| Quote ="red in buxton"i think what most people are trying to say on here is, that if the council are saying they will invest in transport to our new stadium, when it is up and running, that they dont believe a word of it,
when has GMC ever done any thing for SALFORD and i mean the CITY not the team, they have riped the heart out of the CITY AND THE PEOPLE who were born n brought up there, taken lots out put nothing back,
im one of the lucky ones and moved away,
BUT im still sad to see what GMC and our own so called CITY council has done to a once proud CITY.
and a congestion charge is not going to change anything apart from the pockets of GMC .'" given that it ceased to exist 22 years ago that would be kind of difficult pal

| All i can I will get in my area is a cycle track down the A6 to manchester, noway am I buying a bike to say yes i have benefited from TIF, and No it will not get me to the ground. Funny really because from the top of Moorside Road I would be able to see the ground but could only get there in a very round about way.

| Getting back on topic: lessons to learn from Juventus. In 1990. the ‘Old Lady’ moved into the Stadio Delle Alpi — a brand spanking new 70,000 capacity stadium built for Italia ’90. The supporters hated it. Why? Because:
Quote ="BBC"Fans labelled the ground ‘soulless’, blaming its location, on the outskirts of the city, and poor visibility of the pitch from some parts of the ground.'"
As a result, average crowds of 50,000 in 1991 dwindled:
Quote ="BBC"Despite Juventus winning Italy’s Serie A title in both 2005 and 2006, attendances often failed to reach 30,000.'"
In 2006, Juventus (and Torino) put the abandoned sign up and moved to the 27,500 seater Stadio Olimpico (not the one in Rome, obviously), a newish facility built on the site of their old ground, the Stadio Comunale. Juventus have played there ever since. But the fans still aren’t happy:
Quote ="BBC"The Stadio Olimpico is also considered a disappointment, sporting a scaled-back capacity with which both squatters Juve and permanent residents Torino are said to be unhappy.'"
So [url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/7740470.stmJuve are building their own ground[/url — costing £90m — on the site of the Stadio Delle Alpi: a 40,000 seater, [isans [/irunning track and therefore tighter to the pitch.
Quote ="BBC"The Juventus president hailed the plans as "a source of great pride". Giovanni Cobolli Gigli said: ‘Juventus is the first club in Italy to have a stadium all its own.’ Fans at the new stadium will sit so close to the action and will be able "to hear players' voices". '"
Lesson: If you’re building a new stadium on the outskirts of the city, make sure the fans warm to it. Otherwise, even championships won’t pack them in.

| from one clip I saw it was all about how with no immediate relegation we are now able to build for the future with regards to British youngsters
There was a mention of [an intention of moving to a new stadium in 2010 but it was by the reporter, not Dave Tarry.

Hence trying to remove Leuilai and Stapleton from the quota because of their 'long histories' with the club, enabling you to signe 2 more overseas players (taken from MEN)

| Only saying what was said in the short clip on Sky Sports News.
I now realise we are the only club to have ever tried to take advantage of a loophole or twist to our own benefit a rule in RL and how foolish we look for doing so.
Never happens elsewhere in the game does it?
Boy is the egg on our face!

A FEW BITS TAKEN FROM THIS MORNINGS M.E.N.
SALFORD CITY REDS took major step forward in the clubs plan to relocate to the new stadium at Barton by 2010
Administrators Berbies Traynor have given the green light for the land to be placed back in Salford's control after the conclusion of the voluntary administration process of Red City Developments.
Control of the development land has now been officially passed to Peel Holdings, the club's previous developer partner, and they will now finalise the project in readiness for building work to start early in 2009.
The new stadium at Barton should if all goes to plan be ready for the 2010 season.
Quote from Peel Holdings
Peel Holding's property director Mr Mike Butterworth said:
"WE LOOK FORWARD TO AND ARE COMMITTED TO DELIVERING THE QUALITY STADIUM THAT THE CITY,THE SALFORD CLUB AND THE SUPPORTERS DESERVE".
"While it's been a long drawn-out process for all concrned we are now finally in a postion to move forward and create a deliverable vision that will meet and exceed the expectations of all parties,"

---------------------------------------------------------------------
There is exciting news on the Reds’ new stadium project as the green light has now been given by the administrators Begbies Traynor for the land to be placed back in the club’s control after the conclusion of the voluntary administration process of Red City Developments.
With the position regarding Red City now finalised, control of the development land has now passed to Peel Holdings - the club’s preferred developer partner who will now proceed to finalise the project in readiness for work on the stadium to commence. The new revised scheme and plans for the City’s showpiece circa £30m stadium will be announced as early as possible in the New Year.
The Reds are due to move into their new home in 2010 and with the might of Peel Holdings and the City of Salford now firmly behind them are keen to stress that the development is very much alive, despite several hold-ups and the current credit crunch.
Reds’ Chairman John Wilkinson said, “This is great news for the club and its fans and means we can now continue with our exciting plans. The Club, The City and Peel Holdings have stated that our new home will be among the best in the country, and we will not falter in any way to compromise on that quality simply to speed things up.
We are grateful to our developer partners Peel Holdings who have certainly gone the extra mile to deliver the land bank back into the development. Peel has shown a great commitment and energy to the development and we are indebted to them for their help during this crucial period.
We are in hard times and while we acknowledge that the development is certainly taking a great deal of time and effort to finalise, it will get off the ground albeit later than we would have liked.
Peel Holdings are now tasked with delivering the stadium as our preferred developer, and both the Club and the City of Salford are excited by the prospect having seen their commitment, energy and ability at first hand.
Peel Holdings are among the premier developers in the country and we are working very closely with them, having received commitment from them at the highest possible level.
I do understand the frustrations of our loyal fans who are suffering through this with us but they must be patient a little while longer and continue to trust us to do the right thing - we will deliver.”
Peel Holdings Property Director Mike Butterworth said, “This development is now in the safe hands of Peel Holdings, we look forward to and are committed to delivering the quality stadium that the City, the Club and their supporters deserve.
Whilst it has been a long drawn out process for all concerned, we are now finally in a position to move forward and create a deliverable vision that will meet and exceed the expectations of all parties.”
Salford City Reds urged their fans to snap up their 2009 Season Ticket before the Christmas Eve deadline to claim their free team shirt and book their place in what is set to be a historic season at The Willows.
Reds CEO, David Tarry added: “Today’s news will be a great boost for our supporters who have waited long and patiently for this project to begin in earnest.
With Peel controlling the development I feel that we are now in a position to make things happen, and all of this at a time of global economic turmoil. Peel’s continued support for such a significant landmark development even during such difficult times for the construction industry confirms their genuine commitment to the delivery of this project on time“.
