I wasn't aware of that.

Simms has been linked with a return to Leigh.

| Feel a bit sorry for him really, he's had to put up with a lot during his time here, beginning with McRae, then Parrish, and then all our financial problems. His position was always going to come under scruting with the new management though, and I think it was inevitable that he'd end up being sacked - didn't think it'd be this soon though.
I think we must already have somebody lined up, I don't think he'd have been sacked if we hadn't.

Well he does have the best win ratio than any Salford coach is our 134 year history.

| I'd put money on a coach all ready to step in. When we got took over it was clear that the management wanted a complete fresh slate, and I'm thinking that it was only a matter of results before PV went.
A shame, as he's been particularly unlucky in his tenure as a first grade Coach. Sure he'll bounce back, coaching game is a ruthless affair in any sport.

| Ed Farrish has pretty much just confirmed on Radio Manchester that it will be an Aussie & Tim Sheens is on the list. Longy stays as assistant along with Highto, Hunte in charge for now.

So that rules out a kiwi coach then. Brian Smith maybe?

| Quote ="Barton Flyer"We become more like Chelsea - now we also have an "interim coach"'"
This. On another thread somewhere I hinted that I was a tiny bit concerned about the way things are heading. I had the C-word in my head but didn't want to use it, but now it's out there, I will.
I'm concerned that this rush to immediate success will lead to us becoming like Chelsea, where the manager's name is written on his office door on a Post-It note. Alex Ferguson ("The Greatest Managorrrr Evorrrrr"[size=50(TM)[/size) spent years throwing money at the United team before he eventually lucked in to getting it right. He was, at one point I remember, on the verge of getting the elbow, but the club stuck with him. This continuity has led to years of sustained trophy acquisition, and now he can go out each year and spend less than the teams trying to catch up, and United fans can convince themselves that they haven't bought success. Chelsea have gone down the "overspend, have one or two successful years then struggle, then have a revolving door manager policy" route, and it isn't working. I fear the Chelsea syndrome at Salford.
OK. Shoot me. I can take it.

Slight misquote from Ledge, he just said it would be from down under so could still be a kiwi.

Perhaps, but it doesn't seem to be going too well for them at the moment. By being more patient, Manchester United have built the more sustainable trophy purchase scheme.

| Quoting Man U as a model that another sport should follow is pushing it. What's happened at Man U with Fergie is pretty much unique the world over. It's all very well putting them on a pedestal as a paragon of how things should be done, but even in football it's an exception and not the norm. There's no guidebook for how to make a Club successful in sport.

| Does anyone think the decision was influenced by the failure to attract targeted players? Perhaps the club feel a big name coach will help their ambitious recruitment drive.

I think that's bang on - undoubtedly PV was doing a pretty good job with the resources available to him, BUT we all know those resources are going to change dramatically in the near future and if I were the owner doing that, then I reckon I'd want some proven ability to give the best chance of success.
Hopefully PV will continue in the game, gain experience and prove his worth and reappear as a head coach in the future.
