The Sun story which has NOT identified any,or named all,or explained how this anger has manifested itself.
To post on this particular forum about whinging, has to be considered irony at the highest level.
Taking comments on Twitter and merging them with a story in The Sun is ludicrous.
Anyhow, players are entitled to an opinion and there is a majority (of people) who believe it right and proper for a player to go to the highest bidder, seek immediate success, believe the grass is greener etc. so if there is any frustration then it should be directed at the person who has left.
I don't think it is possible for any player to be held against his will.He wanted to leave. He left.
There is nothing stopping him saying goodbye to his former teammates at any time;probably at the DW stadium
in August.
I think DJ has had more drama to contend with over his time with Salford and I believe him to be uber-professional.
