Well mate, we will leave it at that, it's not my argument anyway but Matt is a nice guy so try to give him a brake wether he is right or wrong it doesn't really matter, we are all wrong sometimes, anyway good win tonight and good luck for the rest of the season.

You miss the point.
The tone of your reply was uncalled for.
Especially the lower league bit.
How short is your memory?
Also, it's a good job you don't teach English.....

| I'm gonna stick up for Mason here.
He put in an 80 minute stint, and was well wrapped up (credit to the Salford defence) down the middle. Had we been smart enough he would have put Hall or Webster in twice as we had 4 on 2 on his wing from 15 metres out on two occasions but instead we chose to go the other way.
He will be devastating for us on the flanks when we hit form, and to judge him in a game when a) not one of our props showed anything near enough aggression and desire to make any ground for us and Mason ended up doing a lot of the graft himself and b) we were totally outplayed and out enthused by you is very unfair on the guy.

Some valid points there. Mason, as you elude to is the type of player to capitalise on the dominance of the front row. Much like Feka, he's not the type of player to create the said dominance and the momentum that results. That said, how many teams in either Super League or the NRL can afford a player like Mason? That is, how many other teams can in effect, play with one man less for prolonged periods of the game until the dominance has been created?
Canterbury had this luxury when Mason was there. The Roosters and the Cowboys certainly did not.
Hopefully you can see what I'm getting at here. And hopefully for KR's sake, they can use Mason to his full potential.

I see your point, and I do agree with you.
I do think though, if we had our props actually playing with some passion and looking to push the line then we can "afford" Mason as you put it - assuming you meant afford as in almost carrying a player who is only good in a certain situation?
Also, Newton goes through a lot of hard work when he plays, and we haven't played without him for a similar length of time as Dobson. Both have been ever present for 70+ games, and it's a test now to see how we deal with it.
I think we will come good though, and I think Mason will prove a lot of the doubters wrong (not saying you are a doubter).

I'm not getting in to a slanging match as it achieves nowt, but these are the facts.
Tickets purchased through the Willows Ticket Office before matchday receive a £2 pre-purchase discount and are therefore £18 for an adult. All tickets for Salford home fixtures that are purchased via the visiting club cost £20 for an adult and do not receive a pre-purchase discount at the request of Salford City Reds.
You can chuck insults about all you like but the above are the facts - feel free to check with Steve McNally at Salford City Reds if you like as he was the chap who I discussed the situation with earlier in the season (sorry to name you on here, Steve!)
As for the original topic, I was expecting much more from Mason last night but huge credit for the Salford defence for limiting his threat and getting 2-3 players in at every tackle. Maybe HKR will realise as the season goes on that it could become an advantage for them if Mason can draw players in to the tackle and then release an offload, but Salford did superbly to limit that last night.

Correct, I do mean carrying a player who is only good when the rest of the forwards or are good. As you say, guys like Newton who aren't show pony's but integral to the success of a team are often only noticeable in their absence. This is perhaps what's going wrong at KR now? However, I thought Lovegrove was impressive last night. That run he made was remarkable.
Another point I'd make on Mason is that he exhibits a great deal of extraverted behaviour. Lots of noise, promises and intimidatory rhetoric. Whilst some team mates will certainly be aroused by such behaviour, others may resent the assumed place in the pecking order that Mason tends to reward himself. Furthermore, his behaviour can even encourage and arouse opponents. Once again, such behaviour is without a doubt, more appropriate when in a dominant team with a big repuatation.
Of course I can't be sure that this is currently occuring in the Rovers camp. But, this has been the case throughout Mason's career. It worked brilliantly at the Bulldogs as that particular team carried a big reputation. But he continued to, for want of a better phrase, 'mouth off,' when at Easts and the Cowboys to far less effect.
If your coaches and senior players can keep him in check and force him to earn his place within the group, I believe he'll flourish.

Probably the worst first-team forward I've seen at the Roosters in recent years, and there have been some bad 'uns for him to compete with too.
The most baffling thing was that the worst he played, the more arrogant he appeared?!

Exactly what my cousin, a life-long Easts supporter said. Although perhaps it was more noticeable when he'd played a particularly bad game???

| To use him for the full 80 last night was baffling. Thought you wrapped him up well but we needed to get quick plays off him and we only did that for 10 mins. Baffling tactics from Morgan

| I think to be fair to Mason, he put in plenty of graft. He got through lots of hit ups and was as good as any other KR forward except their no 8 - Lovegrove is it? I've never seen salford target and manage a player so effectively before, every time he got it there were three of them on him and on the odd occasion he got one on one, they put dream tackles in (I think both Smith and Ratchford managed it). When KR got on a roll at the start of the second half and he had space to run onto the ball at pace he put two of our props and our LF on their backs and got an offload or two in.
There was no dirty play and no mouthing off that i saw. He took a couple of high shots without responding. He responded well to the stick from the salford fans, just laughing it off and applauded them as he left. All in all a decent performance in a beaten team

| Mason was kept quiet by Salford although there were occaisional signs of what he`s capable of. I`m sure as the season progress`s he will get up to speed and cause plenty of grief for all who face him .

Unless KR improve as a team, he won't.

| One way of looking at Masons signing is would we have him or would we have our big closed season front row addition in Feka?.
Not entirely sure on the differences in what they are being paid or how much Mason's partner is getting for which ever tax fiddle job she is being paid for but surely it would be money well spent compared to what Feka is getting.

I will say as well in all the press stuff he has done he has come off really well, and I spoke to him at a fans night the other night and he is a very nice guy. I think his "ego" has probably left him back at 26-27, and I think he just wants to go out on a high now.
