Frustration and temper, In the cold light of day he wouldnt of done that but we've all ballsed up at some point. He'll feel gutted by his actions but he's not that sort of player. 1 game ban and a fine.
It was a cheap shot but I dont think he saw it that way, he just went to smack him out of frustration..Chin up Wagga

I have to say after seeing the game on the telly last night it wasn't as bad as it seems. he opened his hand and didn't go in with a fist. He also never made contact at all with his hand or arm with Schifofske's face or even head. It was very much a large upper body barge into him.
It was still a very silly thing to do though as we need our best players on the pitch especially with the pack already being so lightweight.

I watched the game again last night. Ok the red mist had decended, and Godwin was backing up a team mate at the end of a torrid 80 mins but most self respecting hookers would have run another couple of steps and challanged Schifcofske face on. Then he would only have been looking at a yellow.
While Alkers is giving Godwin the high five, Matty Smith is looking at Godwin as if he is something nasty that he has just stepped in 
On a lighter note, this could the stand out action scene from Micky Rourke movie, though I not sure that the hollywood interpretation will do Godwin or Salford any favours. |

I'm not sure exactly what Godwin was complaining about. Just rewatched from 78th min and whilst Clinton did chase after Nero to explain exactly what he thought of about the indignity of being landed on his butt, Nero was the first to aim his handbag at Clinton. While Hicks is reporting to Alibet, Nero and Clinton kiss and make up, all sorted in seconds. Godwin needs to chill, if Neal hadn't had a firm grip on the scruff of his neck he could have got himself in a lot deeper. |

NO CONTACT WAS MADE WITH HIS HAND.
While I appreciate he ran over, barged into him and swung his hand round the front of the player he made no contact with his hand! He didn't punch the player from behind as many seem to be making a point of. Ok he istigated the matter and had no reason to run over and make a scene howver much worse has been overlooked.
Fielden getting decked head on by Willy Mason (i think) and no card was shown. Christ Fielden was knocked out and collapsed in heap and many say he hasnt played the same since!!!
Its a joke. And unless you've seen what truly happened please keep your outlandish " it was as bad as GBH he could have killed him " comments to a minimum

You are completely incorrect.
I have just watched it again on Youtube and, however minimal it may have been, contact was definitely made and the intent was clear for all to see.
This has absolutely no comparison to the Mason/Fielden incident whatsoever, so I fail to see why people have even mentioned that  |

I've not seen the incident since being in the ground on Sunday, but wouldn't the black eye and stitches be as a result of the accidental head/face collision between Nero and Clinton (as mentioned by starbug earlier in this thread) that led to Clinton's initial running after Nero? |

Yeah think that's fair enough, was a bit of a girly slap and amazed it resulted in stitches but can't argue with a 2 game ban. Whilst on the subject of cheap shot merchants I can't believe Keith Senior hasn't been mentioned. Biggest house of them all  . Seem to remember a particularly 'impressive' example of a rabbit punch in his Sheffield Eagles days in a televised cup match. Stood at the back of a big melee and launched a big right hand that didn't miss then ran away IIRC! Pretty sure he got away with it as well. |

Schifcofkse should have been penalised at least for running 10 yards to have a go at Nero, but that would not matter a jot one way or another because we all know that the mighty Crusaders can do no wrong when it comes to the RFL. Perhaps he was just a bit miffed that after showing off his incredible skills he forgot to look where he was going ala NERO was the proverble lamppost.

That video shows you the wrong angle.
On the live sky feed there was an angle from half way near the dug outs looking towards the incident. It clearly shows clear air between Godwin's hand and schifcofske. The view on that camera angle you highlighted is deceiving. In the same way a forard pass can be from the wrong angle.
Also if your saying it was Godwins contact doing that to his face. Godwin allegedly punches him from the right hand side and from the rear. Theres no way on god's earth that that same hand could curve all the way around his face to cause the cut you can clearly see pouring claret on his LEFT cheekbone.
I'd say that it was more than likely done by Nero as Shifcofske ran towards him and he put his hands up to push him away.
Has anyone got the game recorded still on sky + ? to back up the camera angle I'm going on about. |

So why would Shifcofske run after someone for a little chest barge? it doesn't make sense? Perhaps they connected faces at that point and he felt like he had been punched hence the reaction? |

If you look at the SLTV link you'll see that as Clinton approached, Nero puts his hands to Clinton's chest not his face.
It's irrelevant really as the RFL have banned him for two games for throwing a punch. BTW I've got the game on DVD and it doesn't show another angle.

No I'm not mate. You can clearly see him wiping away running blood from a cut on his left cheekbone as he's teeing up his kick. Sky even mention it.
But as you say its irrelevant now it's done and he's been charged. |

Here are some other thoughts on the subject since the overwhelming opinion is that Godwin was stupid and has quite rightly been punished.
1. Why were Ben Galea and craig Fitzgibbon not sent off for "throwing Punches"?
2. Why was Jeff Lima banned for 2 matches for chicken wing tackles when Rob Parker was not even though he was penalised for the same offence and why was the crusaders player who did the same to Adam Sidlow not penalised at all?
3. How can Aaron Murphy possibly consider appealing his ban for a dangerous throw when everyone who saw it thought he should have been sent off at the time (apart of course from the ref who copped out with the on report)?
It seems to me that Magic weekend was the perfect opportunity for the refs to get some consistency with them being altogether. How stupid of me!

1. Because there is a big difference between a bit of derby biff like Galea and Fitzgibbon or Nero and Schifcofske and what Godwin did.
2. Rob Parker dodgy wrapping around players legs wrestling style tackling went unpunished for years. Parker must have had enough warning letters to paper his downstairs toilet. No doubt his chicken wing tackles will be swept under the carpet as well. Some players seem to be in favour with Red Hall. Missed the tackle on Sidlow. Which player was it?
3. Murphy's tackle was more poor technique than malice, with the mass player exodus at Wakefield, maybe Murphy is just hoping for a reduction in his ban. |

. Seem to remember a particularly 'impressive' example of a rabbit punch in his Sheffield Eagles days in a televised cup match. Stood at the back of a big melee and launched a big right hand that didn't miss then ran away IIRC! Pretty sure he got away with it as well.
