| I think with someone like Koukash in charge now whatever we spent on SBW would be more than recouped in media exposure, advertising, bums on seats and merchandising.
A for instance was talking to a lad I work with who has no interest in either code of rugby but he specifically mentioned SBW based on the MEN report and said that he'd come and watch as he knows what a brilliant player SBW and in his words a 'supreme athlete'.
I very much doubt anything other a polite refusal from SBW will come out of this but the Doc in this case is now getting his name known in the NRL. I'd love to see the type of money being talked about used on Fisiiahi, Sam Rapira and if it can stretch Josh Mantellato (fringe player and amazing kicker with bags of pace).

| I’m sure Koukash is canny enough to know that the way to get SBW in the team is to have him paid at least part of his salary by a third party that is unconnected with the club. That would avoid being caught by the Cap auditors.
I’m sure this already happens at other clubs where the owner has a network of wealthy connections.

| Sponsorship via his boxing career is the easy way around all of the money concerns.
Of the big names that have been bandied about I have to say this is the most plausible - especially given we are talking about a one year contract which would suit the purposes of both Salford and SBW. Imagine the kickstart a name like SBW could give to the club.

| A SBW fight @ Barton is a good shout too, might give the Doc some bargaining chips with the SMC/Peel when looking to buy his stake in the club.

| I'm sure a fight against David Price, Derek Chisora and/or Audley Harrison would generate some reasonable interest, particularly if it was on the undercard to a half decent main event. I am sure Salford's Jamie Moore who is now trainer to Hull's promising young up and coming Tommy Coyle would relish a spot on the undercard too. I can just picture it now, the "Brawl in Barton" going down in history alongside the "Thriller in Manilla" or the "Rumble in The Jungle".

Agree 100% fella.
Just a reminder folks that when interviewed by Brad "Freddie" Fittler Brad asked are you going to commit to the Roosters I'm a Rooster, wouldn't you like to leave a legacy here ? Sonny replied by saying I only do what makes me happy if I'm here for longer then so be it if not I'll move on and do something else. (or words to that effect the interview is played regulary on premier sports).
As for the salary cap I've spent the last god knows how many years wondering how the likes of Wigan/Leeds/Saints/Wire have kept a cast of all stars under the salary cap whilst we have had 30 years of dross, they somehow manage it even if one or two of them have been found out, To be honest if my dreams start to be fulfilled I couldn't give two hoots how we join the club....

| SBW has turned Roosters from mid table also rans to NRL title contenders.
so we 'tongue firmly in cheek here '
Chase - SBW & the Old guard with our U20's would do OK ...
Also it doesn't stop squad building for 2015 with a 1 yr deal
SBW, Ashurst , Morley, Meli , Emitt, McGoldrick. Williams ,
could be off the players wage bill. so it doesn't stop Marwan shopping and a precedent set that anyone is a acheivable target.

You'd hope that McGoldrick is gone at the end of the season, from what I was told he's also our highest earner and he's just not the right quality.

| He IS our highest earner, unjustifiably too. His salary isn’t all that worrying, for one season I could have accepted it but we gave him a two-year deal. Stupid. I’d be looking to use him as part of the Rangi deal, not Sneyd. As far as I know he still lives in Cas too.

Meh, I wouldn't say that. SBW hasn't played the last two matches and the Roosters have barely been worried. I attended both games btw. Boyd Cordner, Michael Jennings, Tupou, Pearce and Maloney have been excellent.

Gav , you have the advantage, lucky you , got any of the Dr's contracts in your back pocket ..
mind you they only had to beat Canberra & Penrith
I should have said , the signing of SBW has made the chooks into title contesters
last season 13th, this season running joint top with Souths, and their major signing was Williams.
previous poster said they have made 5 GF appearances in the last decade but their last win was 2002 with Morley in the line up.
From the Premier games I've seen Maloney is their pivot with Pearce , but the addition of SBW has lifted the club & given the other players belief, more so than say Jennings , their other big money signing .

So would you say souths Resurgance was the signing of George Burgess or the Signing of Coach Michael Maguire.
to not credit Trent Robinson is just too much of a Sonny Bill love in.
It will be interesting to see when Salford appear in three out of the next 10 grand finals if you'll still describe your team as mid table also rans...

I'll take that!..I like the [iwhen[/i , not if but happy with being labelled mid table , rather than the weakest link.
in 17 finals there's only been 4 winners:- Saints-Bradford-Wigan& Leeds, with only Hull & Warrington being the other teams involved in finals. Hoping Huddersfield can add to that list list this season

On Souths resurgence = Holmes aCourt's & Crowe's Cash & 5 years of recruitment , Maguire's the icing .
Having a monopoly on Burgess's helps

Brian - Ive asked you before but you failed to answer re our esteemed Chairman
a) Who has paid the wages of our players, staff, rent etc this season?
b) Who has offered the contracts we have seen for Morley, Meli, Sau etc?
c) The Chairman has about 50 Horses in Training @ £2k per month plus the Capital cost of each new horse. So since he has joined the club that bill alone is about £1 million. Pray tell me who has paid that? Trainers terms are net monthly and there are no writs or Trainers not offering to train for MK.
I am aware you feel the good Doctor is a man of straw so unless you can back up your comments with hard facts then we (Salford fans) shall continue to enjoy the situation which he has created at Barton.

I was a little doubtful that Koukash had pots of money to start with, but he appears to have put some money into Salford. he's already lashed some up the wall as well if he's had to pay Farish and vievers off.
And While to be fair signing off contract over 30's players like Morley Puletua and Meli is not beyond the means of Any superleague side spending to the Salary cap, It would appear that Rangi chase is Salford bound for not a small sum. so I'll reserve judgment on him for a while longer. Though you do seem to be sticking by your "no Cash" handle for longer than i expected.
