That may have been a record for your club, But it wont be for the league.
The rumour has it Warrington have already made a deal for Daryl Clark that makes 100k look very small (Albeit its been said he will remain with us next year, I personally think thats part of a deal with them to give Higham another year, Let Clark develop), Westerman was sold for over 100k and there are many other examples.
I think the minimum our board will accept will be 250k, But as I say. I worry that this will be enough also.

| Detoriman - you are as deluded as Red League. Please understand the money for the fee goes INTO the game and not into the pockets of the players. The transfer market is DEAD. Deceased. No more. Its manna from heaven for Cas like it was for us when Myler went to Warrington & Smith to Wigan. He can come for nothing when his contract is up.

Yes, but as has been pointed out, the money Rangi generates for the club through attendances and sponsorship means over the next two years could be in excess of the transfer fee offered. In which case, it makes sense to keep him and let him leave for nothing in 2 years! Meanwhile, we can spend time trying to persuade him to sign an extended deal.

| The Cas board are in a real tough situation. They need to get Chases wages of their wage bill but they also need to keep their loyal fans happy. Its very difficult for any sporting organisation to keep a player who for whatever reason no longer wants to be there. In Chases case its probably because of the wages he will earn at Salford.I have no doubt he loves Cas and would, given the same sort of wages, would opt to stay at Cas.Everyone knows how short a career RL can be so obviously Chase has to maximise his earnings now.
For the Cas board to keep their fans happy or at least accept the situation as inevitable then they have to really negotiate an amazing financial deal for their club and who can blame them for doing that.
I would be amazed if the final deal wasnt over or around the 250K mark.Thats making the presumption the deal even happens.Anything less than that would not go down well with the Cas fans and in all honesty i wouldnt blame them at all.

| £200k to £250k but I could see Cas accepting £200000 as that's with chase's wages around £380000 they would save and have to play with next year.
Early Bath, Koukash isn't John Wilkinson (not a tight ar$e) he has a lot of resources, and he knows Chase would be a big crowd puller for Salford too, i know we offered 100k for a forward who isn't even at the top of the rankings in the game. Chase is block buster and is easily worth double Elliot whitehead. He's starting at £60k to
Stop stupid over the top offers being layed down early on.

Fair point Nottingham. As for Salford I really feel the transfer fee limit should be about £100k. Just think that a `Golden Hello`of £150k for the likes of a Greg Inglis would be far better business.

Firstly, Cas don't need to get Chase's wages off the wage bill. He is our only 'big' earner (other then Shenton but even he isn't near the salary that Chase is on).
Secondly, Chase may be offered a contract by Salford that is lower than his current one at Cas! Cas can afford to pay Chase a massive salary and stay under the salary cap because we have no other big earners! If Koukash intends to bring in a team of high-quality players (which I believe he does) then he cannot spunk such as massive wage on one player as you'll end up with poor players in other areas (or a squad of 10 players!)
As much as I think Rangi is a great player, he is not worth compromising the possibility of building an all-round team.

| I wonder who Cas' bankers are, whether Cas have an overdraft and how their bankers view the prospect of a significant reduction in that overdraft (if indeed they have one - any accountants on here seen the last published figures?)
To me, if I were negotiating then the crucial point is that Cas own a depreciating asset. Yes, Rangi Chase is good, undeniable, is he the single factor that will turn Salford's fortunes around? I don't think so, he's another pawn on the board, will it be a disaster if we don't sign him? No, of course not.
So I'd say the ball is firmly in Cas' court - somewhere there's a deal, I wonder if the parties will find out just where?

There is no way Chase will move for less money than he earns now.Lets get realistic.
Salford have a lot of young academy players who have been making their way into the first team this year.Their wage bill when around 10 players are released at the end of the season will leave them with a lot of cap to play with.
As has been said in another thread,Morley will be on peanuts next year but the following year will be earning a fortune in his ambassador/coach role.
Always makes me laugh when people start throwing these comments around about how will we fit all these players in and keep under the cap.Maybe you should go on the Wigan,Warrington,Hull FC,Saints,Leeds and Huddersfield Forums and ask them how they do it with their star packed squads. They obviously have a lot more experience in that department then we do.

You say 100k I say 200k lets see what happens ay? But if the Doc isn't willing to shed out 200k on a player like Chase then in fail to see see how he thinks were going to challenge the like of Wigan or Warrington who are proven big money spenders.

But they don't have anyone on the same money as Chase either (apart from Tomkins but as he plays for Wigan some of his wage is not counted!).
I'm not saying it won't happen, but that there are lots of issues and barriers to be overcome.

That famous I've never heard of him.
On the subject at hand I'd suspect deep down the Cas board want to make the most they can from a very valuable asset while they are able. They can keep hom on the books for a further two years and watch him walk into most NRL teams scott free and they make nothing. I seriously think there is lots of sable rattling for the benefit of the fans (quite rightly I might add) when the Cas board knows that the Doc will go in with another offer and then another until it gets too much for them to say no too.
i still also say that I'd think there is offers of players + cash that would help both teams out.

Put your banker hat back on and look at this:
If you know that the person with the overdraft has an asset that is making money and is making it easier for them to meet their obligations then surely you'll want that club to retain that asset as long as possible to generate as much as possible.
The figure of £60k (if true) is scandalous and I'd tell Koukash to stick it and come back when he's willing to multiply it at least another 4 times minimum. We sold Westerman for £175k and Chase is a much more significant player.
Cas know that Salford claim to have the dosh so they can keep holding out. If the good Doc wants to go elsewhere then ta-ra. However, if he really wants Rangi it's time to put up and shut up. He went for Dobson first so I wonder if he may try his look on someone else first like Tim Smith or Danny Brough.
We have absolutely no reason to sell and our commercial staff are doing a grand job now to raise our income and we're on the way to making ourselves self-sufficient. People saying £100k are having delusions of grandeur. That would be peanuts for a player of his calibre and there's no reason Cas would sell.
