| I rate Latu and think he has done well for wakey over the last few seasons, but gleeson came 2/3 years ago and has not improved at all IMO.

Fully agree. Passes to ground (again) kicking game non existent clueless when in the final 20.
Stef must be pulling his hair out when he sees M.Smith out there.
Unfortunately Smith is a McRae favourite, so we will see no change whilst he is still at Salford.

| To some extent he might be a bit wasted at 7. Some of the breaks he made from full back yesterday were absolutely outstanding, expecially the one where he picked up a low kick on the run. The extra space at full back allowed him the freedom to do some of that evasive running that he is so good at, and he might not get that space at scrum half.

It does rather make you wonder if there is something that we are not aware of about Ratchford, it is plain for all to see that he is incredibly talented but not getting a look in at his favoured half back position. If it is just a case of SM not liking him you'd have thought that Simms, Alker, Hunte of even John Wilky would have said something. For me I think he'll stay and think that working along side Patten we will have a future full back of the highest possible caliber.

Was thinking the same thig myself at the game. If Stef can't get a game because of Smith then maybe he can make a fullback role with the guidance of Patten. If Patten only has 2/3 years left in him then Stef could take that time to learn this "new" role inside out.
Someone else mentioned that being at fullback gives him more room which resulted in some great runs and that extra kicking option when needed. And with Smith's kicking game being woeful again we needed it. Once he get's his positioning right I think Stef will make a fine fullback for the future.
I just hope McRae doesn't frustrate him too much and we see this immensly talented guy leave.

Simms ' mentioned in the M.O.M. speech if he'd had know of his capabilities at full back he may not have brought Patten in ( Jokingly ). Pattens 30 & Ratchford is 22 , plenty of time for him to learn from all these experienced people arriving .
Wigan are using Sam Tomkins at Full back because it gives him more space to use his attacking skills .
Matty Smith , no Darren Lockyer but he's not as bad as some people on here make him out to be .. get over it
Marc Sneyd has got more assured with the games he has played but needs to work at his speed off the ball , thought both Smith and Sneyd put great 40/20's in yesterday ,
Biggest Praise has to go to Gareth Owen, another brilliant short pass for Ray Cashmere for his try , good quick distribution , again was pinpointed by Wakefield in the defensive line but never took a backward step , took Korki on and took him down with a textbook tackle , somebody needs to get him some easy tan for those legs though.

| Funniest moment yesterday, I was sat infront of the Leulaui dynasty in the stand & they actually thought one of the ball boys was on the park when Gaz Owen came on & questioned what he was doing, said he was Malc's successor & they were gobsmacked, p###ing themselves laughing thought Kylie was gonna choke laughing, but I think they warmed to him.

Despite the fact he needs to bulk up Owen looks a real good prospect to me. For a kid to come in and make 2 try assists in 3 replacement appearances is pretty impressive. That short pass for Parker's try against Hull KR was class. I like the fact he's prepared to attack the line and draw in the defence (near the opponents try line) and then gets the ball away rather than just going through the motions of passing it too early.

Agreed. I also love the way he attacks when in defence. He's got less meat than a vegetarians toothpick on that frame of his, yet he throws the lot into every tackle. And when he doesn't succeed in bringing his opponent down at the first point of contact, he chases and sticks to their ankles like a little terrier. You know, you just can't beat enthusiasm; an attribute Owen's got in abundance.
Oh, and he looks like Brett Finch!

I can't see Gleeson being anything other than a replacement centre or wing next year but who knows? A change of club nearer to home and linking up with his mate Ratchford again may just revive his career?

| Open minded about Gleeson ,
Debuted at a very young age for Wigan with a smattering of appearances then spent the last 4 years at Wakey .
the club/ Simms obviously see something in him they like. Maybe they see him as a squad player , or a bit like Ashley Gibson where a change of club and surrounding may see him develop into a better player . Stephan told us he was ' best mates ' with Sean and go back alongway playing in junior sides together.
Willing to give him the benefit of the doubt as he's still only 22.
