| The current doom and gloom on here is terrible. Granted, the apathy on here is down to over a decade of underachieving, we had some success under Gregory and Harrison, but that was far too short lived. Then all the goodwork Harrison did behind the scenes was undone by McRae. If press releases are to believed, we can thank Parish for raising McRae's poor standards! If nothing else.
So here we are, a new coach brought in to do a job, Matt Parish. Was he given assurances the club hasn't delivered on, promised new players? Parish might want new players, but last season the board invested heavily in the current squad. That current squad, plus Cashmere, seriously underachieved last season. Prehaps, our new conditioner can bring some of that Wasps know how with him, and turn our players into man mountains.
The new recruits form Aus both come with good reputations, Jordan James is a good defender and should be good signing for one or two seasons. I know Boyle improved on his first season, but my main worry is why we can get more out of a real 'Steady Eddie' type player than we can Sidlow. Sidlow has far better skills and more size than Boyle, but gets exposed far too often, whetther in defence or attack. Maybe one of the coaching staff should be pointing out, if he wants another contract and to stay in the professional game, he needs to pull his finger out. Unless he wants to go and get himself a proper job. Sidlow and James, together, could be a scary looking pair of starting props.
If you wnat to cheer yourselves up, go and look on the Hull FC forum. Not that I'm taking delight at FC's troubles, but McRae is once again proving just how inept he is. Since McRae arrived they have Aspinwall, convicted for driving offences, and Seymour, a recovering alcoholic. You can blame our board for signing him to such a long contract, but at least his continuance of failing, appears, to be carrying on at Hull. Demonstrating many of our problems were down to McRae.

Yes, apart from he's just been caught drink driving and his whole VISA could be in jeopardy?
Nothing against the man, just an indication of McRae working his magic in the transfer market, again!!!!

Seymour was signed by Agar and the old board.

I stand corrected. Although, the new board, thus far, don't seem to be doing much better.

just a rehash of his original tweet ..
Obviously Dean Ritchie is the Neil Barker of the Aus Telegraph .
anyway here's the tweat in all its gory glory , and a couple of homes truths in there ...
Quote DR'BulldogRitchie'
DR-"I hear Matt Parish is a candidate to be Geoff Toovey's assistant. Parish is coaching Salford and was Ricky Stuart's assistant for NSW"
RLWMole-"This is true."
DR-"Thank you mole, have you got any other names ?"
MJ-Lynch-"What happened to David Penna? Think he was coaching at Manly?"
DR-"He is under 20s coach..."
Naha45- "( Matt Parish )any good bulldog?"
DR-"Very good. Champion bloke too. Just a candidate though, nothing confirmed..."
Mick Hancock "(yes)Good move. Top coach, top bloke. But as I said, just a candidate at the moment..."
DR-"I heard when he got over there he was horrified by what he found. Not surprised he would take any way out. "
LF-"Heard the same. He's not real excited by Super League..."
DR-"can't blame him. Salford is a feeder team for rich clubs basically."
LD-"why not come back to a professional environment like Manly .... #hahahaha!"
DR/LF-"Stay out of this Lester!!!!"
LF"seriously, Manly even in the mess it's in is light years ahead of Salford."
LD-"Thats sad.Saw a show at a museum once based on #ruglyleague club admin, it was called "walking with dinosaurs"
LF-"Bleak joint too. And that's being nice!!!"
DR-"I almost walked there from Old Trafford one year. Thankfully I avoided it and ended up in another northern 5h7t hole!" the end ..

| If there is any truth in these rumours at all, then you have to feel for John Wilkinson.
What the hell has he done to deserve this on the eve of the opening of the new stadium.
It could all be crap but if Matt Parrish really does feel like the Aussies are saying, and is going to be in for every job available at home, then it would be better for him to go as soon as possible, and take his chances in Australia.
If its not true, and I hope it isn't, then either he or the Club should come out and clear the air.
We need to go into the new season, and new stadium,in the right frame of mind and this is terribly disappointing if true

I normally stick up for JW as without doubt there would be no Salford as a SL entity without him but if even half of what Parish has come out with in the press about how different the reality is to how it was painted to him when being interviewed orrigionally then I'm affraid Wilky has to hold his hands up and except some (if not all) responsibility.
I'll say it again I hope this is wrong as you get the feeling that Parish will bust a gut to make it work at Salford as his reputation will end up that he is a miracle worker.

| I hope that's correct.
I hope he will bust a gut to make it work because the way it's being painted makes him out to be an Aussie whinger and I'm sure he's better than that.
Wilky says Matt was really well briefed for the interview, and he was impressed by that so I'm sure Matt had also done his homework on Salford because it's hardly a State secret.

I hope JW stands by Matt parish only the 2nd coach he has employed in my life time who was a coach and not a explayer starting as a coach, he gave mcrae 3 years in which he virtually killed the club from the outside in, in Matt we trust even without bags of money mcrae got I feel we will get better results next season

| What Matt Parish was told in Australia and what has happened since he arrived are two completely different things. FACT. Had he been told back then what he knows now, he would never have taken the job. FACT. So somebody has to take responsibility for this. Too many on here think the grass is so green at Salford. WRONG. The club will not move forward until the current top levels are given a complete overhaul. So don't be sitting around feeling sorry for people, it's all their own doing.

...and you know this for absolute certain?
FWIW, the choices for Matt seem clear and will give us a real insight into the bloke's strength of character - either find himself an assistant job somewhere in the NRL before he's even had chance to prove himself as head coach material and (probably) remain as an assistant there for another lengthy period, or, stick around Salford, even with all its constraints and problems and show us all what he can do. Let's face it Matt hasn't proved anything - yet. If he legs it back to Aus as an assistant, then for me, he's bottled it, was never up for the challenge anyway and was clearly the wrong choice.
If he stays and turns us into a workmanlike, difficult to beat side that scrapes into a play-off place then he will have achieved a miracle from where we were in the middle of last year.

| The problem is nobody has been is willing to invest into the club because of various reasons, hopefully with the new stadium we might attract investors who would'nt have looked twice at the willows to shoulder the financial burden with wilky and co and possibly buy them out when the time is right for both parties
ABTS, If parish does depart he will go straight back and tell everyone what a joke we are, He has some good friends in high places so no players / coaches in their right mind will come to us only the ones who are looking for one big payday and its not the kind of player / coach I wish to have at salford anymore.

Dont agree.
Many out of work coaches about plus a few in work.
There is 1 man though for me head and shoulders above and SS should get the next 747 to sign up Mr Duneman.

How long has Dunnerman been a coach? At reserve grade I presume he will have ideas but as being recently retired will be cheap and a gamble
our current coach has coached at state of origin level which means he has performed at the very top level and knows what is needed to reach them levels on the field.
If parish departs then the next coach will be a puppet on a string exactly what we don't need at salford
In Matt we trust - just let's hope the board do

| I've said it before but if Parish was surprised by Salford then he is largely to blame.
Clubs will oversell themselves, any employer does. What I would ahve expected Matt to do is ask questions, do some research. Lets face it he only had to speak to a fellow Origin coach in John Cartwright to fact find, not exactly difficult is it?
Maybe he has come over here expecting to be able to change things and be working with only the best, well time to get real Matt and put some of your experience and great ideas into practice.
I expect to see improvement from last season and a team that appears to ahve a game plan and know what the rest are doing.
I expect to see players fit enough for the sport or punished.

With the greatest of respect for Salford and many other clubs, why would anybody want to throw money into a rugby league club. It's not as though your buying any assets for your money, other than the players if you want to include them in the asset register, although the way they chop and change clubs now I doubt that would be prudent. With the exception of possibly three or four clubs you are never going to get a premium on your investment in the long term, hence the reason there arn't ques of backers knocking the doors down of Salford or anywhere else. For many the ownership of a Rugby club is at best an ego trip.
