| DI: We have no excuse, we know we don't have good support or a particularly good proactive board but some want to fight to change this? we have a fighting chance with a new stadium & I for one want to get behind the club.
I have respected your right to your views but your becoming a little boring, how many times do you want to say the same thing.

| The whole thing was a joke from start to finish, even before a ball was kicked it was an embarrassment all the fireworks and wires left around the pitch and in the in goal area, one of the cas players picking up a large piece of cardboard from under the snow was the highlight of this charade, all live on sky as well typical Salford.

| Quote shedite="shedite"Many thanks! To sum up, it's not me telling everyone we need to move grounds and then it will magically turn round overnight and 10000 will turn up.....!!!'"
They did on the first night in Wrexham, when the weather was about as bad, although I suppose there was curiosity value.
There are positives though, because you have now have the product, rugby league, plus the facilities, and so you can begin to spread the word. If you had attracted all the curious last night, they would have sat through a poor game wrecked by conditions and been absolutely freezing. They would have gone home saying "never again". At least you can build support and attract them when it will be a more pleasant experience, and then get them hooked.

| It seems I was right last week predicting the surfacing of plenty of limping gimps procrastinating on the end of the world after the Castleford game. I suppose it comes as no surprise.
As for the game, not much point in reading anything into it. The terrible conditions conspired to steer the game down into an arm wrestle for position and dominated by plays around the ruck. We were always going to struggle due to the lack of quality forwards to compete in a forward battle. Add to this the nerves and pressure of trying to deliver on the first game of the season it's not hard to see why the result went the way it did. Cas were better equipped to deal with things and took their chances.
Anyone who thinks that one game is indicative of all future performances needs to have a serious re-think about their grip on reality.
The crowd wasn't good but I'm sure the conditions played a large part in it as well as Sky televising it. The 'Big' build-up seemed to be an anti-climax and I'm sure the Stadium Company/Club should have a big sit down and reassess what is good and what is cringe-worthy.

| for one I wouldn't pay the company responsible for the "fireworks" some of the ones at the south stand didn't go off and others seemed to have a mind of their own stopping and starting at will no real correlation to the other fireworks on the wire.
so first night nerves over, now its onto St Helens, can we spoil their party?

| You'd have thought that one look at the weather would have brought about a re think on plans. The fair was always going to be dead in that weather (though come summer I'm sure that would be a winner) and I'm pretty sure that laying cables to fireworks in snow as always going to effect them.

| I know how you feel: all those who watched it in warm pubs or cozy rooms: our board's fault for not attracting them. Those who braved the elements to go to City: our board's fault for not convincing them of Salford's pre-eminant rights to fans. Those shoppers at the Centre are all rugby league fans turning their noses up at Salford: the board's fault.
Look we have issues but, as I stated before, this is the board we HAVE, the team we HAVE, the stadium we HAVE. You have a right to moan but this is what we have got. Either put up, improve it by finding solutions, or shut up.

| What I found most galling last night, was not the abject performance, or lack of atmosphere or the hour stuck in traffic before the game, but was seeing all those good for nothing councillors with their free tickets and free meals, DID anyone notice apart from me the corporate seats where mostly empty five min into the second half? Give Councillor Merry his due he was there at the start of the second half be he did leave 10 mins before time, must have been trying to beat the traffic!!

| So Gruffy if you are a councillor you are good for nothing, very strange line of thought, have you thought about what a councillor actually does, or who was to blame for the seat you were sat in?
Or who runs the city? can't be the councillors because they are good for nothing, must be the fairies with a little help from Santa in December.

| Last season was too much for me, it brought to a head everything that's wrong with Salford. No investment, no direction and managed by a set of amateurs.
I have maintained a respectful silence during the pre-season and read with interest all the posts on this forum.
I watched the game on T.V. last night. I thought it was typical Salford, ineffective forwards laying a non-existant platform for the halves and backline. Is this the kind of fare that will bring lapsed supporters back? Will last nights viewing attract new supporters?
It seems that some of our fans were abusing the players, well don't be too hard on them, because the next step is for them to stop going as well. A crowd of 5k last night...........and it wasn't all down to the weather! Unfortunately, JW and the Board will no doubt have their excuses already lined up.
As for the Team........Patten still has no idea how to tackle or defend whilst his mate Holdsworth is going from bad to worse.
Smith has a bit of class and works hard, but has little protection and a dud partner.
The Centres and Wings have great potential, but without halves and forwards it's asking too much of them to turn games. (Borne out last night by the try of the match in the context of another defeat).
Feka is the only forward with any go forward or presence, but thought Gledhill showed some promise as did Howarth.
As for the rest, they took the ball standing still and were consistently driven backwards. It's no good completing sets if we aren't capable of making any yardage.
I'm sorry guys, but the writing is on the wall. In three years time we'll be out of Superleague and consigned to history.
