| Crazy incident. I don't think for one minute he's deliberately thought about hitting the ref, one second he's in for a try the next he's smashing into the referee. It all happens too quickly to be premeditated. Bizarre how seems to dip the shoulder in though as if this would be better than clattering front on?
Very odd.

| Case Number ON/121/12
Name Ryan Bailey
Club Leeds
Shirt Number 16
Match Leeds v Warrington
Competition Super League
Date 09/03/12
Incident considered Deliberate physical contact with a match official in 36th minute
Decision Charge
Details of Charge / Reason for NF Rule: 15.1(i) Detail: Deliberate physical contact with a match official Grade: C MRP - Referred to tribunal
Range of Recommended Sanctions in relation to Charged Grade* 2-3 matches
Date of Disciplinary Committee 13/03/12
Evidence provided DVD and letter from match official.
Decision On Charge
Player plea Guilty
Summary of CM's submissions on the Charge / evidence The Panel reviewed an incident which occurred in approximately the 36th minute of the Match. In the Panel’s opinion you made deliberate physical contact with the referee. The Panel believed that this behaviour was serious misconduct, unnecessary and against the spirit of the game. In accordance with the RFL’s On Field Sentencing Guidelines, the Panel consider that such offence is a Grade C offence (Deliberate physical contact with a match official). If found to have committed the offence, again in accordance with the On Field Sentencing Guidelines, the normal suspension range for such offence is from 2 match suspension to a 3 match suspension. In addition the Tribunal has the power to impose such fine as it considers reasonable.
Summary of Player's submissions on the Charge / evidence Player admitts guilt.
Decision Guilty plea.
Reasons for Decision
Decision On Sanction (where found to have committed Misconduct)
Summary of CM's submissions on the appropriate sanction No further submissions.
Summary of Player's submissions on the appropriate sanction Mr McDermott believes Mr Bailey is guilty of the offence. Mr McDermott does feel that the match official’s postioning was poor, however Mr Bailey should have realised that the match official was not a decoy runner. In addition he should have taken a more appropriate course of action in attempting to move around him.
Aggravating Factors
Mitigating Factors Guilty plea.
Reasons for Decision The panel believe that Mr Bailey should have dealt with the situation in a different way. There was a deliberate push on the referee and continued petulance showed towards the referee after the try was scored. The panel will not tolerate any aggression showed towards a match official. The panel have taken into account the plea of guilt but cannot overlook the seriousness of this incident. It is therefore the opinion of the committee that a 3 match suspension and a £300 fine is in order.
Suspension 3 matches
Fine £300

| Just watched Saturdays highlights again and something that struck me on the day that I've just seen again is that there was nothing made of the tackle on Sa'u. I'm pretty sure that the Hull player was guilty of nothing more than a lazy tackle but the Ref said nothing at all, too then have Hock up before the beak for an offence in the same game is a bit of an insult to the players if you ask me.

| Let's be honest the guy has got previous, in this incident he has a lot of time to move out the way and he drops his shoulder last second. Before i seen the incident i though it was a farce, but after seeing it last night on super league full time i can't think of anything but stupidity! Cracking player but a damn liability. Let's just hope he gets away with a 4 game ban and comes back and gets us a top8 place!

I saw this on sarurday and didn't think much of it, but as you can see with this replay, drops his shoulder and carriers on.
Now I would say momentum didn't help, but also in an innocent collision you don't drop your shoulder?!
Fear it will be 4 games for him, bad timing especially with leeds coming up!!

| I'm fascinated by this.
For the life of me I can't believe he did it on purpose,no matter how it looks.
The missing information is what Hock is saying.
Just seen that the Doctor is tweeting no way was it deliberate and the club will defend him

Hock was so annoyed at the result he decided to shoulder charge a ref? It's possible.

| I am with Bonita Red, I cant see him doing this on purpose. Contact looks inevitable, I don't think he could pull out but its the dipping of the shoulder I cant get over. Does he stumble? Doesn't look like it from what I can see.

| Hock could have avoided the ref or at least avoided the severity of the contact endured by Thomason. Granted he is running at full pelt, but he clearly dips his shoulder into the ref and then carries on driving forward, sitting the ref down in the front row of the North stand. Needless, pointless act, which he could have avoided.

| I've watched the video a few times and still can't work out whether it was intentional or not. If it was any other player I'd say it was an accident but you never know with Hock.

Come on pal he could have stopped or avoided him, the official must be 8 meters away and he stumbles about five steps before the collision. The only question for my is why has he done it - not is it on purpose

| Deffo looks deliberate, just wonder if he was trying to wrap his arms round the ref to stop him falling backwards. The clip cuts off straight after the incident so does any one know if Hock helped the ref to his feet or if he apologised. Either of these actions would go some way towards proving it wasn't deliberate.

I'm not having a 16 stone (guess) Gareth Hock running at that speed could have stopped or avoided contact. The issue is with the blatant dip of the shoulder.

| It looked innocent on the day but the clip looks damning.
I'm inclined to believe he slipped and lost balance after trying to grab for the ball or something in all honesty. Reasons being, Hock has been remarkably well behaved this year with the exception of the London game at the beginning of the season....and more importantly, what reason did he have to go for the ref? There was nothing I can think of that would have even put the thought into his head, we were in front & there were no controversial calls against us unless I missed something?
I think its just a bad camera angle of an unfortunate but innocent incident.

The charge shouldn't even be up for debate. There's some utter lunacy on here.

| Well, having finally seen the video, I'm not sure this is as clear cut as some fans of other clubs would like it to be. Having lost the ball, he steps to the right to avoid the Hull player, and finds himself a couple of yards from the referee who is running towards the line he is now running, and who keeps running right up to the point of impact. The referee, who is lighter and has less momentum than Gareth Hock, didn't seem to be able to pull out of the collision either.
Unfortunately, his past behaviour may well count against him here, since he has a bit of previous on the "see...ref...crash...ref" front, but had it been a different player, I'm not convinced people would be so quick to judge.

| He's already been convicted and thrown out of RL with regards to Social media. What bothers me here, is that the 'incident' is far from clear cut regardless of opinions. You can't look at it and say for certain, 100% that he's deliberately done something to the ref. It's interesting that on the day nothing was done about it, no 'on report' no decisions. Both sets of fans and clearly the Officials thought nothing of it. The only real reason it's being debated is due to it being Hock. If Hansen, or Ellis or anyone else had done it I guarantee we wouldn't be talking about it now.
Which isn't fair.
A player is being vilified due to his past which is wrong. Regardless of previous, as a Salford fan one of the big plus points with Hock this season is how controlled and uncontroversial he's been. As for dipping his shoulder, he actually dips both forward as he's trying to stay on his feet after moving to the left of the official. Regardless of this, Hock is in the process of trying to retrieve a kicked ball to score. He even gets his hand to it. He then has half a second or so to decide he's going to blast into an official? It's ridiculous. His focus was getting the ball. The half second after that is momentum and physics.

| After the Docs remedial action following Nobbygate the whole club is being noticed more (except in Salford it seems) & as we go along more knives will be coming out from RFL, fans and Chairmen alike.
Just think we have to tough it out - Just part of the success to come hopefully.

| Not all of you but some are just being silly the evidence was there for all to see yet you are still trying to defend the idiot . Just a couple of points .
1. Neither Tansey or Bailey were sent off either
2. All of you who say how well Hock has behaved this season , well so did a certain Liverpool Footballer for 6 months and then look what happened .

Point for future reference...
If you want to be taken seriously with the points you made, I'd suggest trying to be neutral in your post. Before you've even made any valid points you've already revealed your personal feelings on the matter, therefore making the rest of your post void.
