Very pleased to read that Shannon McPherson is OK. Just a thought . . Considering the amount of injuries he gets do you think he's just unluckily or do you think it has something to do with his technique??

As for McPherson - can hardly call concussion due to getting hit by a ball in the face down to his technique! (Well not mcphersons anyway!) glad he's on the mend.

I saw it at the time &thought it certainly was an elbow in the face as did the touch judge who was standing right next to the pair of them.

Now whether it was "deliberate" or just clumsy, poor technique, an attempt to fend off that went wrong - who can say?

the RFL disciplinary panel as they have ruled it as a legitimate fend,hardly a deliberate smash intended to cause injury as some of you claim it was.
if it really was that bad then im sure one of the officials on duty would have also seen it that way and appropriate action would have been taken.

Clumsy deliberate what ever he used his elbow to an already injured player causing more damage, he knew that player was being treated for face injury .

In fact what they said was "Player makes legitimate attempt to fend opponent."

The clue is in the wording perhaps - in their opinion he attempted to fend off Johnson, but the result was, as I and the Touch Judge saw it, he hit him with the elbow - you may recall that the Touchie came on, flag raised and play was stopped and we were awarded a penalty. Clearly the disciplinary panel thought that was adequate - all history now!!

If the player was so badly injured he should have come off, that's an error by your own medical staff - its a contact sport for goodness sake, or did they just tell him not to bother tackling anyone or receive the ball but just stand there and look ugly. As for the latter - did he know, I didn't know what he was being treated for I would hope our players have better things to do than watch what the medical staff are doing to an opposition player, but you know he knew - wow, you told anyone else about these powers of yours?

I have to be honest and say that anyone who has played the game knows that if an opposition player is injured you target him, obviously not saying that you target him in an underhand way but you either run directly at him ball in hand or kick towards him.

It's done and dusted now anyway.

Silly me. I thought you could read. I even use punctuation. I can even use the words they are instead of there correctly unlike some. Obviously you aren't used to it.

I'm being pedantic here but he didn't perform a legitimate fend, he made a 'legitimate attempt' to fend. He ended up using a forearm to the face and that's why we got the penalty for it. I didn't think it was as bad as some people made out and I think if Johnson hadn't have already been injured, we wouldn't be having this discussion over this many pages. I was never expecting a ban but was maybe expecting a warning about his technique for the future.

No he didn't, the tackle was deemed a foul and was penalised. Read it again, and read BartonFlyer's post (edit - and the one above that was posted while I wrote this) - he attempted a legitimate fend. The foul just didn't warrant a ban in the eyes of the panel.

Anyway, the matter's over now.
