| MP is a breath of fresh air after the MCrae era. At last we have a coach who says it as it is. The whole football set up has to be drastically revamped, so that each age group is coached the same, then as they progress to the first team they know all the systems and plays that are in place. This should be a basic requirement, which is not in place and this must fall squarely on steve Simms shoulders as Director of Football. To help MP put things in place, the best thing would be to get rid of any possible interference and dispense with Steve Simms as we do not need or can afford a director of football. The money saved could either be used for youth development or on the playing staff. I believe our budget for next year is the same as this years, which was cosiderably more than two seasons ago. I agree we should be looking at Championship players, and players from Samoa/ Tonga/ Fiji etc who would probably show more commitment and passion for the club. Matt Parish, i am convinced is the man for the job, he came here knowing we were unlikely to win any of the games left, but the whole idea was that he could decide who he wants to keep and who he doesnt. He will now be able to make the hard choices and it is now up to the Board and all of us fans to be positive and back him to the hilt.

Ditto.
There are plenty of good players at that level who could do a good job for us.
I've been desperate for us to sign Chris Hill from Leigh for ages but that won't be happening now.
Leigh have been excellent this year though and have a team full of young, local lads that they may not be able to keep on next year due to financial constraints. Would certainly be worth a look. They're already losing Hill to Wire and Ellis to Hull, hope we've got scouts out at that level too.
Can't agree with you about Steve Simms though Brian.

| The contracts may state that they can come back in January but as any employee is aware your employer can put pressure on you to act outside the contract. Look how many do unpaid overtime etc.
I hope Parish lets the players know what is expected and they react and arrive before Xmas.
Harrison tried to establish this type of work ethic and the acdemy set up we have is a result, but we need to move on and become a modern club in a modern stadium.

Not disagreeing with your point at all but, as we always hear about how well KH addressed our Academy set-up, why are the U20's doing so badly??

Probably because the club is in a mess, the under 18s are on different type of contracts to under 20s aren't they? and to be honest would you see your future going anywhere under McRae?
Harrison got Hunte involved and put in place many of the things other clubs see as routine, 4 years on they have neglected for whatever reason and the players seeking full time contracts have moved on.

| I am more convinced that Matt Parish will be on his than ever, unless John Wilkinson gets Simms right out of the way.
We have got the right man but buffoons above him, who is it to be Parish or Simms.

| Buffoons above him?
Really?
Look we all want Matt to succeed but we are making him sound like the Messiah.
He has a tough job, let's back him to the hilt, but all he has done so far is to speak his mind. That's good but not the main objective of his employment.

Didn't players such as Ratchford,Turner,Adamson etc come through the ranks while Harrison was in charge? How many came through the ranks under Mcrae to be regulars?

Can you, or any other posters on here, start a list of things Simms has done to improve the club?
Also, does anyone know what contract Simms is on? Not in terms of wages etc but in terms of length? Never hear anything about his contract being renewed etc? Yet he has been hear for a while now.

Sorry, had a busy day (didn't realise I was against the clock though either?!)
Am happy to start the list as you seem to want me to;
1). Brought Rhino to the club
However I'm not in anyway trying to defend Simms (as much as I like the fella), Iain summed up the way I see his time with us almost perfectly earlier this evening;
Quote ="Iain"I've always quite liked Simmsy as a character, and I've often found the slagging of him wearisome by people who really don't know what he does. Equally, as there isn't much awareness of what he does he's also hard to defend. One thing that must be asked though is why we are the only club that has a director of rugby? What skill set is missing from the rest of our backroom staff that every other club seems to cover with other personnel?'"
Can you, or anyone else, give me a list of the tasks which fall within Simms' job description that he hasn't done adequately?
Come on, quickly, I'm waiting???

End global warming.
Feed the world.
Find a cure for the common cold,
Eradicate the threat of Swintonism,
World peace,
Everything you read about Simms suggests Wilky is more than happy with the job he does, JW is a business man and hasn't got time to be doing some of the things chairmen do so I think he relies on SS to do a certain amount of those himself. As others in the past 24 hours have suggested I would question what Dave Tarrys role or more importantly ability to fulfill that role actually is.

As apposed to trying to have a sensible discussion between Salford supporters, something which doesn't tend to happen at the match, about the way things are going at the club?

| I really cannot believe some of our fans no wonder we're in the mess we are and have been for years if fans are willing to accept the dross the club has produced for years. You really do need to wake up and see the bigger picture, the whole of rugby league think we're a joke, players come to the club without having medicals, players have clauses in contracts that no professional player should have. Simms has a lot to answer for as does Mr Wilkinson and the rest of the board.
The club is badly run both on and off the field the sooner people realise that then maybe as a club we can move on.

1. Failed to ensure that players we signed were given a medical. That is a sacking offence on its own.
If Matt Parish comes out and says we don't need a Director of Football because he would happily do that side of the job and the money we pay Simms could go on recruitment would you be happy to support Simms leaving?

| Whoever didn't ensure new players had a medical before signing does need to take a good look at himself, the Bailey farce has cost us a quality player and half a seasons dead wages for nothing. For Gods sake London have just signed a brilliant 26 yr old Aussie prop who we'd all have been happy to see playing for Salford and I'm pretty sure that the money we have wasted on Bailey could have been invested in someone like him.

The only kind of discussion this forum entertains in numbers is when something's gone wrong, or the occasional baiting of "W*anky" Warrington fans.
There's no balance to these sensible discussions, very little insight (I don't know what XXX does - sack him/her!) and even less foresight. It's 99% knit-picking, 1% proposed solution.
I get why - we don't win enough rugby matches. If the team did the business, the general attitude on here would be far less drawn to negativity. But alas, we don't.

And why don't we win rugby matches or compete in them as often as we should aside from money?

Why the 'aside from money' stipulation? That's ultimately the difference between the top and bottom of the league.
