| As someone who contributed quite a lot to Malcolm's testimonial events I thought that his service to the club was exceptional especially in today's climate of so called sporting celebrities.
One must never forget however that he possibly got as much out of the club as he put in, yes he worked hard but the club appears to have looked after him financially over his time with us.
Why didn't he move on? Was he unsure about any move away from the comfort zone? Was the club paying him more than we the fans thought we were?
With regards to the book, I will reserve judgement until I read it but off the snippets that have been released up to now(presumably by Malcolm or his advisors) I am afraid that it could backfire on him big time.
The trips to Florida cost the club huge amounts of money that could have been used towards players and under Karl Harrison we did appear to get value for money but in the end it appears that a small number of professional sportsmen ruined it for everybody, players, coaches, directors and fans alike.
Its a great pity that his time at the club ended as it did but that's sport and his contract was ended as was the conditioner's and hopefully he will make a go of any new career that he takes up.

| It is interesting to see the different views.
Malc was loyal, and no one could doubt his efforts for the club.
Having said that I don't think he should have got the captaincy back or be given a coaching role. His attitude to others is nothing short of bullying.
I have wondered since whether having Malc at the club for so long also served to hold us back. He was a great defensive player but lacked the impact of many of today's hookers. If he had left wonder if the game plan would have changed?

| Trust me you will change your mind when you read the book. He certainly hasn't painted himself as Angelic. Lets just say a few on here who have listened to tittle tattle will have very red faces. It will reaffirm your feelings of disappointment about how the club is run!

| It's probably easier to say this before the book has been published, and I won't be reading it,but I do agree with the post regarding the tremendous effort and loyalty he displayed, whilst at the same time knowing that he took out as much as he put in.
He certainly isn't a legend, that's a huge insult to the class players we've had in the past but he did give good loyal service.
He can't be earning much for a book that will have very limited appeal so it's very disappointing that he apparently wants to be so critical of the club that paid him handsomely.
If reports are to be believed,it's just a crying shame that he feels the need to do this

As always i will let you guys make your mind up, Im not here to stir the pot but it sure makes for interesting debate!

I am, but I was being sincere.
There's not many places you'd choose to flog a book with a selling point as bleak as that but here, on the ST, it's giving people exactly what they want:

| Why is Alker entitled to feel bitter?
By his own admission
He has beaten up a colleague in most occupations this would result in sacking
He has taken drugs again in many occupations this is a sacking offence.
He had a gang mentality and cliques formed within the players as Captain he has some responsibility for that.
He has acted like a bully and brought disrepute on to the club and team again a sacking could have been the result.
All of this and still the club made him the highest paid player, Malc was lucky and well paid, in his radio interview a few weeks ago he accepted resposibility and therefore has little to be bitter about.
Coaching jobs are by their nature short term appointments, his contract ran out and he was paid for it.
No one other than the Queen has a job for life.

Once again Rugby League is gaining media coverage for all the wrong reasons.

| I've always liked Malc and his commitment was never in doubt. However, after reading and listening to interviews regarding the lead-up to the release of his book, he is coming across as a bit of a d ick. It's all very well being honest but it attracts the wrong headlines for RL as the media love to highlight the smallest fault.
Can't blame him for making a little extra cash now that he's not playing, but it's all a little 'ok magazine' for my liking after all the media interviews.
I'll read the book and give it an honest appraisal. Hopefully my opinion might change.

| Whether Malc was right, or very probably wrong, in many aspects of his behaviour whilst at the Club, and whether considered a 'Legend' or not, he is the ONLY player in recent times who has shown TOTAL dedication to Salford ON THE FIELD.
He was the backbone of our side during our most successful season in SL under KH, and his attitude and fire is what helped us gain more than a few wins against the odds. After hundreds of games for us and putting his body on the line for so many years, some of you would now begrudge not only buying a book, but even reading it. FFS what's the matter with you?
Like I said originally, I'll be there at 10:00 on the dot......................hopefully, I'll be there with a decent crowd.

| Rugby league footballers use performance enhancing drugs, says average rugby league footballer who played for a relatively small club. I can see it sending shockwaves throughout the world.
Malcolm, if you played for City or United, you may manage to shift a few copies. However, I suspect that your book will soon be in the bargain bin at Aleefās Newsagents within a few months.
Is anyone actually surprised about the use of performance enhancing and recreational drug use by RLfootballers?

It shouldn't be. There are more rugby league players serving drug bans than players of any other sport in the U.K.

| Would seem that he may not have been too well advised - seems he may be investigated by the anti-doping agency

though what they can do so long after the (alleged) events is presumably not much?
