B*llocks.
I sit next to people at work who earn three times as much as me. I accept that because at the moment I am not in a position to command anywhere near that money and its the same for the players.
It might even make some of them pull their fingers out and realise the club will reward hard work and effort.

Think you are living in the past there Nashy. So Briers gives Matt King a short ball because hes not on his salary? Those days are gone - if it was the case at Salford Alker wouild be taking the drives in, also acting half back and kicking the goals. Players know their values and thats why RL will never really be as `close` as it used to be.

| totally agree with nashy i 've got the same info, myler refusing to sign until he's had a full and final offer from the wires or anybody else meanwhile the wires are courting him with oasis tickets to the recent heaton park gigs where he was treated like a pop star and such like,if he goes salford will receive just under £200 000 for his services.

Well thats not mylerspeak - thats martinoffiahspeak. Greedy.
Many years ago at Swinton - they had a stand off Daz Davies - Wigan tapped him up and he finally signed - Swinton got £10k I think - then Davies broke his leg in his first match and from memory never played again. The lesson? Always take the chance to cash in the chips in professional sport as Fergie has just done with Ron.
JAW should immediately withdraw the offer if what Nashy/tyson have heard is true - we must not get into an auction - unless it benefits Salford on the final price tag of the lad.

| well done the salford board , if richie decides against staying it not for lack of trying by the board , but if he goes the club will receive a massive fee , because of his age ie younger than 22 so enforcing a transfer , in my opion no less than 500,000
the ball is in your court mr offiah

| A few points strike me here.
First I thought Myler was under contract till the end of next season but the article in the MEN indicates that it only runs till the end of this season (I know the MEN are sticklers for accuracy but maybe that is a slight mis-prUnt on thier part ).
Second as someone who was sceptical that the club would do enough to keep him I doff my metophorical cap to Mr Wilkson as it appears that he and the board are pulling out all the stops, Myler needs to look at things subjectively in as far as does he stay at a club where he will be without doubt the biggest cheese of the lot and the go-too man for years to come and become the player the entire organisation is built around for years or does he go to a serial underacheiveing team like Warrington were if he doesnt shine they will just find another brown bag full of case down the back of the sofa and bring in another aussie to userpe and ultimately replace Myler.
Third the players may not like him earning so much more is a quote I have read on here, well boo fecking hoo - if they dont like it pull their fingers out and apply themselves and maybe they can graft thier way to a bigger contract, Myler is the most prodigeous talent I have seen for many a year in the halves and he can fully justify (even at his tender age) a big contract as without doubt he is the pre eminant scrum half for England/GB for the next 12+ years.
My own personal thoughts are the he will sign a contract for 3 years and go maybe 2 years down the line for a seriously astromonical fee and that at some point in the future we will see Myler graceing the NRL as without doubt in years to come he will be that talented.

| Myler is going to leave this up to Offiah to work the best deal for him. Offiah has behaved disgracefully in all this, so why should we for one minute be confident of him signing up ?
The facts are that if Myler accepts the offer, it will make him a very wealthy young man. He'll be the big star at the club at such a young age... and a 4 year contract will give the club who gave him his chance the ability to build a team around him. Should he want to move in 4 years... he'll still only be 23... and with a bit of luck... we'll be a much better side... and just have to find a replacement 7.
Should he decide to go to Warrington... I have a feeling he won't be the number one star... but one of a few. Fact is.. Warrington now have a good coach on board and could be on the verge of being a very good side, and Myler will help them do that. It's going to be hard to compete with that and we have to be true to ourselves and understand this... as much as it pains me to say it.
Offiah thinks he's worth mega-bucks... With that he's correct... but it's about the only thing he has got right. He's clearly not acting in the best interests of the player, because at 19 he may be good but he's got lots to learn... so why not learn it while commanding a big wage with less pressure than take the risk of moving somewhere where the fans are desperate for some success due to the amount spent on the squad over the last few years.
The top and bottom of this is that Myler has played less than 6 months of SL rugby. He has given two outstanding performances for England against weak opposition... who's to say he won't be made to look a mug against the Aussies and the Kiwi's... with that he may not become the attractive proposition that Offiah thinks he is. He has a chance to get a big contract NOW... my feelings are he'd be wise to sign it... but there is something telling me that he won't because of his agent and his agents advisors.

If this does happen then it will be obvious to most supporters who has got a problem with myler when out on the pitch! Players not running for him or giving him hospital passes will stand out like a sore thumb, and will get some stick for it hopefully!

| First of all Warrington are a very arrogant club that starts with the owner, coach and carries on to most of there fans.
A three year contract is perfect for all parties, and it is good to know the club has moved heaven and earth to keep possible the biggest talent rugby league football has seen for the past ten years
When young lads start to play the game there are certain targets that you dream of
1) To play professional rugby
2) Play in the highest competition.
3) Represent your country
4) Get paid well
5) Play number 7 for Salford.
6) Win Honours.
Richie has acheived 5 of these at Salford. If it wasnt for the reds he might never of had the chance to do any of the above. This is where the Loyalty comes into it from Richies behalf. If he does sign for three more years i don't think anybody would begrudge him if he does move on after it to one of the games big clubs like Wigan,Saints or leeds.
Hopefully after he has crossed of number 6

| Why would Myler sign a long term deal, when the chances of us being in superleague post 2011 without a new stadium are rather grim?

Without question there would be a clause in the contract allowing release should the club not get a franchise.

| Part of me suspects the amount of noise coming out of Salford is little more than PR. IMHO Salford already know he is off and are trying to save face with the fans by making a song and dance about an offer they don't think he'll accept.
The club are usually fairly quiet when it comes to actual deals and only seem to comment when it's pie-in-the-sky cf. Gower, Minichello et al or when we get gazumped, cf. Higham.

| Kevin Penny was going to be the "next best player" at Warrington, & was signed up on a 4?year contract, where is he now?????? after not featuring in the 1st team he has now gone on loan to Widnes.
The same could become of Myler, ok he is having a good season, (wouldn't say great) his defence is suspect, ok , know he is only young, but he probably looks better in the Salford team, (no disrespect to the rest of the team) & against a very weak french side, so who is to say it won't all go t#ts up at Warrington.
Seen many a "great new prospect " in rugby over the years only to fade out of sight & not fulfill their potential, nothing is certain in life.

| If the offer of £250k from Wires (their board) is true then the club would be daft not to look at it seriously.
Personally I would love to keep him and build a young side around him and dispense with all our Antipodeans at the same time. Just my point of view as with a totally British side we may still get a green light at the next Franchise round as we have shown that we have accepted the RFL guidelines on that score. Yes I realise Cashmere has a contract for 3 years so obviously that is a hurdle to overcome.
However I cannot see SMc agreeing with me as his CV will of course not be enhanced should the British lads finish in a lowly position. Catch 22 isnt it?

That would be the money ball for the rest of the team, salford have been viewed for too long as a 2nd grade club, a club which if you cant make it at wigan or a top club its somewhere you can earn a living.
This had to and is begining to stop, playing rugby league for Salford City Reds should be viewed as a pinnicle of any career and its down to the individual player how he sees his role in the team and the club, keep moving forward, keep improving or you will be replaced by someone who wants it more.
Our Youth which is currently playing in our 1st team has moved our team on 10 fold imo, they have no fear, they just go out and play add to what we have with solid supperleague class professionals and who knows were we can go.
If Myler's representatives accept the offer of a new contract it should be a message to the rest of the squad, Myler is worth every penny of that contract offer, he has that xfactor, he's quick, he's brave, he's intelligent and the most important thing when the pressure is on he has the bottle to perform to the highest level.
If every other player performs to that level week in week out and doesnt slip into the "comfort zone" that some currently reside in we as a team and club would move forward and become a real force, i cant understand why anyone would be jelous? you work hard at your game and when push comes to shove he will make the difference which wins Salford the game, and when your all dancing round the spa celebrating our heroic win and your acievement the last thing your gonna do is bitch about the man who helped make it happen.
Do you want to make History? be the catalist that made it all happen (like cantona @ united) who is to say if we manage to keep the core of this team together we cant win the challenge cup or a top 3 finish in the next few years.
I just hope that Myler and his representatives would like to make it happen here at salford, be seen as a vital cog that took us for might be / could be men to Winners in a red shirt not just another cog at another club

| I think the long and short of it is that no-one will know what will happen until an official announcement is made. Forget here-say and speculation.
It goes without saying that both sets of fans want his services, but sometimes the long term future of the club needs to be considered. I can understand the question of loyalty, and I think it goes without saying that this will already be part of Myler's consideration whether or not to stay.
Even if he is sold, it will help Salford's long term financial future. If he stays, then Salford need to ensure that they have the financial muscle to pay his salary, plus the other financial commitments. This of course includes the finalising of the new stadium, securing continuing Super League status and having the ability to build a team around Myler.
At the end of the day, it will still be a win, win situation - even if initially there is some inevitable disappointment should he be sold to Warrington or any another club.
So, all we can do is sit it out and wait for that announcement to be made...
And for what it's worth, I'm a Wire fan - but have respect for all clubs and fans (except the pies of course - only kidding, hehe). It's what makes SL the best sport in the world!!
