| How about the Salford players played to the whistle like Widnes did, or is that too much to ask from our 'superstars'? At least 5 Reds stood still and allowed Hanbury to pick the ball up. No excuses for that.

| Quote ="jjm"But surely play should have been stopped. You are not allowed to stop someone by making contact with their head, accidentally or otherwise. Tasi did nothing wrong and did not drop the ball until he was rendered unconscious.
The tackler has responsibility to position himself to make a safe tackle. Leuleuai initiated the contact that led to the head clash. I would have thought a penalty would be a minimum outcome. Otherwise we have a very dangerous game.
When compared to other penalties given, it seems baffling.
As I said before, well done to Widnes on a very good win.'"
Head clashes aren't penalties, there was nothing wrong with the tackle. He dropped the ball, hanbury picked it up and ran the length of the field. The fact a player is unconscious only matters after a tackle is complete (the ball is dead) or if aiding the player impacts on play. Neither did, and what occurred was the correct decision.
Regardless, you play to the whistle, and Salford didn't.

| There's definitely improvement.
We played well and were unlucky.
I think we would have been in the same position,or better, had Noble stayed as this is all part of the gelling he referred to.
I thought at the game, and reinforced watching later on TV,that Mullaney was the best 7 display this season.
His Wikipedia page says he's a full back, scrum half or five eighth

| Quote ="Bonita Red"At last someone who saw the same game that I did.
We lost the match and there's no avoiding that but we played pretty well.
Mullaney at scrum half was excellent, the pack hammered their's.
Meli still had some work to do to score his try but his defence is poor
Danny Williams took his try really well.
Tomkins made a difference.
We were unlucky.
Roby was terrible. Hardly played a set without him giving a penalty one way or another and missed loads of forward passes. Also just made bad calls consistently.
I think we do look a proper side and I don't think we are too far off.
The comments about lack of heart are well off the mark.
The cup is half full not half empty.
But we lost !
PS I'm now going to watch it on telly to see whether I'm right'"
Spot on mate. I thought Mullaney was excellent at number 7. One of the worst refereeing performances (I can only describe it as such) from Roby. Forward passes galore (I never usually get involved with these) it got silly. Only able to watch on TV as I live hundreds of miles away, but the way the Sky commentators (principally Eddie) slated off everything Salford was beyond the pale. Tony Rae was the only even handed one. Also thought that there was a lot of mischief making from Eddie about Hock raising his knee when no harm would have come at all if the Vikings player had not made schoolboy error number one and got his head the correct side when tackling.

Shame that you can't see beyond the obvious, and you fail to give credit where it's due.

| Hemings is never impartial, where Widnes is concerned. Cullen was Director of rugby for Widnes. Why are we surprised that Salford get a raw deal off them.
The doctor must have really p...ed them off, because they take it in turns to have a dig at our club.

Poor comment from someone who has been reasonably balanced this season.
Have you taken a swig of Wirecutter & Tonic? If you cant see the definite improvement since Nobby left then you are not watching the same team as I am.
Harris has certainly brought more flair and width. Its not his fault we have Meli trundling up the wing etc. Harris has been given the set of cards he has to play.

| John Gilbert and Talent Spotter are spot on.
Hopefully if we keep "improving" at the current rate we'll win a game by early September.
As for the Wirecutter meltdown - dearie me.

The odds are clearly in our favour but if our "improvement" continues at the current rate we may well get sucked into it. If Bradford get no points back we should be fine.

Sadly this demand for flair and width has contributed to our current predicament. I'm not sure where the myth started that Salford have a traditional glorious style of attacking rugby to live up to?

Give it a rest. I'll give credit where credits due, if you've bothered to read any of my other posts you'll see I have great praise for our forwards who continually put 100% effort in, making yards and giving us strength in the middle of the park in defence. Our backs, with the exception of Sa'u have been dreadful and are at fault weekly for our defeats. How many tries have we conceded outwide this season?
I have also said I don't blame Harris and didn't blame Noble previously, blame lies with the players. Far too many individual errors and mistakes from professional players who quite simply aren't good enough.
Keep believing you're seeing an improvement though. I just hope Bradford don't get their points back, because if they do this "improvement in flair" (anyone team with Rangi Chase in will have flair - Noble didn't have the luxury of using him as much as Harris has, so your comparison is invalid) won't be enough to keep us in Super League.

| Harris has already identified one of the main problems, trying to score off every play. Need a Dunemann type to calm things down and do the basics when we hit the front. There were things that had me shaking my head yesterday and we can blame the ref all we want but trying to regather a goal line drop out at 12 all, throwing Hollywood passes when we'd just gone in front and missing a kick in front of the sticks are not helping matters. An old, experienced head may have seen us home yesterday.

| Just remembered one super play yesterday was to chip the ball sideways to that giant of a man Junior (last pick for the basketball team) Sa'u.
At times we look like there are bonus points on offer for the best looking try, I'd be just as happy if every try was a crash over from 5 yards if it decreased the desire to throw the wonder pass every set of six.
I mentioned earlier I'd love to see us try and find an old head scrum half for next season to help the next phase of the rebuilding mess with the players retained from this year, someone very much in the Dunneman mold was who I had in mind.
Can't for the life of me think of anyone playing SL or in the NRL who would fit the bill now as players of that type are now a dieing bread.

Herein lies where Harris will be judged. He's coaching a team of players that Noble chose. The signs so far are encouraging though, Kevin Locke and Ben Jones-Bishop are a step in the right direction and a massive improvement on what we've currently got.
One position Harris doesn't need to look for is scrum half, Sneyd is more than good enough for that role.

No TS the current predicament has been caused by Nobby`s selection process and his mantra of 5 drives and an up and under. Harris has to undo Noble`s boring outdated philosophy which with so may egos in the dressing room is a tough job.
He needs time to weed out what he doesnt need and implement a strategy which will be a winning one and also entertaining.
Sadly because of my age I do still yearn for the glorious style of attacking rugby seen in the 60s and 70s at the club but guess we will all have to wait until at least next season now before we see it.
The Rugby Cas are playing under Daryl Powell would do me for starters.

I'll agree with you that they weren't the choice of Harris but are you sure it was nobby that chose them? Locke will light up the super league next year, theres no doubt about that but he will be costing at least the same as chase and probably a lot more and i've heard all the excuses before However if you are all honest with yourselves you must admit to some concerns about how you can stay under the cap (legitimately) BJB is better than what you've got but after is performance against Wigan yesterday are you still as happy. We'll have to see what happens with Mark but as i've mentioned in another thread can you give a good reason why he would want to come back. Its obvious he is loving every thing about Cas.
